If you like your food spicy, get ready for a whole new way to turn up the heat. Jelly Belly has just released five hot new jelly beans for its BeanBoozled line. Called Fiery Five, the jelly beans are meant to challenge spicy food lovers to see how much heat they can really handle. While the candies look like your standard innocent jelly beans, they are far from it. The five flavors (listed in order of least hot to hottest) include sriracha, jalapeno, cayenne, habanero, and Carolina Reaper. Available on the Jelly Belly website and at retailers nationwide, each bean is appropriately hot for its placement in the progressively spicy lineup, with the mild sriracha leaving a slight burn (just like sriracha sauce) and Carolina Reaper really scorching your tongue. "Fiery Five is the next evolution of the BeanBoozled brand as it continues to push the boundaries of flavor and bravery," Rob Swaigen, vice president of global marketing for Jelly Belly, said in a press release. The Jelly Belly Candy CompanyJelly Belly says the goal of the Fiery Five was not to just kick up the heat, but also to make the beans taste like the actual peppers or sauces they're named after, so the candy-makers used real pepper puree in each bean to create true-to-life flavors. "We had to consider not only how to balance the vegetative notes in the flavor with the heat, but also how that heat presents itself and builds over time," Luz Osbun, research and development manager for Jelly Belly Candy Company said in a press release.
