How to get Manic Panic out of hair Reddit

so i was doing some test strands in my hair of manic panic vampire red (some mixed with fuschia shock, some mixed with dare forbidden grape, and some just straight vampire red)

couldn’t achieve the colour i want but all my test strands have become a chunk of brightly coloured hair that i want gone (also some bits got elsewhere so i have random pink patches now lol)

ANYWAY how would one remove bright manic panic colours from hair that’s already been bleached (level 10 or 9) WITHOUT doing a bleach bath? i’ve tried washing with anti dandruff shampoo but that didn’t achieve too much, any suggestions?

Blue is really hard to get out. Just going to put that out there right now.

First, you'll want to wash your hair to get as much of the color out as possible. You can try some Head and Shoulders, as the active ingredient in that shampoo will strip color out of your hair. You could also try mixing baking soda into the shampoo and that will also help lighten the color. The baking soda trick is what I use if chlorine turns my very light blonde hair a shade of green if I didn't wash it fast enough.

After washing as much out as you can, you'll have to see how bad the blue is. You may have to get a blonde color that has some gold in it to even out the blue. The best thing to do is after washing out as much as you can, post a picture or go to a shop like Sally's and ask the person working what their advice would be. If the blue is being very persistant, you might have to do an orange rinse to counteract the blue. If the blue is very light, you may just have to dye the blonde over the blue and it will be fine.

Good luck! Blue is extremely hard to work with...

Color removers aren't designed for semi permanent color, so you likely won't get good, consistent results on Manic Panic. A bleach bath/bleach wash is probably your best bet. A low volume developer and a short amount of time will keep the damage to a minimum.

If you want to avoid bleach altogether, just stick to doing everything you would avoid to keep your color vibrant. Go swimming in chlorinated water, wash your hair with hot water and clarifying shampoo, and let it fade in the sun.

Hi,

So my natural hair is black (dark, thick Asian hair) and I went through the long and painful process of dyeing it platinum/white blonde. In the spur of the moment, I decided to get "Manic Panic Lie Locks" to achieve a light lavender tint.

I mixed it with conditioner to make it lighter, but when I washed it out it basically turned out blue. It didn't come out exactly the way I wanted it.

I was wondering if anybody has any advice on to how to get back to my platinum blonde WITHOUT bleaching it. Any homemade remedies, fading techniques, color strippers, etc. I'm desperate.

Thanks in advance!!

There's a color remover I bought on Amazon that doesn't have bleach but was effective for me on getting some stubborn pink out. It smells bad and itches, but worked well and didn't damage my hair. I think it was called color exchange? Comes in a little black packet.

Otherwise, I know that baking soda mixed into your shampoo gives it extra clarifying power (but may damage your hair) and vinegar also can help fade dyes.

General advice: The thing to be the most careful about are strong bleaches on red tones-- they will lift the pigment of your natural color before they get to the red, due to the size of the pigment molecules. That goes for anything that has even the faintest hint of red in it. And that's how I went from deepest indigo to neon pink in one day.

HELP!

Okay, so, I've tried a lot of things, dish soap, powder soap, shaving cream, head and shoulders, and I only got it to look like a minty-ish turquoise (very pretty color actually, I just don't think it's working for me) http://imgur.com/a/HJCof

But I'm stuck on that shade since a few days ago, I've had it for 2 weeks, and I had washed it daily with head and shoulders, but it didn't seem to do anything to the color, so I started trying those other methods.

I bleached my hair for the first time ever a month ago, and went through to an almost white blonde, and used blue steel and when it went away, a bit of cotton candy pink mixed with dreamsickle, both were light colors so they washed away pretty easily, around 5 days each. I didn't know blueish colors would be this hard to wash out. I'd like to go back to blue steel, but I'm sure it won't work with this pretty mint underneath.

What can I do to get it back to a white/blonde tone?

I used Arctic Fox and it has given minimal staining for me(the worst is towels and shirts I wear while sweating after a recent dye). Maybe look into them! Sorry I cannot help more with your issue.

i love love love manic panic but i just started using it again and i’m fed up with the staining! i suggest looking at good dye young, though i’m not sure if they have the color you’re looking for. i experienced wayyyy less staining with them than i did with manic panic.

I'll have to check them out, thank you!

Bleach cleaner and scrubbing

Nail polish remover and whatever the most cost effective bleach (the kind used on hair) are my best friends.

Edit: I also wash my hair in my kitchen sink that doesn't stain.

Bleach. Colored hair usually requires a dark towel. Be careful wit the bleach, there’s no coming back from a bleach spill💦

For the future, get an old bedsheet and use it to cover the floor and the counter. Manic Panic stains a lot during the rinse, but Arctic fox stains less, if at all (if you are interested in switching brands). When I lived at home with my parents, I used to lay down in the tub and rise with the tub faucet to reduce staining. I even once had my sister hose my head off in the yard.

See usually I dont have a problem because I go outside and rinse my hair but its winter in Wisconsin, which means 6 degree weather lol

I used Oxi Clean on my acrylic tub as well as on my porcelain sink. Turned out fine. Source: Used Artic Fox Purple Rain

Red stains like crazy! I switched to arctic fox and have minimal staining. But if you can bleach does wonders for white surfaces. Use an old t-shirt, dark towel and crappy pillow cases. And for non- white surfaces, acetone. I take a cotton ball or make up circle and rub it around on my counter tops. For my face and ears I use a makeup wipe.

Mr clean magic eraser for the tub

Scrubbing Bubbles bathroom bleach spray. I just spray it and let it soak for a while and it comes right off :)
