I am Right Where I Belong Kermit the Frog

"Right Where I Belong" from The Muppets Take Manhattan, is the opening number from Manhattan Melodies, the film's musical-within-a-musical. It is not performed until the end of the movie, however, though many earlier scenes feature Kermit getting interrupted when he's about to sing it.

Kermit sings "Right Where I Belong" after he has been karate chopped by Miss Piggy, who he insulted with pig jokes while still suffering from amnesia and thinking that he was Phillip Phil.

When he wakes up, Kermit finally remembers his true identity but is surprised to discover that he is backstage on the opening night of his musical Manhattan Melodies. Although he at first insists that show is still missing something and not ready for Broadway, when he sees the myriad Muppets that Fozzie, Gonzo, Scooter, Rowlf, and The Electric Mayhem have brought back to New York City, he realizes that what Manhattan Melodies has been missing all along was "more frogs and dogs and bears and chickens and whatevers."

As Kermit's memory comes back to him, he begins to sing "Right Where I Belong" and is joined by the entire cast as he works his way onstage, where the song turns into the opening number of Manhattan Melodies.

Miss Piggy: (spoken): Kermie--do you remember the opening number?

Kermit: You mean...

Look at me, here I am

Right where I belong

I see that face coming back to me

Like an old familiar song.

What better place could anyone be?

Cause you're here with me!

It's all I've been looking for

And so much more!

And now I'm here

Now you're here!

Cause I am here right where I belong!

[Musical bridge]

All:

Look at us!

Here we are!

Right where we belong!

The curtains' up and the lights are bright

And they're playing our old song!

(Electric Mayhem: Hey Kermit's back! Kermit!)

Kermit:

What better place could anyone be?

Cause you're here with me!

All:

So here we go!

Let's start the show!

But wait, that’s not all. As it turns out, just yesterday the Muppets appeared in a new video on Vrbo’s official TikTok account, featuring the same song:

@vrbo The Muppets gang’s all here! Now it’s your turn to show us your people. Enter the #AVrboForTogether ? Right Where I Belong – The Muppets

That’s right: The Muppets are TikTok’ing Vrbo! Now there’s a sentence that barely sounds like English.

Are Ernie and Kermit the same voice?

Since November 1990, Whitmire has performed not only as Kermit but also as Ernie and dozens of other Muppet characters. Speaking as Kermit in an Australian interview in 1996, Whitmire was asked what it was like to work without Henson. “It's different,” Kermit, voiced by Whitmire, said.
