The Crystal Shrine Grotto is a unique attraction that will leave your jaw dropped looking at the many unique types of concrete slabs. The attraction is the only crystal cavern in the world and is mainly a place of quiet reflection. The cement cavern also features statues of Jesus and various other important figures in the Bible.

You can’t imagine what lies beyond the three-tiered fountain and reflecting pool when you drive into Memphis Memorial Cemetery. The most unique feature of the park is found across the stone bridges in this non-denominational cemetery, which dates back almost a century. It’s the crystal shrine grotto.

The Crystal Shrine Grotto is small and quaint. It was man made in the 1900s. Once you cross a tiny bridge, the area consists of a pond with a fountain, a chain locked cavern, a stump called Abrahams Oak, a small grassy area called God's Garden perfect for a picnic, and of course the Grotto itself. The entryway is narrow and uneven, so if you have anyone with any mobility issues, it might be difficult if not impossible to get into the grotto itself. It is very dark, and some lights were either turned off or burnt out. The darkness near the back of the crystal cave was a little creepy. At least the baby Jesus was there when we went on 9/25/21! I preferred the outside sections compared to the crystal cave. The stump was the highlight for me and my family. It was shaded, had instrumental hymn music playing and felt very relaxing. It is located inside a cemetery, and there are funerals here several times a day. While it's a nice place to visit, it's also important to be mindful of others who might be there for a very different reason.

With 4,500 acres of spacious greenery and six and a half miles of urban trail, this park, situated in the center of Shelby County, is treasured by the entire local community. Having recently been awarded protection against commercial development, the park is now free to expand. Already offering opportunities to bike ride and horseback ride, hike and fish, and with a clean recycled playground that offers lots of activities to children of all ages with plenty of climbing nets, swings and three separate large play areas with adequate turf stuff underneath to help with falls, there is plenty here to keep the whole family busy.

With 4,500 acres of green space and over 40 miles of trails, Shelby Farms Park covers more than five times the area of Central Park in New York City and is one of the largest urban parks in the United States. In the park, you can find lakes, wetlands, and forests and it is a great place to see for hiking, biking, and horseback riding as you explore the natural beauty of Tennessee. Interestingly, the area was once the location of a commune that was designed to educate emancipated slaves in both practical and cultural skills to help them assimilate into society.

Why is Shelby Farms Park included in our top of romantic places in Memphis?. It is an ideal setting to take a relaxing stroll hand in hand. Yet, it is also a large territory full of experiences.

A wonderful safe, clean park to visit. Spent about 4 hours there and will def have to go back. The visitor center has the map and info if you are new to going. Also, mostly clean restrooms. The same building has a cute giftshop as well. This building sets atop the land of Hyde Lake. Adjacent to it is Coastal Fish company, which we plan to return and visit. 1st we visited the dog park area, lots of fields and some small ponds/lakes for your dog to cool off in. Huge amount to just be able to run and play, as that area dogs can be off leash. Then we went to the Hyde park area, walked around Hyde Lake, sat on some waterside lounge chairs. They have scooter and bike rentals there (via an app). Also a boat rental, but it appeared close (think everything opens 4/23 on water rentals). Definitely plan to return to do the horseback riding, the miniature golf and ape adventure area, as well as check out some of the wooded trails. This park, if guessing, to experience everything would take a solid weekend, perhaps 2 weekends. Gorgeous views!

Miles and miles of acreage to enjoy the great outdoors. I've been cycling and walking here and feel like I only scratched the surface of what is offered. Always something new to do when visiting! A great place to appreciate nature, be active, take the family out or even on a cute date!

I visit a LOT of parks (producing events) and honestly this on has to be at the top of the list!! Take a long walk on one of there many trails and see for yourself! Beautiful views of the lake from every side. That’s not all there’s beautiful architecture, buildings, artwork, landscaping etc.

Depressing but well explained history. The history of the event was rather well explained, and certainly went on to clarify the fog of war. Certainly this is a site that is probably best for mature audiences. That being said, the children will enjoy hiking and the plenty of opportunities for shade

Great little museum to tell you the history of the fort! We also stayed in the very well updated campground. Would highly recommend both.

Love it here! So peaceful and great trails to hike. We camped there last weekend at the primitive site and it was great. Had our own bonfire area and outhouse.(don't enter outhouse if your not friendly with huge spiders though lol) Trail is very hilly to get to site so be prepared for a good workout hike to get all your gear out there, but worth it. They have other campsites you can drive up to though if you'd prefer that.

Now that's a trip worth visiting. Alex Haley Museum was always on our bucket list and we finally made a trip to experience and explore this amazing place. There is nothing that comes close to how well it is managed, the professionalism and friendliness of the staff and the quality of knowledge gained. The house is very well preserved with all original items. I must admit it is well worth the visit when you are in this area. People from all over the united states and other parts of the world have visited this museum. Side note: you must watch roots and roots the next generation to understand further and how Alex traced his roots all the way to Gambia, Africa and how the Old African Kunta Kinte who was captured and sold as a slave into the USA. Kunta Kinte was one of Haley's ancestors, a Gambian Muslim man who was born in 1750, enslaved, and taken to America where he died in 1822. There is no picture which can truly describe the real experience. Must Visit, Highly Recommend ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This is my second visit. I absolutely love to come here. My grandmother and mother used to visit everytime they were close and I feel almost like I'm walking in there footsteps when I visit. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. It's a different experience and it really puts life into perspective. I highly recommend a visit here.

When in Jackson, make a side trip to see Tina Turner Museum @ Flagg Grove School in Brownsville, approximately 32 minutes away. There's much more to do: do a tasting at Crown Winery, play a few rounds at Casey Jones Mini Golf, and sample the fine beverages at Samuel T Bryant Distillery LLC.

This is a great place to stop and stretch your legs on a road trip, or to visit if you are in the area. All the museums are free and the staff is helpful. In the main building of the West Tennessee Delta Heritage Center you can learn about the history of how cotton was made, local artists, local wildlife, among other things. There are also plenty of travel brochures and a small gift shop. Outside of the main building you can tour the house of Sleepy John Estes and the school house of Tina Turner.

Good place to stop on a road trip. The ladies at the visitor center were very friendly and welcoming and there were no entrance fees for either the center or the schoolhouse. The latter is filled with memorabilia from Tina Turner’s career. The house next door is equally, if not more, interesting.

AWESOME!! we did a overnight through Harvest Host, our first one at that, and we loved it!! The museum was so cool and the gift shop. They are even Pet Friendly and was so sweet about our 5 month old barking at everything due to his excitement. If we are in the area we will definitely stay again. If you are not set up for boondocking/drydocking, you may want to reconsider there are no hookups. We wanted to try it and still loved it. #rvnewadventures #tinaturnermuseum

This place is expensive but well worth it! We had a great time and will be back. We got there about 230 and only had time for the drive through so next time we will go earlier so we can do the walk through as well. They have a retail store in the walk through area and you can buy food to feed various animals including the giraffes! The drive through food was $3 each or 4/$10. The admission was $20 adult and kids 2-12 $12. They closed at 5pm. Super fun family day. Probably a little miserable when it's hot out. But was a good temp the day we went. The easiest things for us to feed were the ostriches, thought they made a mess, and the deer. The buffalo heads are so big they can't fit their mouth in the bucket so they wind up trying to take the bucket from you. The camel's take the bucket from you. The llamas are unruly sometimes. We did have one spit on us because the one that was already eating wouldn't move when the taller one came and tried to push him with his head. So when the shorter didn't move the taller one spat on us. We did have a mess in the car afterward due to the food spilling when ostriches ate. But it can be cleaned. Nothing too bad just the feed in floor.

Absolutely worth every cent! The drive through lasts about 2+ hrs then there's the walk through petting Zoo. They've expanded the drive through pastures so the Bison no longer cause traffic jams, and there's A LOT of new animals running around...tapir, Wildebeest, Midnight Peacocks, red river hogs and more. My oldest loves hand-feeding carrots to George the Giraffe, my middle kid loves the aviary and my youngest loves getting lost in the goat herd at the petting zoo. Plan for 3-4 hrs there.

Smooth entry and ticket/feed purchasing. LOTS of animals to feed. I’d suggest 12 feed buckets if you really love feeding animals. We did 8 and wish we had done 12. There are some areas that can get “cargested” (like what I did there…) but they swoop in and help keep things moving without rushing those that are still trying to enjoy specific animals. Be cognizant of things on your dash - clean it off before you go through. I may be missing something from my dash now. Don’t worry, I called and let them know immediately what happened, which animal it was and it’s location. The holding areas for the other animals isn’t great (cats) and it made me pretty sad and it’s the main reason for the dropped star, just for your own information. Would I go again? Yes, I’d just likely do the drive thru only. The giraffe feeding is worth going into the walk through area at least once for sure though!!

What a great visit even though it was chilly out. A few raptors in the cages, but I suppose 54ﾟ isn't too cold for them? The walk was a great way to spend an hour this afternoon exploring the place. Can't believe it's free! Very nice!

Beautiful park really gives you a close experience with nature. I was not expecting the birds showing experience and also loved the peaceful boardwalk. Recommendd you visit if you're in Jackson, TN. This is how the park looks on January. 💙

Even though it has most definitely seen better days, it's still a very enjoyable walk. On days like today where the heats up to about 93 the canopy of the trees make a cooler spot to get the blood flowing right. The aviary wasn't very energetic, but well kept. Hate to see so much graffiti in a place such as this but kids will be kids(even grown ones). Also has a few nice pavilions for resting or picnics or whatever else may come about on your stroll, and clean restroom facilities.

Quaint little village to explore and Great for families with children. Casey Jones museum to walk through with a gift shop. Price was nominal. You can ring the bell on the train. Would recommend on your next road trip!

What a delightful little museum. It took about one hour for us to leisurely walk through with a curious and thoughtful four year old. Then he spent thirty more minutes playing with the train tables at the end. You could do it a lot faster if desired. Nicely curated, older but well maintained. I really enjoyed looking at his house. Definitely a great value and worth stopping at for a nice, clean rest area on the way through town. People there were super nice.

This a neat museum to stop and see. The price was only $5.50 for seniors and $6.50 for everyone else. There was a small media center that tells the life of Casey Jones but they didn’t play the great full dead song. There is Casey’s house and a train to climb on and take pictures great gift shop

It's really pretty here. They have lots to do and you can take great photos. Hiking, paddle boating, cabins, swimming, sitting, watching birds, they have a few cool prey birds too by the cabin check in. We had a lot of fun.

Beautiful park that is well maintained!! The cabins look well furnished. Saw many families sitting around enjoying the bonfire pits and playground. The lake is crystal clear - which is rare to find in this area! Can't wait to come back and go hiking!!

Beautiful Park, Great Facilities and EXCEPTIONAL Camp Host. We stayed here a couple of weeks ago and absolutely loved the park. The parking spaces were spacious, the amenities were clean and everyone was super friendly. What took our experience to a whole new level and made THE difference for us was the camp hosts - Paul and Sharon. Paul and Sharon were our "angels." They helped us tremendously in setting up our RV for the first time (we are newbies). Paul and Sharon gave us the tour of the area, were kind, gentle and knowledgeable with all aspects of camping. They are the reason we are coming back next March. We arrived at the park as strangers, and within hours of being there, thanks to Paul and Sharon, felt at home. What AMAZING and beautiful souls they both are. We will always be deeply grateful for their help, guidance and support. Chickasaw is very lucky to have them. 🥰🥰💖💖

This was a self guided tour. I recognize almost all the cars instantly and a lot of those brought back very fond memories from my childhood. It seemed like the background music was also tied to the area I was in, I'm sure that was coincidental but was neat. Wish they had some merch. And was guided but for 10bucks well worth a stop and see.

Lots of popular movie cars, trucks, motorcycles and more. A lot of fun options to take pictures for the whole family. A must visit place if you're in Jackson, TN. Good price.

We spent one night here in this western Tennessee park enroute to AZ. Several campgrounds are within this large park 10 miles off I 40. There’s also a horse camp area with a large stable. Nice wooded sites and many have good views of the lake. Restrooms neat & bleached clean, also showers. There are many trails within the park. We arrived in late afternoon so only time for a 3 mile hike on the scenic Cub Lake Trail- nice soft hiking trail with very little elevation change and nice views of the lake. No time to visit the gift shop at the Welcome Center but it looked inviting.

We paid $29 for one night. It was $27 + $5, reservation fee, + $2.75 taxes, - $6.75 for seniors + $.76, round up donation = $29. As were on our way from point A to B, we only stayed one night. I would love to go back & stay longer. First, it is a long drive off of I-40, so you're really back in the boonies. Second, look at the road in my picture -- I love a campground that does NOT have paved roadways; it just looks more appealing & outdoorsy. The sites seemed to be nicely spaced. The camp host drove by to say 'hi' soon after we arrived. We did not need to check in. The bath house was old but very well maintained and very clean. We were there on a Wednesday night in late April, so no noise. :)

We stayed 2 nights. Was an awesome place to get away from life and enjoy a peaceful quit few days. However there was alot of red hornets hovering over our cabin. And many nest. I feel this needs to be addressed asap.

This is such a great park. The last two times we've visited Paris, we've taken our kids to this park. This last time was in winter, so we weren't aware of the amazing splash pad. This time, we weren't prepared for it. Next time, we'll be ready! We'll also bring our tennis rackets! The walking path is so peaceful and lovely.

Cute park in a nice town! This was our 2nd visit while traveling through over the years and we love stopping at this park. When the weather is nice there are all kinds of things to entertain the kiddos!

We love this spot in the summer but they also decorated for Christmas 🎅 🎄!! Such a cool spot…You definitely have to check it out wether it is summer or winter it is a fun spot & always clean.

Peaceful but extremely sad. You can actually feel the sorrow blowing through the trees. No sounds. No birds, cars or anything. There is an eerily stillness that resides at this location. Such talent lost too soon. It's is a beautiful monument but people that have visited vandalized some of the installations. I don't understand how some people can be so disrespectful. So sad.

My wife loves country music and she loves Patsy Cline and the visit to this Park Memorial was absolutely amazing we even danced in the gazebo to Patsy Cline and no one else was there it was peaceful and well-kept I recommend anyone to at least drop by pay your respects and enjoy it

Vandalism is bad. People shouldn't disrespect places of remembrance

This place is great highly recommend! Only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that the spot we rented 11 needs maintenance there's a large dip in the front next to road, when backing into the spot, it was so bad that the hitch of my camper bottomed out. And the road in front of the spot is so narrow making it difficult to back a camper in without going off the edge of the road where it drops off almost a foot. We enjoyed everything else the beach swim area was great and the office workers and park rangers where extremely nice! Will definitely be back many many times!

Beautiful place to camp. My battery to the car died, and super nice park rangers jumped me off for free. Thank you!

Hiking trails are nice but limited. Seems like walking on a green carpet of moss. Very pretty. I didn't like the look of the shower area but after the hike I took one and the water was hot and the pressure was good so I was happy.

We Absolutely Love Loretta Lynn’s Ranch. Loretta herself, sings her beautiful songs on the stage she has there on the Ranch. Horseback riding is Amazing. Everything here at Loretta’s Ranch is Amazing. Great place to go and relax and enjoy. Oh and the tour is amazing ya gotta go and do it.

Loretta Lynn's Ranch was amazing!!! Absolutely loved the environment and the staff was all so nice. The tour was a blast and greatly enjoyed. Loved the cabin, was a little disappointed on how the Wi-Fi is done but over all, I wasn't ready to leave the ranch and plan to visit again next year. The peace and quiet along with its beauty was exactly what my little family needed.

The Ranch was absolutely beautiful. I felt so connected to her while there. The tour and tour guide was awesome. The campground is beautiful and peaceful though some of the spots are difficult to get in and out of for a 40 ft camper.

Awesome, friendly, knowledgeable staff. Love the wines. You have got to try the limited edition rebel. Wow. That is a great wine. Love it. Visit just for a sit in the shade and a few glasses. The definition of relaxation.

Friendly staff, tasty wines, and a comforting, laid-back atmosphere. We’re visiting from a big city so it was nice to kick back and relax, while enjoying a bottle of wine under their gazebo and listening to the peaceful sounds of nature. I highly recommend and would visit again!

Great winery. Wines are good (some really good). They will let you sample all the wines and they are very friendly. They have outdoor seating and have music and food at times through the year.

Visited the store at the Opry Mills in Nashville, TN with my wife. Anna set us up with a tasting and we were able to try a variety of their selection. Anna was very knowledgeable and helpful in explaining the difference between the wines for my wife and I. We purchased a few of our favorites, which included The People’s Choice Blackberry. Great wine and an awesome customer oriented environment thanks to Anna!!

Stopped there yesterday to boondock! What a gorgeous place! Quiet, peaceful, in the grapevines, all alone with the stars and some good wine from their winery! Thank YOU Amber Falls Winery for a wonderful afternoon and evening!

Great place with great owners and staff. A wonderful place (weather permitting) to sit and relax outside to enjoy good music, wine and food! During "Music on the Ridge" seasons, they provide fans during warmer weather and heaters & wind breaks when the weather is chilly. Good family atmosphere. The food trucks are an added bonus.

THE BEST EXPERIENCE! My husband and I brought our 17 yr old daughter and 20 yr old son to the Storyteller’s Farm (our son is a MASSIVE Johnny Cash fan). In short, we came away completely impressed by the property, the memorabilia, and the stories! It truly feels like you’re stepping into grandma and grandpa’s house - authentic, unpretentious, super cozy, but oozing with the spirit of Johnny, June, and their families! It actually feels like you’re just waiting for them to show up from being out of town - it’s nearly indescribable! The owners of the property were out of town, but their friends, Patsy and Rodney, welcomed us in their stead and were incredibly hospitable! I’m telling you, it felt like we were visiting old friends - they were so warm, welcoming, and kind! We were given a generous tour with ample time in the home, the garage, and on the property! My favorite experience was our time with Mark (Mark Alan Cash is Johnny’s nephew). He spoiled us with family stories, personal reflections, and a private concert that not only honored his uncle, but also showcased his own music (my personal request)! Our family was incredibly touched by his transparency, sincere love of family, and approachable demeanor. I can’t say enough good things about him, but I highly recommend buying his CD/t-shirt and paying for ticket if he’s ever singin’ in your town! I wish more people knew about this little slice of heaven Johnny called, “the center of my universe!” It is a gorgeous piece of property with magical landscapes that could mesmerize the most cynical person. No matter how you feel about country music or Johnny Cash, you’ll walk away from this experience humbled and grateful - we sure did!

The best decision we made, was going to the storytellers museum, and farm. The nephew of Johnny Cash was our tour guide! Mark! You are amazing! He sang to us, told stories, and I got to soak up all of the things about the man in black. Just when I thought my day couldn’t get any better we headed down to the farm, Johnny cash’s private escape he owned. Where we spent the afternoon visiting with Sally, and Brian. What we thought would be a 2-3 tour turned into a 5 hour walk back in time, stories, and me leaving with a deeper understanding the roots of the Cash family! If you are in Nashville, this is a MUST do! For anyone!

We loved our visit to Storytellers and Hideaway Farm. By far this was my favorite thing we did while in the Nashville area. It made my trip. If you are in the area you have to check it out. Everyone was so kind and friendly. Mark Cash (Johnnys nephew)sang to us talked with us and told us stories. Such a great experience.

Kick off your visit on the 12th (Sat): look for all kinds of wild species at Montgomery Bell State Park and then wander the streets of Downtown Franklin. Here are some ideas for day two: relax in the rural setting at Sam Davis Home, then steep yourself in history at Rippavilla Plantation, then contemplate the long history of Lotz House Museum, and finally steep yourself in history at Winstead Hill Park.

Montgomery Bell State Park is a lovely place to hike. The Jim Bailey trail follows a beautiful creek and had a variety of wildflowers in bloom. We picked up the Montgomery Bell Trail at Church Hollow and followed another beautiful creek. We also checked out the spillway at Lake Woodhaven. Then, we had a delicious lunch at the park. I look forward to returning.

Awesome park with great hiking trails, mountain bike trails, a nice campground, hotel, restaurant with killer outdoor patio and a golf course. All within a 40ish minute drive to Nashville. We're staying at the campground and like it overall. It's older and, from what I hear, will be receiving some much needed upgrades over the next few years. We will definitely be coming back though. There's plenty to do and see and it's super family friendly. All the campground host have been super friendly. The bathhouse, near campsite 1, is definitely older but still decently clean, has plenty of hot water and overall serves it's purpose. Between the hiking, abundant creeks to cool off in on hot summer days, the lakes in the park, and other amenities, it's definitely worth checking out and has move up to one of our top favorite state parks/campgrounds to visit that's close to home, we're from Nashville.

Camped there for 3 days. Very nice campground. Nice river to stroll by. Guest Services were very helpful and friendly.

Awesome place to hike! And even better for MTB! There is a small "pump track" area with parking and a bathroom, and then trails all around the park. Some BIG obstacles with areas to go around if needed. Kids park, RC track, RC airfield and boat ramp for Duck River.

We were camping at David Crockett State Park and I drove over to ride the trails. What a Gem!!! A very nice park with pavilions and picnic tables, lots of green area. The single track is superb! A bit of everything from cruising long the river, then steep sections, then back down again. Smooth tread, rocks, roots, boulders, man-made drop-offs with by-passes. It's a blast! The Columbia Cycling Club did a great job in laying out this much trail on limited land. There is a pump/skills track up the road beyond the trailhead, so don't load up your bike (like I did) until you give that a shot as well. Nice to see what can be accomplished when clubs and local govt/agencies work together.

We really Enjoy hiking or biking on sunny mornings. Be aware of bikes coming by fast. Fun place with lots to do. Shelters and bathrooms available. They offer an obstacle course for bikers that is really fun for beginners. Area for Miniature Planes and cars. The water is great to enjoy during summer months to cool off after a long bike ride. Pretty extreme but awesome. Well maintained.

One of best historical tours we have ever done, largely due to our tour guide, Phyllis! She was congenial and extremely knowledgeable! We started with a 10 minute video, then reviewed an adjacent room of several exhibits before the personal tour hosted by Phyllis throughout the home. Highly recommend this to anyone with a love of history. James & Sarah Polk deserve much more notoriety!

Nicely done museum house with a focus on President James K. Polk. The museum has a very good collection of artifacts. The guide was knowledgeable and engaging. It's worth noting that Polk only lived a portion of his life in this house - with the demolition of the Polk House in Nashville, this became the primary place to serve as a museum to Polk in the area.

Visited today with my son and we loved it! Very friendly staff, nice gift shop, and interesting things on exhibit. Benjamin served as a great guide and we will be back again bringing our other family members.

Love this place! Such a fun way to kill an afternoon. The coffee shop is wonderful and the cafe is delicious. The flea market itself is so big it will take you a couple hours to look at each stall. You won’t find many true vintage treasures, but you’ll find a lot of neat old sentimental pieces, some interesting furniture, hand made gifts and crafts, tons of candles and body products, toys, new clothes, pretty much something for everyone. I always take family here when they visit and everyone loves it. Some things are priced a bit high but make wise choices and it’s worth it to support a local business that stocks local products and supports local artists! I’ve gotten some really great gifts for people here, and usually find something for myself too. Honestly my favorite thing is all the different handmade greeting cards. So sweet!

This is one of my favorite happy places! It’s a fun place to come and support local small businesses whether it’s antique finds (we’ve found lots of great pieces for our home here for great prices!), homemade items, or curated gifts. The staff has always been friendly and welcoming. The cafe has DELISH food. So good. And the coffee is always so good too. Getting to walk around and shop in a pretty place with a yummy coffee in hand just makes for a really enjoyable time!

Meh as a collector of vintage advertising I was let down. Mostly repops or brands no one cares about. Mostly Knick knacks, seasonal stuff, clothes and DIY soaps.

We had the best time zip lining with Tyler and Holly as our guides! They were great with our young son and, everyone in general-super sweet and super knowledgeable! I would recommend this for anyone visiting the area!!

It was my first time ever going zip lining. Me and my husband decided to go on the night adventure in Kingston Springs. Let me take a minute to brag on the amazing crew we had the pleasure of spending the time with. Tyler, Lexie and Joe were funny, great attitudes, fun, helpful and we truly enjoyed the time with them. We highly recommend going to adventure works and asking for these three. You won't regret it. We will be goin to their other locations asap.

We had a great time zipping thru the trees. IT is shady and lovely. The zip lines are pretty cool...not the highest or fastest I've ever been on, but for only $60 you get almost 2 hours of zipping. The guides were great and very helpful. It was completely safe.

At Carter House, about a mile from the Carnton mansion, a once-in-a-lifetime event unfolded on November 30, 1864. While bullets and cannonballs pummeled their home, the Carter family hid in the cellar waiting for the gunfire to stop. If it's hard to imagine what this was like for Fountain Branch Carter, the businessman who owned the home; his wife; and their 12 children, all is revealed during a tour of the Carter House State Historic Site.

You can hear lots of stories from the Battle of Franklin during a trip to Carter House. Carter House was built in 1830 by Fountain Branch Carter and was the command post for the Union Army during the Battle of Franklin on November 30, 1864. The Carter family (along with the Lotz family from across the street) sought refuge in the basement of this home during the battle.

The Carter House was originally a private residence but it became an important part of the Union defenses during the five-hour Battle of Carter.

Across the street from the Lotz House Museum is the Carter House, where Franklin residents took shelter during the Battle of Franklin. The small brick house may look unassuming, but it saved two families from the fallout of the battle. Carter House now operates as a museum with several touring options for the public.

The Carter House was built around 1830 by fountain branch carter during the time of the Civil War. This historic house served as the headquarters for the United States Army during the battle. Besides, the house, outbuildings, and grounds are captivating with the battle damage still visible.

We thoroughly enjoyed our tour of The Carter House. Our guide was very knowledgeable and was quick to answer our many questions. She told us about the horrific battle that took place on the grounds of the property. She pointed out the bullet holes in the walls and furniture. I took photographs of the outside and of the grounds. They do not permit pictures to be taken inside of the big house. They do allow photos to be taken in the small house and log house. From the inside one of them, you can see the enormity of the bullets fired. If you are in the area, you won’t regret checking it out.

Mike did a great job on our tour and brought the Battle of Franklin to life for us!

We stopped in Franklin and saw the battle ground at Carter House, an amazing part of our American History. We stopped in town and look at some buildings too. So much to see and not enough time, be sure to visit St. Paul's in downtown.

German immigrants Albert and Margaretha Lotz moved to Franklin in 1856 and two years later built Lotz House, a product of Albert’s master carpentry and woodcarving skills. The house found itself at the epicenter of the Battle of Franklin on November 30, 1864. If you are interested in American history you will enjoy touring his house. The man who built it was a wood worker and he used this house to showcase his talent. The staircase is beautifully made as well as many other details in the home. The house was located in the middle of the historic Battle of Franklin. There are still bullet holes in the house. They don’t allow photos to be taken inside. They have a gift shop if you would like to purchase a souvenir.

Definitely different than any other guided tour we've taken. Chuck was great, he made it fun for everyone. He was engaged with his audience and made it personable for all, we were in a larger crowd too-5 or 6 different parties, around 12 to 15 people total. Very impressed.

A visit to Carnton, one of Franklin’s most popular porches, is next on the list. This home gives visitors and locals alike the chance to learn about the area’s Civil War history. I chatted with Brad Kinnison, the production and design manager for The Battle of Franklin Trust (and my tour guide on a recent visit), to learn more about the home’s back porch—the first thing you see when you round the corner for your tour.

Built in 1826 by former Nashville mayor Randal McGavock, Carnton was frequently visited by those shaping Tennessee and American history, including President Andrew Jackson. During the Battle of Franklin on November 30, 1864, Carnton served as the largest field hospital in the area for hundreds of wounded and dying Confederate soldiers. Carnton is also home to the McGavock Confederate Cemetery.

Another wonderful place you can visit for fun and enjoyment in Franklin is Carnton. This amazing and beautiful house is in good condition with modern facilities. Besides, unlike most historical home tours where you can only peek into roped-off rooms, they take you right into all the rooms.

Of all the historic sites in Franklin, Carnton Plantation may be the most famous. The antebellum mansion rises near the grounds of the Battle of Franklin. Once, it was a grand home of Randal McGavock, former Nashville mayor and plantation owner.

Had such a great time on this tour of the Carnton Plantation. Our guide Carrie was extraordinary and did such a great job telling the story behind it all. Be sure to walk the grounds and visit the outbuildings and cemetery. A must see while in Franklin!

Very cool historical site. My parents and I went with my 11 month old twins for the basic tour. It was $18 a person. There were several other people there and I had to carry the babies because no strollers or anything are allowed in the house due to all the antique furniture and stuff in there. I only got to see two rooms before I had to leave and give the babies a snack. The rooms were beautiful and all period correct with actual belongings from the house loaned by family members. The tour guide was very informative, my parents said upstairs and downstairs was really neat. I missed most of the tour but one of the employees was really sweet and gave me a little booklet thing so I could read and look at pictures of what I missed. If you pay for the basic tour you can still walk the grounds to see the garden, slave house, smoke house, spring house etc by yourself. The ground was hilly and bumpy so I wouldn't recommend pushing a stroller on it. Everything is maintained well and there are several signs explaining what things are. Right next door is the Confederate and McGavock family cemetery (including some of the slaves). The cemetery has several signs with information about it. Pretty sad past but very interesting. There's also a gift shop there where you buy your tour ticket. I wouldn't suggest bringing any small children here because they will be bored and it will be a struggle keeping them from touching things. Anyone handicapped would have a hard time you with all the standing and steep stairs to go upstairs plus all the walking outside. They have bathrooms right by the gift shop that were mostly clean.

I cannot say enough good things about Hannah Jacobs and the girls at Carnton weddings and events. Phenomenal staff and planner. Hannah is accommodating, kind, gets the job done without asking anything (she just takes action and handles all situations and problems effortlessly taking stress off couples getting married.) One of the best experiences I have had at a venue while being the wedding photographer. I absolutely loved getting to photograph and be apart of the vendor team of Carnton for our couple's day. Such a fun group of people who are ready to make wedding day dreams come true. I would recommend not only Carnton but Hannah to ALL of my clients. She is a wonderful person and wedding planner and so organized.

I'd never been to this specific Tailgate Brewery prior to about a week ago. I was pleasantly surprised to find out how dope this place was. The artwork all over every wall is cool. I decided to work through the beer menu and try five or six different pints. The lines moved quickly, which allowed my hands to not have an empty glass for more than a couple minutes at a time. All the offerings I enjoyed were spot on for what I expect of Tailgate. I ordered from three different bartenders throughout the evening. They were all helpful and very friendly, offering suggestions when patrons were unsure of what to get. I didn't order any food, but several people in my party ordered a variety, and every bit of it looked/smelled amazing. The price point is well within reason. This Tailgate gets an "A" grade for sure. Highly recommend.

Great beer, great food, good environment. It's a must go to if in the area. As someone that loves PB, their PB milk stout is amazing! Pizza and loaded Mac n cheese waffle fries pictured.

Tailgate HQ is an incredible hang. Amazing beer and very good pizza, sammies, snax and soft serve. Super-friendly, helpful staff. Hubs says the reuben is the best in the city (bring back the reuben pizza please - it was INSPIRED). We love the backyard in the late afternoon / early evening. Lots of toddlers and doggies making the scene. A perfect Nashville original. So glad it’s just around the corner.

A once in a lifetime chilling fun experience. This cave was worth exploring. Wear a helmet it's short at the beginning. The guide owned half of the property and knew so much.. her side has the cave in which water flowed into the Red River. I caught orbs on camera and felt so calm in there.

Beautiful yet creepy place to visit! It's a must see place. The owners of this property were very nice. The property is beautiful and well kept. We loved the tour and hearing the history. Take pictures inside the cave. I even had a couple of pictures that I did not take show up in my gallery..... creepy!

Number 2: Bell Witch The story of the Bell Witch of Tennessee began circulating in the early 1800's, after Farmer John Bell and his family moved to the community of Red River, Tennessee, from North Carolina. Before long, the family started reporting a variety of STRANGE incidents. These included whispering voices similar to those of old women singing hymns, night terrors about RATS gnawing away at the family's beds, and the sighting of a bizarre animal, which appeared to be a hybrid between a rabbit and a dog. A spirit believed to have been that of a woman called Kate Batts began haunting Bell's home. The entity was able to speak, change form, and EVEN affect the physical environment. According to legends, the family also discovered a vial an unknown liquid inside the house. They gave a dose of the liquid to their cat, and their animal died on the spot. As the story goes, before he became president, Andrew Jackson had heard of Bell's troubles, and decided to investigate the haunting. He, and several of his men, including a witch-slayer that carried silver bullets in his gun, visited Bell's farm, and it was JACKSON, who dubbed the presence, the "Bell Witch." By 1820, John Bell had grown ill due to the witch's constant torment. By some accounts, it was the witch that actually poisoned him. After his funeral, the sounds of laughter and SINGING could be heard coming from the graveyard, and Bell became the only person in history whose death was attributed to the actions of a spirit.
