What is the best way to get rid of fantasy colors from your hair?

How to get purple out of hair without bleach

First, I want to clarify that it is important to differentiate what type of dye we are trying to eliminate.

For permanent and semi-permanent dyes, the best is dye remover.

For fantasy colors like purple, blue, and pink, we can employ various methods like continuously washing the hair, bleaching the hair, and color removers.

I’m going to explain each one to you step by step.

Bleaching to eliminate pink, purple, and blue colors from the hair

How to get purple out of hair without bleach

This is one of the most damaging ways you can use to eliminate the dyes from your hair.

It could be said that it’s the most desperate way because if there is something that I can be sure of, it’s that it won’t just eliminate the dye in your hair.

It will also dry out your hair so that it looks like straw, without shine, without life, and with split ends all over the place.

In many cases, the hair ends up gummy, and it’s very difficult to repair.

I don’t recommend this option in hair that’s very mistreated or damaged. It’s the last resort for those people that can’t wait for any more to get rid of the color they have in their hair.

To do it, you will need:

  • Bleaching powder
  • 30 volume developer
  • A non-metal recipient to prepare the mix
  • A pair of gloves
  • A paintbrush

Advice: the night before bleaching, apply coconut oil to your hair. This will minimize the damage the bleaching mixture does to your hair.

The next day, rinse with cold water.

Bleach mixture Application

Mix the bleach powder and the hydrogen peroxide in a 1 to 2 proportion, respectively.

Always on dry hair, start to apply the bleaching mixture to the end and the length of the hair and let it sit for twenty minutes.

When the time passes, apply the rest of the bleaching mixture to the roots.

Always apply to the roots last because there the color gets absorbed much faster.

Let it sit for 10 minutes.

Not one minute more nor one minute less!

Keep in mind that we are talking about chemicals that can even damage your scalp.

Finally, rinse the hair with cold water, assuring that you get out all the residue of the bleach mixture.

Remember that if you don’t rinse it all out, the mixture can continue to work on your hair.

Bleaching is a pretty dangerous process for inexperienced people.

I recommend that you leave it to a professional if you can’t wait any longer to get rid of the purple, blue, or pink tone in your hair.

Bleaching without Hydrogen peroxide

This is a much softer way than the previous, even the results, logically, are not the same, since it’s not as effective in regards to the time.

That means that the color won’t disappear 100%, but it’s less damaging for the hair.

The application is the same as in the previous method, including in the proportions. The only thing that changes is that when using hydrogen peroxide, you use warm water.

This method doesn’t completely eliminate the color, , but it will lighten it a lot without damaging the hair as in the case of bleaching with hydrogen peroxide.

Color Removers

These are pretty new products on the market.

It comes in the form of a kit and   you should follow the instructions to a “t.”

The process is pretty long, so when you decide to do it, you must stay calm and allow yourself a good amount of time.

Method of Application

  1. Wash the hair with the clarifying shampoo that comes in the kit.
  2. Let it dry naturally. Don’t use a hairdryer.
  3. Mix the two components that come in the kit.
  4. Apply it uniformly over your whole head, cover your head with a shower cap, and let it sit for an hour.
  5. Rinse with a lot of warm water and apply the conditioner that comes in the kit after.

If you want to eliminate fantasy tones with the least amount of damage to your hair, this could be a pretty interesting option because it gets rid of the purple, pink, and blue tones perfectly.

Now, a warning.

This product is not advisable for people that are sensitive to odors.

Since the product really smells like rotten eggs.

And I say that without exaggerating.

The bad odor even sticks around for a few days despite having gotten rid of the color.

Eliminate fantasy colors with Vitamin C

For this, you should buy vitamin C, which comes in powder form.

Elements to use:

  • 100 grams of vitamin C in powder form
  • Two or three tablespoons of your regular shampoo, if possible use a shampoo for damaged hair

Method of application

In a recipient, mix the vitamin C and shampoo well until there aren’t any lumps.

Wet your hair with the hottest water you can handle. This is to open the cuticles and so that the mixture works better.

Cover every millimeter of your hair with the mixture.

You must distribute it evenly and uniformly so that the color comes out evenly.

After, cover your head with a shower cap because as the product works, it can drip and stain your clothes.

You should let the mixture sit for about forty-five minutes.

After the time has passed, rinse your hair well.

And finally, apply a deep moisturizing mask because Vitamin C can dry out your hair.

Conclusions

Like you, there are many ways to get rid of purple, pink, fuchsia, or whatever color you want and all of them, absolutely all of them, can damage your hair.

I decided to go with this method because bleaching and hydrogen peroxide really scare me.

And although it smells horrible, I’m not that sensitive to smells.

I also noticed that although my hair looked dryer, in a week and after applying coconut oil when I could, I was able to replenish the moisture in my hair.

If the purple residue in your hair is pretty light, a clarifying shampoo may do the trick! Apply the clarifying shampoo to your hair just like regular shampoo, lather it up for a few seconds with your fingertips, and rinse it out. Repeat this 2-3 times to make sure you get rid of the tint.
