Is Arctic Fox hard to bleach out?

Fans of pastel and other "unnatural" hair colors know the sad truth: You typically need to have light hair for those hues to make an impact. While some deeper colors will show up on dark hair, for the most part, those who want any kind of rainbow fantasy shade have to go through the bleaching process. That's why Arctic Fox hair color is finally launching a lightening kit called Bleach, Please.

Though there are other types of hair bleach on the market, fans of Arctic Fox have been waiting for the brand to release its own version since its conception back in 2014. Beauty influencer Kristen Leanne launched the vegan and cruelty-free brand as a nod to her love for both animals and colorful hair. “When our hair-color line first launched, we focused on semi-perm hair color and put everything into making it the best it could be, but fast-forward a few years, we knew the next step was to produce additional vegan products that inspire self-expression, without damaging hair or putting animals at risk,” says Leanne.

The Bleach, Please kit has basically everything you need to lighten your hair in preparation for pinks, purples, platinums, or anything in between. Included in the kit are a vegetable-based cream bleach, a developer, and a pair of latex-free gloves.

The bleach, which lightens up to eight levels, is made without beeswax, which some hair-care brands sneak in for moisture. Still, most bleach actually is animal product–free. What it's not, often, is cruelty-free. But as with all Arctic Fox hair colors, this bleach is made in Southern California with non-GMO, plant-based proteins, and no animal testing. The bleach also contains a violet base to help cool down yellow tones, though a brass-banishing toner and purple shampoo will help too.

You probably know bleach can wreak havoc on your hair, so the brand added natural ingredients to the developer to help minimize them. Mango and cocoa seed butter work to soothe the scalp and strands, açaí helps strengthen hair, and papaya fruit extract can help improve circulation at the hair follicle. That doesn't mean your hair is going to be magically saved, though. You still need to follow up bleach with weekly conditioning masks, as well as protein treatments such as Olaplex and L'Oréal Professionnel Smartbond.

Still, lightening your hair at home is a lot more difficult than trying a semi-permanent color like Arctic Fox's other shades. The darker your natural hair, the harder it will be to lift and the biggest risk you'll run for damage. This is especially true if you have color-treated hair to begin with. But if you already do your own hair or you have a pro who can help, Arctic Fox's Bleach, Please could be a great option to lighten up your crown. Plus, there's a charitable component perfect for animal lovers: The company gives back by donating 15% of its profits to prevent animal cruelty, through charities including Second Chance Animal Services and International Fund for Animal Welfare.

“We are beyond thrilled to launch our DIY-friendly bleach kit. It is packed with natural strengthening, nourishing, and rejuvenating ingredients and has everything you need to make it an easy process," says Leanne. "We worked so hard on this and can’t wait to see the fun looks our Fox Fam creates."

Is it dark or light? This starting point is going to allow you to get the best results. If your hair is light brown you will want to stick with deeply pigmented shades like Wrath, Purple Rain, etc and avoid pastel colors and or the lighter blues and greens in general.
  • Does your hair already have color in it? So with semi-permanent color like Arctic Fox Hair Color, if your hair is blue and you’d like to go red without bleaching - you can transition to a purple before you go red to make sure you don’t get any unwanted pigment interactions.
  • Are you wanting to lighten it? If so you’ll need to do that prior to applying color! If you have a specific color in mind, you can look at the hair level charts on the product pages for a guide to how light you’d need to be to get your desired shade!
  •  2. What is the current health of your hair?

    1. The more your hair has been processed the more likely it is to be damaged, however, that’s not always the case. Everyone’s hair is different! This means that for some people - certain colors will last a lot longer. Since an open cuticle can hold color better, pre-lightened hair will absorb color the best. But if your hair is too damaged it can be a challenge holding the color and it may not last as long. So even if your hair is very light blonde you may want to choose a color a few shades darker than your desired tone to get more out of the process! For example, a color like Girls Night can be punched up with a few drops of Purple Rain giving it a little extra pigment and longevity. Alternatively, pre-lightened hair does hold on to the color longer when it comes to getting back to blonde so if you do want to go back to blonde after your color you will want to stick to lighter, warmer tones in general or use our Arctic Mist Diluter to soften up shades to ensure they don’t stay too long!

    3.  What color do I want to achieve? What color will it fade to?

    1. If you’re wanting a gorgeous deep teal but you’re unsure about the fade, you’ll want to think about your hair color now and the base color of the dye. Most AF shades dilute to the color they fade to but if they fade to an ice blue and your hair is yellow-toned blonde, you’ll end up with a green tinge which most people don’t want. However, there is a way to cover that up! So have a plan; if you know it will fade green then you can go purple afterward to help color correct any unwanted tones!

    4.  How do I care for my hair before and after I color it?

    1. Before you apply Arctic Fox you’ll need clean and dry hair so make sure you rinse with shampoo only (no conditioner) and fully dry the hair before application. Afterward, you’ll want to make sure you know how to care for your color! Rinse with cold water, use sulfate-free and silicon-free products and more. Find out more in our Color Care Tips HERE.
    2. If you are going to bleach your hair make sure you are caring for your hair beforehand! You’ll want the hair to be conditioned with some natural oils (so not freshly washed) and you don’t want to brush hair just before bleaching or you can create tiny microscopic cuts that can cause irritation. Do your research on how to care for your hair before, during and after! If you do apply Arctic Fox Hair Color just after you bleach your hair it will help to condition the hair which is key!

    5.  How worth it is a strand test?

    1. Okay, you probably won’t ask yourself this but strand testing is SO crucial. Most of us are happy to slap on our color and settle for however it turns out but if you’re cocktailing colors it is especially helpful. Choose a tiny piece of hair close to the nape of your neck and test your shade! Then, you can see if you need to add a darker color for more pigmentation, lighten it for a softer tone or choose a different one if you don’t love it! This is the best way to get the color you want and get great results every time!

I used the AF virgin pink on hair that I had lightened to a light/medium brown. I was amazed at the vibrant color that showed up. I loved it. I did it back on Thanksgiving weekend (2020) and here I am at the end of February 2021 and it’s just starting to really wear out. I’m left with a really unique and awesome highlighting appearance.

i’m a virgin to af, my aquamarine and purple rain are arriving today & i can’t wait! I’ve got level 3-4 natural gray hair which has not been colored (the colored bits have all but grown out and cut) so it’ll be interesting to see the intensity! I’m growing out my undercut and it’s an almost bob at the mo…. will update here or on my IG account of the same handle – i just need to have some fun with my hair.

I have dark brown hair and want to use your aquamarine or purple should I bleach my hair prior to using it?

I like how you mentioned that the starting point of your hair color allows you to reap the optimal results. My brother is thinking of looking for a hair coloring stylist because he’s considering getting blond highlights to make him look more stylish. I think it’s a good idea for my brother to consider going to a reputable professional that can help change his hairstyle if he decides to do so. https://www.thestationhairstudio.com/services

I have medium brown hair and I won’t some of the lighter colors and I don’t want to bleach it what should I do?

Does Arctic Fox bleach out easily?

Yes, you can use bleach to remove most hair dyes, including Arctic Fox.

Is Arctic Fox hard to remove?

But if you've ever wanted to change your dyed hair color on a whim, you know that removing it can be a real challenge. Arctic Fox hair dye has some serious staying power, so you've got to take some calculated steps to get it out of your hair.

Can you bleach hair with Arctic Fox?

The Arctic Fox Bleach, Please Complete Hair Lightening Kit can lift hair up to 8 levels (results may vary) and includes 35 Volume developer, premium vegetable-based cream bleach, and latex-free gloves to touch up your roots or take your lightening game to the next level.

How do you get Arctic Fox out of bleached hair?

Mix some Vitamin C in your clarifying shampoo, let the mixture sit in your hair for 5 min, and then rinse it out. Vitamin C is an acid which means that it has the strength to help break up semi-permanent hair molecules, in order to get them to fade faster.
