I get that it's the mascot so they want at least some chance, but this 200ish CP Pikachu just broke out of 5 great curve throws with great balls, and I was razz berrying it every time. That's a bit much. And yeah, I have my electric gold badge.

My sister's dog bit a hole in my Super Mario Land cartridge. It still works though - Skye Reynolds

Because it's a "starter" Pokemon, which means it must be arbitrarily more difficult to catch than most other things in the game barring legendaries.

No Pikachu Fan medal for me.

Micah Johnson did nothing wrong.

Yeah, drove me insane as well trying to get the Fan medal. Now that I've done that, I'm only going to bother with Pikachu for shiny checking as I find I waste too many balls on them.

I understand hiking up the difficulty a bit, but that's just too much.

Eh, I've never thought the starters were *that* hard. A curved excellent throw usually does the trick.

Well... yeah.

A lot of people have a hard time landing a curved excellent throw, especially on something with a smaller circle like all the starters. It's not as hard as a C/E on Weedle, Zubat, or a ghost type, but it's not something most can do frequently like on a legendary.

I think, for events where there’s a hat Pikachu, they should up the Pikachu catch rate. Pikachu has a 20% catch rate. To put that in perspective, Jynx, who is not only a fully evolved Pokémon but also a much better Pokémon in every way, has a 30% catch rate. Pikachu should have a 50% catch rate at least. It’s annoying how many balls you waste on them. At least this event sort of makes up for it by giving you 300 stardust per Pikachu, but that doesn’t make it any less tedious.

Pikachu is an Electric Pokémon and it is weak against Ground moves. Pikachu's strongest moveset is Thunder Shock & Wild Charge and it has a Max CP of 938. The Pokedex tells that every time Pikachu comes across something new, it has the habit of blasting it with his electricity. If you come across a blackened berry, it's evidence that this Pokémon mistook the intensity of its charge. Pikachu can either be a starter Pokemon or can even be caught out in the wild in Pokemon Go. Catching a Pikachu as Your Starter Pokemon

When you start a new game, you need to go away from the three starter Pokémon.
A Squirtle, a Bulbasaur, and a Charmander appear on your screen available for the catching.
Catching one of these will make the others disappear including Pikachu.
So, walk away from these Pokémon until they are out of sight.
Now you need to wait till these Pokémon reappear, then walk away again.
When you walk far enough away, the Squirtle, Bulbasaur, and Charmander will reappear on your map. Walk away from them again.
You need to do this three times and after you have rejected the three normal starter Pokémon three times, Pikachu will appear with them the fourth time.
Approach Pikachu to enter "capture" mode and catch it

Catching Pikachu in the Wild

Finding Pikachu in the wild is tough but its not impossible.
You can start by checking near power plants and also near science museums.
It is also highly possible to find Pikachu late night at 3am.
When Pikachu is near you, you will be able to see its silhouette appear in the sidebar in the bottom-right corner of your screen.
Checking the rustling grass is also going to help. If you see a Pikachu silhouette in your nearby list and then see rustling grass on your map then just go to the grass and a Pikachu may come out.
Tap on Pikachu to enter "capture" mode and catch it.

Pikachu is actually not too rare, at least in comparison to many Pokemon in Pokemon Go. He is electric type, so using that we can figure out a few spots to look. Try finding places around your current location that center around electricity.
