To get the "official" explicit start you have to have finished Ashen Maw and you need to be capable of going to the end game area. This means having either completed one of the faction quest lines or having independently prepped your ship out to survive the journey. To prep your boat you need to gather certain materials. I don't know how much info you want on this given this is the no spoilers forum, but once you have the necessary materials you will get a ship encounter at sea with an NPC who will explicitly recruit you to begin the Forgotten Sanctum questline. If you don't want to wait for this explicit recruitment, the alternate method of starting is that once you are an appropriate level, a tsunami event will be triggered and it will be mentioned that the tsunami came from the SE. You then can manually go to the island that has the Forgotten Sanctum and enter it that way and meet the aforementioned NPC who will give you the quest. That NPC is on the second level down of the dungeon on the island. Edited April 22, 2020 by Ontarah Do I need to visit Ashen Maw first (world in danger, factions rushing to Ukaizo but let's go on side adventure) or can it be any time? level 1 You need to complete Magran's Teeth/He Waits in Fire, then sail your ship. level 2 I've done that. I got an earthquake event, and a Try The Critter Cleaver note, but nothing else. There's no quest or anything, so I'm kinda puzzled where to go. level 2 Wasn't that final main quest? level 1 I wasn't able to trigger the second event at sea (the one with the dragon), but was able to start the DLC by going to the Black Isles and taking the stairs. level 2 There's a second event? I think I did the same thing as you, got the first event, and then took the stairs. Ive done everything there is to do in order to start the earthquake events, so far Ive only gotten one and still waiting for the second eathquake event. If this event does not pop up have I just wasted money? Originally posted by 👌m8: It wasn't explained well, but the DLC only starts once your main quest states that you should go to Ondra's Mortar for the final act. However, there's an alternative where you could start the DLC during Act 3 without (spoiler, unless you've already finished the game once) siding with the faction that will support you. Here's how: You need two items which are Blackwood Hull and Dragonwing Sails. Blackwood Hull is a craft-able hull where its recipes are scattered all over the Deadfire. Be guided by this link for the locations. The Dragonwing Sails are purchasable in the Splintered Reef island shop - the shop where you buy shipping equipments and supplies. edit: Acquiring these two will make the game assume that (endgame spoilers, again) you are a strong independent Watcher who needs no faction to support you because of your sturdy hull and sails, but you could still join a faction nonetheless. Does Pillars of Eternity have DLC?It serves as a promotional pack for the game's sequel, Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire, and is bundled with the Definitive Edition of the game. The Deadfire Pack is the only DLC not included in the console Complete Edition release.
