Because tomatoes are a natural product, weights vary vastly, from tiny cherry tomatoes to giant beefsteak. This makes it difficult to provide exact figures for all varieties, so to make things easier I’ve split this page up into size categories. Cherry Tomato Weights & CaloriesCherry tomatoes are the smallest and sweetest type of tomato and are readily available in most supermarkets in various varieties. As you can see from the image below, they vary in shape and size, so for the purpose of calculating weight I’ve used an average figure. The table below shows the conversion amounts for an average-sized cherry tomato:

This is based on an average weight of 15g per tomato. I have also used the assumption that the average cherry tomato is 3kcal (as per My FitnessPal). Small Tomato Weights & CaloriesA small tomato is larger than a cherry tomato and around the size of a plum. They’re usually sweeter because they’re small and are the perfect size for slicing up onto a sandwich. The chart below shows the conversion values for an average-sized small tomato:
Medium Tomato Weights & CaloriesA medium tomato (around the size of a small apple) is the most commonly found tomato in supermarkets and is often known as a salad tomato. The chart below shows the conversion values for an average-sized medium tomato:

Beefsteak Tomato Weights and CaloriesA beefsteak tomato is the largest tomato variety and it can grow to enormous proportions, but for this purpose, I’ve used average store-sized weights. The chart below shows the conversion values for an average-sized beefsteak tomato:
How Many Tomatos are in a Portion?One portion or serving of fresh tomato is equal to a medium-sized tomato. The average medium-sized tomato weighs between 75 and 150g (2.6-5.3oz) and contains 14-27 calories. Use the chart below to work out the recommended portion size for other tomato size equivalents.
