smaller homes or in manufactured homes where this distance cannot be maintained, install the Alarm as far away as possible from the furnace or other fuel burning source. Choosing a replacement battery: WARNING:
Actual battery service life depends on the Smoke/CO Alarm and the environment in which it is installed. All the batteries specified above are acceptable replacement batteries for this unit. Regardless of the manufacturer’s suggested battery life, you MUST replace the battery immediately once the unit starts “chirping” (the “low battery warning”).

How do I know if my First Alert smoke carbon monoxide detector is working?Testing with the "Test" button helps ensure that your alarms have a reliable power source. Instructions: While wearing ear protection, press the Test/Silence button until you hear the test sequence. The test button is usually found on the side or top of your unit.
Why is my First Alert smoke and carbon monoxide detector beeping?1 Beep Every Minute: Low Battery. It is time to replace the batteries in your carbon monoxide detector. 5 Beeps Every Minute: End of Life. This type of chirp indicates it is time to replace your carbon monoxide alarm.
How do you reset a First Alert carbon monoxide detector?A First Alert Carbon Monoxide Alarm cannot be reset using the test - silence button. To reset the alarm, the unit needs fresh air and time to burn the contamination off the sensor. Push and hold the silence button for 5 seconds to silence the alarm while contamination is being burned off the sensor.
How do I know if my smoke detector is working?But it's important to test the alarms once a month to make sure they're working properly. Carefully hold two or three lit matches together and then blow out the flame. Hold the matches so that the smoke drifts up towards the smoke alarm. If the detector is working, the alarm will go off.
