How fast is a Porsche Panamera Turbo S E

Dec 14, 2020 at 11:50am ET

It has been such a turbulent year that you might have forgotten that a mildly refreshed 2021 Porsche Panamera debuted in August. The folks at AutoTopNL have gotten ahold of the updated Panamera Turbo S and unleashed the sedan on the autobahn.

There's lots of traffic on the autobahn in this video, so the driver has to be patient for things to lighten up before uncorking the Porsche. Eventually, there's a clear path, and the accelerator goes to the floor. The Turbo S hits 186 miles per hour (300 kilometers per hour) effortlessly and keeps going. The speedometer even briefly ticks over to 318 kph, which is 198 mph, and is faster than the model's factory-backed top speed of 196 mph (315 kph).

In the tweaked Panamera lineup, the Turbo S replaces the regular Turbo. The twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 offers 620 horsepower (462 kilowatts) and 604 pound-feet (820 Newton-meters) of torque. Porsche claims the updated model can hit 60 miles per hour (96 kilometers per hour) in 2.9 seconds.

More Details On The 2021 Panamera:

Mechanically, a retuned sport exhaust has a more pronounced sound. Tweaks to the steering setup are supposed to make the sedan more nimble, and there are revised settings for the adaptive dampers. The Turbo S comes standard with ceramic-composite brakes.

The Panamera refresh also tweaks the exterior to have a slightly different lower fascia at the front and a full-width LED light strip at the back. Inside of the Turbo S, there's a new steering wheel with leather-wrapped shift paddles.

In the US, the 2021 Panamera goes on sale in Spring 2021. American pricing isn't yet available.

Back to beginning

How fast is a Porsche Panamera Turbo S E

Can a vision be logical? Is it even allowed to be? Probably not. We believe that the more visionary an idea at the start, the more exciting it is at the end. Then it's worth fighting for. That was the case with the

Panamera

. A sports car for four? With impressive performance and great comfort?

With the dynamism typical of

Porsche

and simultaneously more efficient? Many said it was impossible. Others called it brave.

The design.

We asked ourselves one question early on: should a sporty sedan really look like a sedan? The Panamera answers this question once more with an unequivocal no. Three times.

Bodywork.

Panamera.

Whether

Panamera

,

PanameraExecutive

or

Panamera

Sport

Turismo

– the silhouette and proportions are unmistakably

Porsche

. Athletic, streamlined, with clear contours and powerful muscles.

The long wheelbase, shorter overhang at the front and longer overhang at the rear already lend visual dynamism. The prominent sculpting of the side profile creates the customary

Porsche

waistline and sense of lightness.

PanameraExecutive.

The

PanameraExecutive

models combine sporty driving and comfortable working in the rear. The body has been lengthened by 15cm, which benefits the rear passengers in particular.

Silver-coloured elements above the side skirts are visual features of the

Executive

models. The air outlet trims in the front wings are in Silver colour (high-gloss).

Panamera Sport Turismo.

The fact that four people can appreciate a sporty yet comfortable drive in the

Panamera

is already old news in the automotive luxury class. In the Sport

Turismo

, with the standard 4+1 seat concept, a fifth person can enjoy the

Panamera

driving experience. Although not designed as a full-size individual seat, the extra space does provide a neat solution for carrying an additional passenger on short to medium distance trips.

The fact that stylish design and everyday practicality are not mutually exclusive is demonstrated by the large tailgate and the low loading edge, which makes it easier to integrate more than just everyday things into the

Panamera

Sport

Turismo

. Thanks, above all, to – for a sports car – an extraordinary capacity of up to 1,356 litres.

Highlights.

New generation of tyres.

The newly tuned chassis and a new 20 and 21-inch tyre generation perceptibly intensify the driving experience.

Assistance systems.

A variety of assistance systems make it safer and more relaxing. And Porsche Connect links all Panamera models to the digital possibilities of today – and tomorrow.

Head-up Display.

The Head-Up Display projects all relevant vehicle information directly in your field of vision, while Lane Change Assist warns you of objects in the blind spot. The Lane Keeping Assist is fitted as standard in the Panamera and supports you during longer journeys.

Design.

With the Panamera, we consistently went our own way, always stayed true to our roots – and have thus injected the typical Porsche DNA into the luxury sedan segment. With the Panamera, we are now pursuing this path just as consistently.

Interior.

Typical of Porsche: the sophisticated sports car ergonomics with ascending centre console, flat dashboard and the analogue rev counter in the centre of the instrument cluster. The new steering wheel generation, in conjunction with the Porsche Advanced Cockpit control concept, offers quick access to the most important functions.

Performance.

Whether you’re behind the wheel or occupying a passenger seat in the front or rear: in a Porsche, every drive should feel like sport, not transport. With comfort, not cosy cuddles.

How fast is a Porsche Panamera Turbo S E

The chassis.

How fast is a Porsche Panamera Turbo S E

The chassis of the Panamera models performs this balancing act between sport and comfort effortlessly – even more impressively than before. This is because the chassis systems have been completely redesigned and, together with the even more precisely adjusted steering and the new generation of tyres, now offer more of both. More performance, but above all more comfort – especially on more demanding tracks. Upgraded, partly optional chassis technologies further enhance the driving characteristics. For example, the adaptive air suspension with three-chamber technology, Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control Sport (PDCC Sport) and rear-axle steering. The integrated Porsche 4D Chassis Control system, which centrally analyses the driving situation in all three spatial dimensions, e.g. pitch, roll and yaw, calculates optimum driving states from these data and synchronises all chassis systems in real time: the fourth dimension. The objective is to optimise overall performance, and to make the middle ground between sporty driving and comfort as expansive as possible.

The rear-axle steering.

How fast is a Porsche Panamera Turbo S E

The optional rear-axle steering (standard in the PanameraTurbo S and Turbo S E-Hybrid models) increases both performance and suitability for everyday use. At low speeds, the system steers the rear wheels in the opposite direction to that of the front wheels. This leads to a virtual shortening of the wheelbase. The turning circle is reduced, agility is increased and parking becomes noticeably easier to manage.

How fast is a Porsche Panamera Turbo S E

At high speeds, the system steers the rear wheels in the same direction as that of the front wheels. This virtual extension of the wheelbase increases driving stability. Rear-axle steering makes it clear that there is no contradiction between stability and agility or performance and suitability for everyday use. The result: greater manoeuvrability and driving safety in everyday use – and a significant increase in maximum driving performance.

How fast is a Porsche Panamera Turbo S E

The brakes.

How fast is a Porsche Panamera Turbo S E

For over 70 years, we’ve been working on being faster. Even when it comes to slowing down. That's why all models – with the exception of the PanameraTurbo S and Turbo S E-Hybrid models – are equipped with a brake system with six-piston Aluminium monobloc fixed brake calipers at the front and four-piston Aluminium monobloc fixed brake calipers at the rear. The single-piece brake calipers are enclosed. This makes them lighter yet highly resistant to deformation. The pedal travel is tight, the pressure point precise and the braking distance impressively short.

The

Porsche

Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB).

How fast is a Porsche Panamera Turbo S E

Proven in motorsport and installed as standard on the Panamera Turbo S and Turbo S E-Hybrid models, the Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB) is available as an option. The PCCB perforated Ceramic brake discs have a diameter of 420mm at the front or up to 410mm at the rear depending on the model for even greater braking performance.

The Sport Chrono Package including mode switch.

Adrenaline at the push of a button: the Sport Chrono Package offers an even sportier tuning of the chassis, engine and transmission.

With the mode switch on the steering wheel with Sport Response button, you can choose between four driving modes: 'Normal', 'Sport', 'Sport Plus' and 'Individual' – for an even more personalised driving style.

In Sport mode alone, the

Panamera

delivers increased dynamics and more direct handling. While in Sport Plus mode, the engine becomes even more responsive. The rev limiter is adjusted to a harder setting.

Porsche

Active Suspension Management (PASM) and

Porsche

Dynamic Chassis Control Sport (PDCC Sport) are retuned for harder damping and more direct turn-in. The adaptive air suspension drops to Low Level (not available on GTS models) and firms the spring rate. The rear-axle steering acts to provide even greater agility. Another function included in the package is Launch Control – for optimum acceleration from a standing start.

How fast is a Porsche Panamera Turbo S E

How fast is a Porsche Panamera Turbo S E

Sport Response.

Pressing the button in the centre of the mode switch primes the engine and transmission for the fastest possible unleashing of power (e.g. for overtaking). In other words, maximum responsiveness – for a period of approximately 20 seconds.

Comfort.

In the driver’s seat, everything is focused on you and your next destination. And how you can get there as sportily as possible. Meanwhile, relaxed serenity reigns in the rear. Thanks to the generous space for family, friends or colleagues. And behind? A large luggage compartment under the wide opening tailgate. Folding rear seat backrests allow larger objects to be transported too. That may not be typical of a sports car, but it is typical of the Panamera.

How fast is a Porsche Panamera Turbo S E

The front seats.

The front seats offer a high level of comfort and provide support in fast corners without restricting freedom of movement. The seat height, squab and backrest angles and fore/aft position are electrically adjustable.

The comfort seats (14-way, electric) offer additional squab length adjustment and four-way lumbar support for driver and front passenger. The memory function stores settings for seats, steering column, both exterior mirrors and other personalised in-car settings.

The Adaptive sports seats (18-way, electric) offer even better lateral support – thanks to raised side bolsters on the squab and backrest. Electrically adjustable, they offer comfort on long journeys and made-to-measure lateral support in corners.

How fast is a Porsche Panamera Turbo S E

The rear seats.

Their main feature: there are two single ones. With plenty of leg and headroom and excellent lateral support during dynamic cornering without sacrificing comfort. On request, comfort seats with electric backrest adjustment, squab length adjustment and lumbar support are also available for the rear seat. Depending on the equipment, the front passenger seat can also be adjusted from the rear.

In conjunction with the Adaptive sports seats in front, the rear seats are also designed as sports seats – with raised side bolsters.

Standard for the Sport

Turismo

models, optional for the other

Panamera

models: the 4+1 seating concept. In the rear, the system comprises two full-size individual seats outside left and right and one centre seat in place of the storage compartment.

How fast is a Porsche Panamera Turbo S E

The luggage compartment.

The luggage compartment of the

Panamera

and

PanameraExecutive

models offers you a volume of up to 467 litres depending on the model (

E-Hybrid

models up to 403 litres) and up to 487 litres in the

Panamera

Sport

Turismo

models.

The large, automatic tailgate with individually adjustable opening height is standard in all models. It opens and closes conveniently at the push of a button.

How fast is a Porsche Panamera Turbo S E

PanameraExecutive

models.

At the rear, the

PanameraExecutive

models are equipped as standard with electric comfort seats including seat heating and comfort headrests with contoured side bolsters.

A large rear centre console is optionally available for the

Executive

models, which offers additional storage space as well as a further smartphone compartment, additional USB interfaces and a 12V and 230V socket.

In conjunction with the large centre console, folding tables for the rear are available on request. When folded, they are concealed in the large centre console. They are folded out mechanically – similar to an aeroplane – and their distance is adjustable.

The assistance systems.

You know exactly what you want. You have a clear destination in sight. And you're willing to give it your all. But let's be honest: you wouldn't object to a little support on your way.

Traffic Jam Assist.

How fast is a Porsche Panamera Turbo S E

Traffic Jam Assist eases the burden on the driver when congestion is encountered on major inter-urban roads and motorways.

At speeds of up to approximately 60km/h, the system uses gentle steering inputs to keep the vehicle in the middle of the lane, regulates the distance from vehicles in front and follows the queue ahead where system limitations allow. To do this, Traffic Jam Assist tracks roadway markings and other vehicles on the carriageway. The benefit? Appreciable stress relief and greater comfort on long journeys.

Head-Up Display.

How fast is a Porsche Panamera Turbo S E

The Head-Up Display is part of the standard equipment for all Panamera models. It offers high-quality and full-colour projection of relevant driving information into the driver's field of view. With projection technology, the information is perceived to appear 2.3m in front of the driver. The display position can be adjusted to the driver's height and position in PCM. The driver is less distracted and can pay more attention to the road. Visualised information includes driving speed, engine speed, incoming calls and navigation. Road signs, hazard warnings and Sport Chrono information can also be displayed, depending on the vehicle specification. Displayed content can be individually customised.

The headlights.

The LED main headlights with matrix beam including Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus (PDLS Plus).

Great foresight is achieved with the LED main headlights featuring matrix beam technology. The main headlights with matrix beam strategically deactivate specific segments of the permanent main-beam cone. 84 individually controlled LEDs adapt to the situation ahead by switching off or dimming accordingly. Vehicles in front of you or on the opposite side of the road are dimmed, while the areas in between and next to them are still fully illuminated. To optimise target fixation, not only are the lights selectively dimmed to fade out oncoming vehicles, the area to the right of the light void is lit more brightly for better guidance of the driver's visual attention. Segment-specific dimming of highly reflective traffic signs also acts to avoid driver dazzle. The LED main headlights with matrix beam including PDLS Plus: bright, homogeneous, safe.

A special feature that highlights the sports car nature is the naturally aspirated engine character of the 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine with a linear unleashing of power. There is no performance plateau, as is common with turbo engines today. The sports exhaust system with intensive V8 sound characteristics is a perfect match. The same applies to the sports suspension which is lowered by 10mm and has adaptive air suspension and to a more streamlined set-up specially designed for the Panamera GTS models.

How fast is a Porsche Panamera Turbo S E

How fast is a Porsche Panamera Turbo S E

The interior of the Panamera GTS models also reveals their love of sport. The combination of Black leather with Alcantara®, Adaptive sports seats with 'GTS' logos on the headrests, as well as decorative trim and door sill guards made of brushed Aluminium with Black anodised finish are a clear demonstration of this. Even the steering wheel rim of the GT sports steering wheel and the roof lining are finished with Alcantara®.

Another special feature of the

Panamera

GTS models: the optional equipment package in two contrasting colours. This includes stitching on the dashboard, the door panels, the seats, the armrest in the centre console and the floor mats finished with stitching in Carmine Red or Crayon colour. The headrests of the four seats with the 'GTS' logo are stitched in the same colour. To match: the seat belts are in Carmine Red or Crayon.
