Iphone 13 vs pixel 6 reddit

So I've been a pixel user for the last 3 years and an android user for awhile now. I believe the last iPhone I had was the iPhone 6 when it released. Idk what it is but is anyone feeling a bit bored? Don't get me wrong I love my pixel (have the 5) and was planning on upgrading to the 6. But the 13 got me thinking do I try it or would I regret it? I plan on waiting till the pixel 6 is out and the reviews come etc. I big issue for me is price. Here in Canada you can finance through Apple now (this is fairly new) I'm hoping that google Canada will do the same with the launch of the 6. My other issue is google just isn't making premium small phones anymore so the 13 mini is intriguing. Anybody else had the thought? Would love to start a conversation. Cheers!

Switched from an iPhone 12 Pro Max to Pixel 6 Pro. I was motivated to switch primarily by Apple's idiotic CSAM debacle. There was also the feeling that iOS was becoming stale, unsophisticated, and lacked basic phone freedom. Android is way smarter than iOS and Android is more sophisticated.

Problem is when I switched to P6P back in October, I had signal issues, massive battery drain, the phone would get immensely hot to the point where it's difficult to hold, and I would honestly get like 2-3 hours screen on time. Totally unacceptable. Things have improved a bit, but my phone still gets hot especially if I'm playing any kind of video. On iPhone, I could literally be on my phone all day and my phone wouldn't even get warm and I'd still have battery life to spare. This entire experience has made me feel like Google doesn't give a shit about their phones. They don't care about user experience; they don't care about the experience from customer support.

I will be switching back. Apple won, they know how to make and support a phone.

I have seen many reviewers mentioning that the Pixel 6 or Pixel 6 pro take better night time photos than iPhone 13. However I have just bought the Pixel 6 to use for my android development and use it alongside my iPhone 13 and have simply seen sharper night time photos from the iPhone. Even though the Pixel has a 50 mp binned sensor it takes longer to take the night time photos and therefore it is not as sharp as the iPhone. On the iPhone you can choose how long the shutter stays open, however on the pixel this is not possible and night sight is done automatically. On a tripod the results are much closer than this, but still the iPhone is sharper. The only time the pixel wins is when you force astrophotography mode when the light is low enough, you can put your hand in front of the camera set the focus to infinity and when astro mode is initiated press the shutter and take your hand away from the lens quickly. This works great if it is low light enough and beats the iPhone in some scenarios, since the shutter stays open for 4 minutes or so. However this only works if it the light is low enough and in the scenario I have posted above it would not work since it would blow the highlights of the object. The iPhone has a maximum shutter of 30 seconds with the default camera app.

I should add that these were done handheld in the situation most people would use and in the default settings with the main lens, the highest quality lens.

So I need honest opinions and advice I’ve had a pixel 6 since day one. I have enjoyed it but lately I’ve been having a ton of stutter, bugs, etc. I have recently got an iPhone 13 pro and not sure which phone I want to return.

Only real downside for my pixel 6 is the stutters and bugs.

But one of the most annoying things on the iPhone is that I can’t use google photos as a default photos app in the sense of my iPhone seeing it which I have realized I’ve taken for granted with my pixel.

Anyone try out both and have opinions?

Thank you all

Thank you all for your help. Well, I am still undecided. I am a simple user of my phone, currently, I still have Huawei P20 which in my opinion is a great phone, but I want to switch to 5G and a better camera.

As I said, I am Android user, but I have also MacBook Air, and Windows 11 notebook, so I can go either way.

Well, it will be a tough decision.

My concern is about Pixe 6 lag and stuff..

....and returned it after 3 days (for a pixel 6). Long post but if you're considering a switch it's probably worth a read!

I returned it because iOS notifications suck, that notch, can't set different maps or music apps as defaults, and iOS settings are a shit show. Also the photos were always warm IMO, though to be fair I only tested the camera indoors under warm LED lighting. It was a nice piece of hardware, and battery life was better than the Pixel 6 I wound up with. I like that you can get the Pro features in the iPhone without upsizing the device. The 13 pro is almost exactly the same as the Pixel 3 I'm retiring (which IMO is the perfect size). I also think car play is organized a bit nicer than Android Auto, but none of that was enough to overcome the issues I listed. Also carplay lists albums alphabetically instead of chronologically, which my OCD can't accept.

I've been on Android since my first smart phone (OG Moto Droid that I got on launch day) and have been happy with it, until Android 12. I think it's ugly and the quick toggles have been butchered. I hate the material u color scheme BS, so I decided to give the dark side a look. I really wanted to like the iPhone (most of my friends and family are on them) but I guess I have Android too deep in my blood to accept the iOS downsides.

What steered me away from the Pixel 6 at first was my previously noted Android 12 complaints, the physical size, the lesser battery life (after a few days of ownership it's noticeable, and I'm concerned it will be an issue as it ages), and the fact that you can't get the pro features in the smaller phone size. I don't need/want a tablet in my pocket, I value handling and portability more than a large screen. One thing I didn't note at the store (since the demos are all tethered) is how top-heavy the camera bar is. I have to carefully balance the Pixel 6 in my hand. To be fair I think the iPhone was the same way, but I can't remember for sure.

Overall I'm happy with my new Pixel 6 and I can certainly live with my Android complaints (which are pretty minor to be honest). I'll look forward to the Pixel 7 and upgrade if it's right. I'm also glad I tried the iPhone, now I have a more informed viewpoint on why I prefer Android.
