About the Time Until Countdown

Counts the days, hours, minutes and seconds to a specific time. The Countdown can include all days and all hours, or just specific days (e.g. weekends) and specific hours (e.g. prime time). You can count down standard work hours (9-5) left until the start of the weekend, the start time of a favorite TV show, or hours of football practice left in the season.

Have an non-traditional work schedule? The countdown can count those hours too! Just select the custom hours option under "What type of hours should be included in the countdown?". A table will appear including every hour for each day of the week. Select which hours you wish to include or exclude by clicking on the respective hour box. Hours corresponding with blue boxes are included in the countdown, those corresponding with colorless boxes are excluded.

This countdown can be a useful motivational tool. Rather than think of deadlines in terms of weeks (which can lead to procrastination), you can find out exactly how many free hours left you have before a deadline. As a working parent who tries to squeeze in extra hours around the kids' schedule, I find knowing exactly how much "free" time I have left in a week useful for planning purposes.

Time Between Two Dates

Use this time and date duration calculator to find out the number of days, hours, minutes, and seconds between the times on two different dates. To add or subtract time from a date, use the Time Calculator.

Calculate the duration between two times

Calculating the duration between two times can be a little tricky depending on the numbers of minutes and seconds in the two times being compared. As an example, the following are the steps to determine the number of hours and minutes between two chosen times within the same day:

1. First, identify the starting and an ending time. The goal is to subtract the starting time from the ending time under the correct conditions.
2. If the times are not already in 24-hour time, convert them to 24-hour time. AM hours are the same in both 12-hour and 24-hour time. For PM hours, add 12 to the number to convert it to 24-hour time. For example, 1:00 PM would be 13:00 in 24-hour time.
3. Determine whether the number of minutes is larger in the starting time or the ending time.
   • If the ending time has a larger number of minutes: Subtract the starting time from the ending time as you would subtract normally, keeping the hours and minutes on the appropriate side of the ":", where hours are on the left, and minutes are on the right. For example:
   • If the starting time has a larger number of minutes: Treat the hour and minute portion separately. Add 60 to the number of minutes in the ending time, and subtract 1 hour from the hour portion of the ending time. Then, subtract the minutes and the hours, keeping the result on the appropriate side of the ":" where hours are on the left, and minutes are on the right. For example:

Using the Minutes Calculator

To use the tool to find the minutes difference between two times, enter

• Start time: The beginning of the activity or time-span
• End time: the end of the activity or time-span

Next, click Calculate Difference in Minutes. We'll then do the math on the two times you give us and calculate the minutes between them. Again, the tool will assume the two hours happened within 24 hours of each other (up to 23 hours and 59 minute).

• Minutes Between: A count of the minutes between the start and end time you entered in the tool.

Is Noon in the AM or PM? What About Midnight?

By tradtion, 12:00 PM is noon and 12:00 AM is midnight.

What if the time-span crosses midnight? That is, what if the start time is later than end time?

The tool will assume the two times fall within the same 24 hour period. If the start time is later than the end time it will do the math assuming the time frame passed midnight.

Minutes Between Two Times
