How to reset apple watch series 2 too many passcode attempts

I put my Apple Watch in my pocket at work and now it’s stuck on “too many passcode attempts reset and pair again” screen.

I know the passcode, it’s not giving me any option to enter it.

I tried to reset if via the iPhone app but it says it failed and now the app has completely forgotten about it.

I am trying to reset it by holding the button in, but it always reboots rather than giving me the shutdown screen. I am doing this while the charger is connected.

Per the instructions I am not touching the crown, the crown button isn’t stuck in, it’s not dirty, theres no lotion on it.

I still cannot get into my watch.

Thoughts anyone ?
