What does crowning do for a barrel?Crowning is done to protect the bore edge from dents and burrs should the muzzle strike against or be struck by a hard object. Rifling must be absolutely true at the end of the barrel for maximum accuracy and must be protected. The most popular type of crowning is the rounded type found on most rifles and pistols.
What is the crown on an air rifle? The crown is the end of the barrel, or the place at the muzzle that has the final influence upon the bullet as it transitions to ballistic flight.
What is a recessed crown?A recessed crown means the muzzle, the absolute end of the bore, is cut back from the absolute end of the barrel. This leaves a rim or protruding edge of barrel steel jutting a bit past the hole of the muzzle itself.
What is Crown muzzle?A barrel crown can be defined as the shaping of the point on a muzzle where the end of the bore intersects with the face of the end of the barrel. Different styles and shapes of crowns have evolved to meet specific shooting needs.
