Is CYMA a good airsoft brand

I'm looking to buy my first AEG or two, I'm undecided on an M4 or AK style weapon, so I'm buying both, both are CYMA. I'm wondering if they are a reputable brand?

They seem fairly cheap, but have metal gearboxes, can you guys vouch for them? I've got a couple of gas blowback hi capas, one I've built myself, but I know next to nothing about AEGS!

The models I'm looking to purchase are:

M4 rifle, CM.508: http://www.taiwangun.com/en/electric/cm-508-cyma

AK rifle: http://www.patrolbase.co.uk/airsoft/cyma-cm-028u-ak47-tactical-w-folding-stock-black.htm#.Wev0t5_TXqA

Any pointers or recommendations to better budget AEGS would be fantastic. Thanks!

So, I've heard a lot of things about CYMA's. Usually either really good or really bad. Not much in between. Some say CYMA's are indestructible, some say that CYMA stands for "Crap You Must Avoid". I've only had one CYMA: the CM049 and that thing was a tank inside and out. Shot hard, accuracy was okay, and fire rate was really good for shooting over 400 FPS out of the box. Sadly and shockingly, it ended up lasting longer than my ICS CXP 15 did... So is CYMA definitely a brand to consider? I've only had one and it was completely stock, but performed pretty well. Has anyone had any good or bad experiences? I'm considering getting another...

Reviews on guns I've been browsing on evike/asgi/megastore/etc. That quote was only said once (I couldn't tell you which gun review it was for the life of me, been browsing a lot), but definitely more than one person has a negative opinion about them.

Heck I googled it and it came up on urban dictionary lol. 4 "definitions" of CYMA all in a bad name.

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Cyma

I definitely don't believe them to be as bad as they say, but like I said I've only had one of their guns. Freaking loved mine... Miss that beautiful thing.

But no, in all seriousness, those are people's opinions on CYMA. Like I said I hear both sides of the spectrum, just looking for more people's opinion. I'm seriously thinking about getting another cm049

I've had a few cyma guns, and i know a lot of guys that own some. Not once have I heard any actual owner of one say they were junk or not worth buying. Just like any other company, they will break eventually, but they seem to last longer in stock condition than a lot of guns double or triple the price.

I have heard people say they are junk, but never owned one because they are too cheap. Those statements have no weight to them and should be ignored. That is just those "elitist" guys slamming the gun because they spent way more on the gun they have, and most likely won't last as long as a stock cyma.

I have also heard some negative feedback from some of their older low end m4 rifles. But nothing major, just simple problems even expensive guns end up experiencing.

Yeah that makes sense, like I said mine was solid. Thanks for the clear up. I think I'm gonna get that mp5 again.. Hopefully the topic helps out other players as well. Already got some spare shims to throw in it.

Opinions which I do not trust one bit.

You have no idea how qualified these people are. Have they ever owned a CYMA in their life? Heck, do they even play airsoft?

Yeah, true. However they probably have owned the CYMA since the origin of the bad reviews were from websites like asgi and airsoft megastore where it will show if the reviewer is a "verified buyer". Started making me question whether or not they were a good brand. But then there's the people that bash other company's for fun like Zaryk was saying. I was about to buy the VFC line mp5 with 3 round burst but I may just play it cheap and get the CYMA for less than half the price.

I've only had one experience with CYMA, and it was with a 028. A friend bought it off eBay for around $60-100, after I had warned against it. Came with horrible packaging, no semi-auto function, loose selector, and no battery or charger. Extremely inaccurate, horrible range, etc. Then we threw a 9.6, 1600 mAh NIMH in it, and somehow that raised the accuracy and range considerably. And of course the rof. After about 3 game days, the gb jammed due to motor height. After fixing that, and using it some more, the AK completely died. I ended up having to replace all the plastic bushings with steel shs bushings. That seemed to fix it, but it continued to be a pain in the rump... The stock adapter broke (in storage), the charging handle snapped off, and the screw hole for the selector switch stripped out. Not to mention that it still wouldn't fire semi.

However. That gun was like 10 years old. Just sayin'. I wouldn't have ever bought it, but it did very well for a bottom of the line aeg... especially given that it was already used and abused when he bought it.

Yeah I wouldn't ever buy a used gun either unless I personally knew the person who's selling it. I just got that cm049 in and first impression is pretty good. I'll give an update after I actually take it to a field and test it.

I personally love buying used guns. The worse it functions, the cheaper I can get them for. But I will overhaul any gun I buy, no matter if it is new or used. Mostly because if it doesn't perform as well as my other guns, there really isn't any reason for me to field it.

Exactly. Most of the guns I've bought used perform as well, or better, than the brand guns I've bought.

When I got back into Airsoft last year from a long hiatus, I started back off with a CM-028s. Before that, I had never used an AK and I figured I wouldn't like it. However, Cyma changed my mind about them and I have liked using AK's since.

The CM-028s that I bought new for $83 from Evike works great and I still use it from time to time. Even thought the receivers and furniture are made from plastic, there are some parts on it that are made from metal such as the Outer Barrel, Dust Cover, Charging Handle, Bushings, etc. Awhile after I got it, I used it to reacquaint myself with teching and did the basic maintenance inside the Gearbox and Flat-hopped it. It still works great to this day and I enjoy using it.

I bought a used Contractor CM-028 about 7 months ago from AirsoftMegaStore for a cheap price and fixed that one up. I have since sold it, however, it worked great in the time I had it.

Most recently, I bought myself the CM-045a. For the price (I paid a little under $150 Shipped for it on AirsoftGI), This is one of my favorite replicas that I have owned. I honestly cannot think of anything bad about it from my time of owning it. For the price and for all that you get, I feel that it is a great deal. Especially with the VFC style take down, Metal Hop-up, Metal Ball-bearing Spring Guide, Stamped Steel Receivers etc., I don't think you can go wrong with it. It works and runs great after doing the basic maintenance inside the Gearbox and Flat-hopping it. I plan to keep this one and use it for as long as possible.

In the future, I'd like to get the CM-048. It won't be anytime soon, However, I'd like to be able to have another full size AK with a VFC style Take down, real wood furniture, and stamped steel receivers to work with.

I'm sure that people have had problems with Cyma's before. Nonetheless, I have yet to have any major issues with the ones I have owned and I'm glad for it. The only common issue that I've had with mine were compression issues inside the Gearbox. However, Getting proper O-rings, lubrication, and Air Nozzles with O-rings fixed them all up and gave me 100% compression. Typically, when I hear someone asking about a cheap and reliable replica to buy, I try to point them in the direction of the Cyma AK's. Mostly because, at least for me, they have proven to be exactly that plus more.

It's never been worth the money from what I've seen. People will try selling a $150 gun for say $120 after a year of use with the most descriptive thing they can come up with is that it's in "good condition". If I was more into teching I would consider buying broken guns for dirt cheap. But so far the most advanced thing I can do is shim and change the easy-to-get stuff like motors and barrels. I wish I had the knowledge to do some decent upgrades., I'll prob look out for some guides.
