Ipad pro 11 vs 12.9 for note taking reddit

Comes down to what is acceptable to in a mobile take everywhere device. My M1 12.9" for me is a tad too big and bulky in classes, work, coffee shops,lounges,train,plane,bus,etc... Specifically need enough bag room for it and isn't really hand holdable tablet. My Surface Pro 6 is 12.3" and hits the ceiling tiles on what I consider portable enough and less problematic then my 12.9". The majority will appreciate the 11" as about perfect for hand holdable take anywhere tablet. Especially for specific note-taking situations.

Don't get me wrong I love my 12.9" for it better multi-tasking side-by-side apps and bigger screen for textbooks, schematics and blueprints,Magazines and Comics. And bigger screen for media and gaming. I mostly went 12.9" for Art creation and for Magazines,Comics and Scientific textbooks. On a table or on couch with legs crossed or on couch arm is fine. Tho not bed friendly at all.

Hi everyone!

I actually have the iPad Pro 10.5 and I love my iPad but I really want to be paperless and I feel like my screen is maybe a little too small. I can still do really great notes with goodnotes, but if I split my screen to watch a video on one side and write notes on the other side I feel like it’s a like bit awkward so I watch the video on my laptop and take notes in my iPad 😂. Also, I always need to zoom to have quite beautiful note which not optimal. I know that the 12.9 is probably better for handwriting notes but it’s sooooo big and heavy... not sure if it’s the best solution. Does the 11 inch is enough for taking notes ? Do you have any tricks that I don’t know ?

It’s actually back to school promo :) I also saw 20% on the 12.9 inch 2020 iPad Pro refurbished.

Thank you so much !

I use the 11 inch to take notes and read notes: both written and typed. And it works well for me. But I have to admit, when multitasking/split view (opening textbook/journals at one side) and making notes on the other side, it does look a bit smaller, but I’ve gotten used to it. And I have a 22” monitor I connect it to, so that helps when I am at home. And my Ipad is not the only device I own, have a laptop as well, so I go back and forth making notes on both devices.

I think it comes down to how much you prioritize portability. The 11” is very portable, it is also easier to carry and hold up, the 12.9 is a little bit clunky. hence I can compromise on the smaller screen.

But if you’re not always on-the-go, you can consider the 12.9”

Hi. I'm going to go to college in like 1 month and I'm planning on getting an IPad Pro. Originally, I thought of getting Samsung Galaxy Tab S8+, Samsung Galaxy Tab S8, or the IPad Air for the cheaper prices for my mom to pay, but she said she prefers for me to get an IPad Pro, regardless of the size or price.

I'm planning on majoring in either CS or Computer Engineering. Regardless of either major, I know that both require me to take a lot of math and science classes for my freshman year and that'll require a lot of notetaking and getting textbooks. I am, however, questioning what size I should choose(11 in or 12.9 in).

My main use for the IPad Pro is really for notetaking, reading textbook pdfs, annotating, and being able to take it around all over my school, basically as a replacement for a notebook and buying textbooks as I don't want to carry a lot of heavy things anymore and don't want to use a lot of money on getting textbooks that my college requires which would cost way more per year than having a tablet that can be used for all 4 years while getting textbook pdfs and annotating those which can be way cheaper.

I'll also watch videos here and there but that's about it. It's not really going to be my main device, and I'm not really in any ecosystem as I have a Windows Laptop and Samsung phone but I also have a Macbook Air that was given to me by the college, which is why I'm questioning whether I should get the 11-inch or 12.9-inch since it won't really be my main device.

I've read that the 12.9-inch would be better for notetaking and reading/annotating textbook pdfs and such. But I question the point in having a 12.9-inch if I also have a windows laptop and a MacBook Air. I read that the 11-inch would be better in terms of portability and will be $200 cheaper, but I can't really see the portability being an issue with the 12.9-inch since it's really not that crazy big to make things uncomfortable to bring with, and I worry whether an 11-inch would be a bit problematic for me in taking notes or reading/annotating textbooks compared to the 12.9-inch.

Edit: Hi everyone. After going to the Apple store to check which size I would prefer and discussions with my family, my mother and I decided on getting the IPad Pro 12.9. Thank you everyone for all the advice and help.

Is 12.9 iPad too big for note

12.9 inch variant gives you a larger room for writing and the keyboard (if you plan to buy it) will be more spacious and comfortable to type on. However, the 11 inch variant is already large enough for note taking so if you don't mind having a slightly smaller display size then the 11 inch will work just fine.

Is 11 inch iPad too small for note

On top having a larger screen to take notes with, taking notes with a textbook/presentation and a note-taking app opened is much easier with the 12.9-inch model. That's not to say that the 11-inch model is bad for note-taking. In fact, I would argue that in some cases, the 11-inch model is actually better.

Is 11 or 12.9 iPad better?

If you need the additional display real estate or highly value the HDR capabilities of the XDR display, then it's worth spending the extra to get the 12.9-inch version for the best iPad experience.
