Where to purchase: The Krave Collection is Available on Stylevana (UK): HERE/ (US): HERE / (AU): HERE / (CA): HERE / (GE): HERE / (FR): HERE

This is because Krave do not ship to the UK which is frustrating.

Price: £24.99 (it’s actually cheaper on the Krave website BUT because I have to purchase from a third-party, it’s much more expensive).

Volume: 120ml

What is it?: In my words: A cleanser that shouldn’t dry the skin out. No fragrance or essential oils. (Although I think this isn’t as hydrating as stated. When I cleanse with this, my face does feel a little tighter, I will explain more below).

In Krave Beauty’s words: ”An antioxidant cleanser that doesn’t ruin the skin’s barrier while cleaning the skin. At a good pH and provides hydration without irritating the skin.” – I agree as this didn’t irritate my skin (but can potentially dehydrate it).

Good for: I’d say more oily/normal skins but NOT dehydrated or VERY dry skins.

Packaging: Lush matte tube. Easy to squeeze out product.

Directions: ”Morning and night, apply Matcha Hemp Hydrating Cleanser on a wet face and neck, and gently massage into skin. Never be aggressive! Rinse with lukewarm water. Splashing cold or hot water can do more harm than good, so let’s not shock our skin. If makeup is present, using a suitable makeup remover before would be a skin-friendlier option.” – From the Krave Beauty Website.

How I use it: I do not cleanse in the morning (I simply wash with water, then pat my face dry and use a toner to swipe off any excess dirt. If I cleanse in the morning my skin feels very tight. So therefore I don’t use this cleanser in the morning and simply use it to remove my spf in the evening. I find if I cleanse more than once per day with this, my face becomes very dry – and that’s with all cleansers, not just this. And I agree that this wouldn’t be used as a makeup-removing cleanser.

Key Ingredients: Matcha (antioxidant). Hemp seed oil (high in essential amino acids and linoleic acid – to try and keep the skin hydrated). Hemp seed oil, apparently has ‘natural antibacterial properties – to help relieve inflamed skin conditions.’

The cleansing agents (surfactants): Coco -betaine, Coco-glucoside, Decyl glucoside are supposed to compromise the skin less than SLS. Although I find this cleanser a little stripping, I absolutely think it is less stripping than other foaming/gel cleansers.

Contains Vitamin B5 & Sodium PCA which help strengthen the skin barrier and replenish hydration.

I like that this contains oat kernel extract (oats are supposed to be soothing), Glycerin and Diglycerin (skin-dentical ingredient) and Panthenol is added to soothe.

Texture: This is like a jelly/jam when dispensing the product but it does foam up slightly when water is added.

You can see the texture of the product is llike a jam/jelly. You would think that this would make the product sticky and messy but it’s not!

Is Matcha Hemp Hydrating Cleanser gentle?

You can see there is foaming up with this product. Not to a ridiculous amount (thank goodness), but there is foaming. That does mean that this will give a good cleanse to the skin, but I do not think this is ideal for makeup/foundation removal. SPF removal – yes!

And I would say because of this mild foaming, this does have a tendency to strip the skin. DEPENDING on when I use this. if I use this product once a day then it’s fine, but if I wake up and cleanse with this, my skin feels dehydrated because there was no need to give it such a relatively thorough cleanse. That’s why if I use this, I cleanse once a day and I will cleanse just to remove my SPF/sweat from the day and that’s it. even then I have to be delicate and not have this product for too long on my face, I sort of rub it on and wash off relatively quick as the surfactants will get to work pretty quick.

What I like:

  • No irritation
  • removes my SPF
  • like the texture
  • Doesn’t foam up like crazy
  • No essential oils
  • No fragrance

What I don’t like:

  • My face doesn’t feel ‘hydrated’ after cleansing, if I didn’t put anything on my face after, it would feel dehydrated
  • I find this too stripping if I use it more than once a day

Overall Rating and Conclusion: 4/5 I think this is is a good cleanser! I like using it once a day, I don’t find it the most hydrating cleanser I’ve ever used, but it’s certainly not the most stripping or irritating. I am more of a balm/oil-type cleanser myself, so of course I would find a gel-foam cleanser more stripping than my DHC cleansing oil. Therefore I think oily greasy skins would prefer this over dry and very dry skins. I’m very happy that this doesn’t contains essential oils or fragrance and isn’t a really surfactant-heavy, horribly foaming cleanser. I will use it to completion, but I do find it drying.

I actually would recommend the DHC Cleansing oil instead (to double cleanse with, and if necessary, AM cleanse with) OR The Ordinary’s Squalane Cleanser which is fab – does not strip the skin as much as this cleanser did for me.

Would I repurchase?: No I wouldn’t. I think it’s a bit too drying/stripping for me. I do think for those who want a good clean, this’ll be right up their alley however. And of course I must consider the pH is decent and the fact that there is no added fragrance / EO – makes this product acceptable!

My Skin type: I am acne prone and have combo skin. My skin is usually tight where the cheeks and eye area is and the outer parts of my face. My T zone is oily. My skin isn’t a fan of thick/heavy formulas so I opt for lightweight formulas to prevent it from clogging up. My skin doesn’t like essential oils either and I try to avoid fragrance when I can.
