How long is cooked chicken good for in the fridge Reddit

It's going to depend on how it's prepared. Many alarmists who play it safe will say 3-4 days, but I say the majority of them are full of BS. I've eaten some cooked foods/meats as old as 7-14 days and turned out just fine. When I've had food that's gone bad, it just messed up my poop the next day and that's about it. YMMV.

Bottom line, it depends on how the food was cooked. If it was cooked and it's relatively dehydrated, it'll last longer. If it's cooked in something that's pretty much a watery, soppy mess, it won't last as long. You'll have to play around with it to see how long it'll last, but most cooked meals I've done last up to 7 days in the fridge without issues.

I do Monday - Friday in a sealed container just fine.

I've never been that squeamish about or affected by old food.

You could look up FDA food safety laws; which I think err to ~3 day maximum for most cooked items.

I do really though try to cook on Sunday instead of Saturday to shorten fridge time. If I needed to cook Friday or Saturday I may consider the freezer OR maybe just buy my lunch on Friday.

I love stocking extra portions into the freezer for future use.

Hey, I don't know about the rest of you guys, but I find that when I reheat my cooked chicken (usually through microwaving or oven) it gets really dry.

What I usually do is just marinate a whole shit load of chicken breasts on the weekend and freeze them all. Every night, I take however much I'm going to eat and put it in the fridge to defrost and I just throw it in the oven for ~30mins. Tastes amazing, literally only takes seconds to prepare once you've already marinated it.

I don't know the catering or USDA standard but I eat refrigerated foods within the week.

It freezes well, so immediately freeze up small portions for later.

In my house chicken is stripped from the bone immediately after it's cooked and we set aside sliced and diced chicken for other meals. If it's in the fridge for five days uncovered, it's already dried out and like jerky plus may have bacteria growing in the carcass. Better to remember the 3 day rule for covered proteins and vegetables in air tight containers and set the meat aside for freezing for other meals - it only takes a few minutes to do this and saves you some money by not wasting food. You probably worked hard for the money to buy the chicken the first time, why throw your money out with the garbage simply because you were too lazy to protect your investment. Get into the habit of budgeting your meals. Chicken I cook today gets used in four additional meals. Plus I make soup or stock out of the bones. A frugal person doesn't waste money or energy.

The National Restaurant Association recommends throwing out cooked TCS food after 7 days, assuming it's been covered and kept below 41 degrees. It's probably a pretty conservative estimate. Assuming you're not running a restaurant, I'd say it's fine for a couple more days.

Safest assumption is 1 week. After that, it's going to need to pass the sniff test.

Heat it back up to kill any new germs every few days it'll last at least a week. Freeze the rest

level 2

Heating and cooling chicken multiple times actually increases the number of bacteria present. You're safer only heating it up twice, and if you aren't certain you will eat all you've cooked, cool it as quickly as possible and freeze it for later use.
