How old is Nico di Angelo in blood of Olympus?

I’ve been rereading Percy Jackson, and I need somebody to explain Nico di Angelo’s age. This is driving me nuts and ruining my reading experience. I have tried to find timelines and look at the wiki for some explanation to no avail.

We first meet Nico in Titan’s Curse, which takes place in December. Grover says Nico is 10 years old (page 7). Nico's birthday is in January, so he would be almost 11 at this point. In Battle of the Labyrinth (the summer after Titan’s Curse), Nico is 11.

Last Olympian takes place the following August, a year and a half after Titan’s Curse and about three-four years after Nico comes out of the Lotus Hotel (he and Bianca are pulled out during Lightning Thief or Sea of Monsters).* Percy says Nico is 12 (Last Olympian pages 80 and 85).

Here’s where I’m confused: In Heroes of Olympus, Hazel and Reyna both say Nico is 14 (House of Hades page 6 and Blood of Olympus page 56 respectively). Heroes of Olympus takes place the winter/summer after Last Olympian. In Blood of Olympus, Nico mentions he’s three years younger than Percy, who is still 16, about to turn 17. By my count, Nico should have turned 13 between Lost Hero and Son of Neptune, not 14.

According to the the wiki, by the end of Trials of Apollo, (which I will admit I haven’t read) Nico is 15. Which makes sense: Nico would have had a birthday the January after Blood of Olympus. Percy is 18 in Trials of Apollo, which makes sense since he turned 17 right after Blood of Olympus. Based on that, I’m assuming Trials of Apollo takes place the year after Blood of Olympus.

By my count, Nico should only be 14 by the end of Trials of Apollo. Did he take Hazel’s skipped birthday from Son of Neptune? Did Rick mess up his timeline again? Am I missing something? Am I unable to count? Help me.

*edited to correct when Nico leaves the Lotus Hotel: I thought it was right before Titan’s Curse, but it was closer to Lightning Thief or Sea of Monsters (Bianca says they were in Washington DC “last summer” in Titan’s Curse, page 149)

Nico had a crush on a boy in his piano lessons, back in 1940s Italy. They were friends and Nico was absolutely head over heels. But then he had to move to America to stay safe from the war and couldn't see the boy anymore

Until he eventually tracked him down, 75 years later, as he's dying in a hospital. Nico, although obviously over his silly childhood crush, is absolutely distraught. But his old crush Recognizes him, somehow. And had convinced himself that Nico was some sort of angel

Anyway, Nico made sure he passed peacefully but he couldn't necessarily stick around to process

#Do NOT be weird abt this..#This is for ANGST#dont make it creepy or anything#It was just Nicos childhood crush who grew up while he only aged a few years#SORRY ELLE I HAD TO POST THIS I JUST HAD TO#percy jackson and the olympians#heroes of olympus#trials of apollo#pjo#hoo#toa#percy jackson#nico di angelo

No but the concept that Nico used to have a crush on Apollo is so funny. No wonder he was so mean when Lester showed up and met none of his expectations.

i have wiped that frank ‘ glow up ‘ from canon, it no longer happened. frank is still plus sized and he becomes confident in this fact. he still commands respect and becomes the character he was in TOA no matter what his body looks like because body does not equal personality or intelligence. plus size people are not evil, stupid or cowards.

Jason and Nico being able to unmask around one another for pretty much the first time ever is one of my favorite things about them. Like no matter if their relationship is romantic or platonic or if they're even just acquaintances, I feel like there's always this prevailing sense that the two of them get each other better than most people get them. They also both suffer the same "curse" of identity - they want people to see them for who they are, but people tend to only see them for who their parent is. They hear Jason Grace and think son of Jupiter before they think anything else. They hear Nico di Angelo and they think child of Hades before any other thought comes to mind. These two are the only people for each other (that they know of so far, anyways) who hear their names and think friend, or dork, or nerd about temples first.

Sure, I understand that they didn't always start out that way. Jason in canon had a LOT of issues to work through when he was on the Argo - he had his memories wiped, he was in a relationship with a girl he wasn't sure he really remembered, he was being told to be a leader even though Percy also wanted to be a leader, and so he treated Nico the way he did because it was what everyone else expected of him. But then he saw Nico open up, or more he saw Nico be forced to open up, and he realized that he didn't have to obey what everyone else thought anymore. He saw this guy who was struggling, who was hurt and hated and he saw himself in that guy, and he wanted to help.

I just think Jason and Nico's relationship is so fucking awesome. The one that they tend to have in fanon, anyways, I haven't reread HoO recently enough to form an opinion about their canon relationship. I think it's fucking awesome that we have these two characters that, to us, bond so well.

#i just think they're neat *sobs*#pjo#percy jackson and the olympians#heroes of olympus#pjato#hoo#Nico di Angelo#Jason Grace#Jasico#but like also platonic or otherwise non-romantic Jasico#jasico being bffls#AND LIKE I FEEL AS IF JASON WOULD BE SO SUPPORTIVE OF NICO AND WILL TOO!#LIke maybe he doesn't TOTALLY get alone with Will but he still thinks that as long as he makes Nico happy he's a really cool guy!#Jason SUPER respects that Will has been able to run a cabin at his age#NOt to mention all the shit Will has been through#....my poly shipper is coming through but whatever#listen exploring the bounds of relationships is cool and interesting to me

okay but what if nico and will go on the tartarus trip, and of course it’s challenging and filled with near death experiences and they can’t really communicate with anybody while they’re down there but they somehow make it out and neither of them die

…but when they make their way back to camp they find out a disproportionate amount of time has passed. like they were in tartarus for 20 years and now most of their friends are dead and the few remaining are so visibly older even though nico and will are still looking like teenagers

and they come back from walking through literal hell right into a new hellscape. because suddenly camp is unrecognizable, all the cabin counselors are different and there’s different dynamics, they know practically no one and it doesn’t help that they’re treated more like memories, as remnants of the “2 great prophecies era” and they’re only known through the stories passed down through cabins about the two brave demigods that went down to tartarus to never return

so on top of the absolute trauma and shitshow tartarus rained down on them, they have to deal with the once lovingly familiar world being undoubtedly different with no way for them to fix it

#hazels still alive because of course she is#and she describes it to nico as her feeling his and wills souls disappear when they went into tartarus#and when she felt them return she thought she was going crazy#will can’t get close to any of his cabin mates because they treat him like a relic; the apollo kid that was meaningful to the big 3#nico has a couple siblings but can’t handle how much they try to find out about tartarus and underworld stuff from him#because most of it is buried in memories too painful to dig up at the moment#and they didn’t face the prejudice he did. he doesn’t wanna make them feel an ounce of the pain he had to learn what he did#reyna and thalia are in complete disbelief when they learn they’re alive#when they force the hunters to go to camp to meet them; most of the newer hunters wonder if artemis allowed boys to join#cause why are they the same age if reynas saying she met them 20 years ago when the one was 14???#this is such a painful idea and i love it#pjo#hoo#pjo/hoo#nico di angelo#will solace#nico solo book#tartarus#percy jackson

On the one hand, in Nico’s eyes, Bianca leaves him the first chance she gets.

But Bianca was literally twelve, and had been taking care of her younger brother her entire life, and she was being offered immortality.

And the hunters should have known better than to manipulate a literal child into making an extremely life-altering permanent decision like that. (And it’s weird that most of the hunters are children and teenagers.)

But Artemis knew who Bianca was, and she was protecting her the same way she protects Thalia at the end of the book, the way she can’t protected Percy or Nico. (The gods are extremely willing to straight up kill these kids and I feel like that’s overlooked.)

But why on Earth did they take a child with no fighting ability whatsoever on the quest when there were at least a dozen other hunters with decades of experience?

In conclusion, if you blame Percy for Bianca’s death, I don’t trust you.

Like, it’s fine to validate Nico’s feelings about it, but there was so much more going on and that’s what made it a tragedy.

How come Apollo, the proclaimed "arrogant self-centered jerk" was kind and sympathetic to Nico while everyone else thought of him as scary, did everything to save a young girl he just met who also betrayed him, tried running into the woods alone to find his children, stabbed himself in the heart and risked his godhood to save his friends, ran in to help Frank despite being near completely unarmed and on the verge of zombification death, and made sure to personally visit Every. Single. One. of the people who helped him during his trials. Yet Percy, whose fatal flaw is supposed to be loyalty, debated leaving Nico in a jar to die and didn't even get an onscreen reunion with his best friend who he's meant to have an empathy link with or his own mother who was worried sick about him

Percy and Nico are straight. Reyna is aphobic. There’s literally no evidence they’re bi/gay/ace. And Annabeth is toxic. Will is a filler character for the SJWS. There is Solid evidence for my claims.

It literally isn't mentioned anywhere that Percy is straight, leaving his sexuality up to the reader's interpretation, but, it is explicitly mentioned that Nico is gay in chapter 10 of Tower of Nero, so this means you're either homophobic or you can't read

As for Reyna, Rick has also explicitly mentioned that she's a romantic ace, therefore making your argument of her being aphobhic nonsensical

"interpreting the text as you wish" isn't a free pass for homophobia, biphobia of aphobia btw, you seem kind of dumb so I'm just putting it here

"Annabeth is toxic" more like she's a teenager who's not perfect, have u ever met a teenager in ur life?

"Will is a filler character for whatever that is" maybe he's a filler character BUT he's my favorite filler character 💕

and I'm also expecting to see your "solid evidence" btw

How old is will solace in blood of olympus?

His appearance reminds Nico of Jason Grace in The Blood of Olympus. He typically dresses casually in a T-shirt and shorts. Rick Riordan has stated that Will is in Nico's age group, making him about 15 years old.

How old is Nico di Angelo at the end of trials of Apollo?

Nico di Angelo is a 15-year-old Italian-born Greek demigod, the son of Hades and Maria di Angelo. He is a main character in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians, The Heroes of Olympus, and The Trials of Apollo series of books and the protagonist of The Sun and the Star: A Nico di Angelo Adventure.
