Use these steps to complete the first use configuration and device activation for your iPhone.

Activation process

Before the iPhone can be used, it must first be activated and configured to work on the T-Mobile network. The device activation is a two step process:

1. Device unbricking: Allows access to the phone menus
2. Carrier update: Enables key network features and auto configures network settings.

Device activation can be completed using one of two methods. See below for the detailed steps. iPhones sold through T-Mobile come with the correct SIM card pre-installed. The SIM card number is located on the back of the box.

Device activation using iTunes (tethered):

Ensure you have the latest version of iTunes and your computer has access to the internet before starting these steps.

1. Power on the iPhone and wait until the device stops searching for signal. This can take up to 90 seconds.
2. Open iTunes and connect the bricked device to computer using the cable included in the box.
3. Complete the onscreen instructions on both the computer and the iPhone until device activation is complete.
4. Disconnect the iPhone.

Using this method will automatically install the T-Mobile Carrier update.

Device activation using the iOS Setup Assistant (Wireless thru a Cellular or Wi-Fi network):

It is recommended to complete this process over a Wi-Fi network (if available).

1. Power on the device.
2. Press the Home button to begin.
3. Select your language from the list.
4. Select your country / region from the list.
5. Choose a Wi-Fi network and, if prompted, enter the password then tap Join. If Wi-Fi is not available, tap Use Cellular Connection.
6. If the device is Activation Locked, enter the Apple ID and password.
7. Choose to enable or disable location services and tap Next.
8. Choose to setup Touch ID now or later and/or create a passcode.
9. Choose one of the following and tap Next:
   • Restore from iCloud Backup
   • Restore from iTunes Backup
   • Set Up as New iPhone
   • Move Data from Android
10. Follow the onscreen instructions to create / sign into an Apple ID, sign into iCloud, or connect to your computer.

Activate mobile phone

You need to activate your mobile phone before using it for the first time and after a factory reset. Before you can activate your mobile phone, you need to insert your SIM into your mobile phone.

Slide your finger upwards starting from the bottom of the screen.

Tap the required language.

Tap the required country or area.

If your SIM is locked, key in your PIN and tap OK. The default PIN is 0000.

If an incorrect PIN is entered three times in a row, your SIM will be blocked. To unblock your SIM, you'll need to key in your PUK. The PUK can be obtained by contacting Customer Service. Please note: If an incorrect PUK is entered ten times in a row, your SIM is blocked permanently. In this case, you'll need a new SIM from Optus.

Follow the instructions on the screen to transfer content from another device running iOS 11 or later or tap Set Up Manually.

Tap the required Wi-Fi network.

Key in the password for the Wi-Fi network and tap Join.

If there are no available Wi-Fi networks, you can use the mobile network instead.

Follow the instructions on the screen to turn on use of Face ID or tap Set Up Later.

Follow the instructions on the screen to turn on use of phone lock code or tap Don't Use Passcode.

If you turn off the function, tap Don't Use Passcode.

Tap Don't Transfer Apps & Data and follow the instructions on the screen to finish the activation.
