Samsung manufactures a variety of phones featuring touch-screen functionality. Because touch screens are highly sensitive, they're often designed with a screen lock to prevent numbers from being inadvertently dialed or applications from opening when the phone is in your pocket or purse. Samsung phone models vary, so you may need to try several different procedures to unlock the touch screen. Many Samsung phones prompt you to create a four-digit unlock password when you initially configure the phone. If you've enabled a password, you will need it to unlock the phone.

Unlock Samsung Galaxy S II

Step 1

Press any button on the Samsung Galaxy S II if the phone is in standby mode. The screen responds and lights up.

Step 2

Press the “Power” button and then slide your finger from left to right over the pattern.

Step 3

Type the four-digit password at the password prompt to unlock the phone.

Unlock Other Samsung Phones

Step 1

Press any button on the Samsung phone if the device is in standby mode. The screen responds and lights up.

Step 2

Press the "Menu" button. The four-digit password prompt should appear. If this prompt window does not open, proceed to the next step.

Step 3

Press the “Call” or “Talk” button. If the four-digit password prompt window does not open, proceed to the next step.

Step 4

Press the “Right” soft key. If the four-digit password prompt window does not open, proceed to the next step.

Step 5

Press the “Left” soft key. If the four-digit password prompt window does not open, proceed to the next step.

Step 6

Press the “Volume” button. The four-digit password prompt window opens.

Step 7

Enter your four-digit password at the prompt to unlock the Samsung phone.

Accidentally calling someone or sending a message full of gibberish when your phone is in your pocket or bag can be embarrassing. Luckily, your phone has a feature that prevents pocket dials. It’s called Accidental touch protection, and it keeps your screen inactive when the phone is in a dark place so no phone calls or messages are inadvertently made.

Since you probably keep your phone in your pocket or bag most of the time, you should turn on Accidental touch protection. This will prevent any accidental screen touches while your phone’s stashed away.

From Settings, search for and select Accidental touch protection. Tap the switch next to Accidental touch protection to turn this feature on. Now you can have peace of mind throughout the day.

If you are in a particularly dark place and need to use your phone, just swipe the lock icon to the left or right to dismiss Accidental touch protection.

On the Galaxy Z Flip you can also turn off the "Fingerprint always on" setting to avoid being locked out by accidental fingerprint touches. Navigate to and open Settings, and then search for and select Fingerprint always on. If you already have a fingerprint saved, you can disable the feature by tapping the switch next to Fingerprint always on. Or, you can add and save a new fingerprint.
