It may be Thanksgiving weekend, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get some new spooky content. Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, the seventh film in the Resident Evil horror movie franchise, opens in theaters this weekend, and it’s bringing with it all of that juicy blood, guts, and gore. Hope you saved some room!

Loosely based on the video game series of the same name, this new Resident Evil film will serve as a reboot of the film franchise that started with the 2002 film starring Milla Jovovich and Michelle Rodriguez. Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City features a new cast, including Kaya Scodelario as Claire Redfield, Hannah John-Kamen as Jill Valentine, Robbie Amell as Chris Redfield, Tom Hopper as Albert Wesker, Avan Jogia as Leon S. Kennedy, Donal Logue as Chief Brian Irons, Neal McDonough as William Birkin, and Lily Gao as Ada Wong. The movie is directed by Johannes Roberts, best known for the 47 Meters Down franchise.

Fans of the video game definitely won’t want to miss it, so here’s everything you need to know about where to watch Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City and when to expect Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City on streaming.

WHERE TO WATCH RESIDENT EVIL WELCOME TO RACOON CITY:

Right now, the only place to watch Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City is in a movie theater when it opens on Wednesday, November 24. You can find a showing at a movie theater near you here. After the movie’s theatrical run, you will be able to purchase the movie on digital platforms like Amazon, iTunes, Google Play, YouTube, and Vudu.

WHEN WILL RESIDENT EVIL WELCOME TO RACOON CITY BE STREAMING?

The short answer is: We don’t know. A digital release date for Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City has not yet been announced. Unlike other movie studios during the pandemic, Sony has not had a consistent digital release strategy during the pandemic. Sony’s last big movie, Venom: Let There Be Carnage, just recently released on digital platforms, about seven weeks after opening in theaters. If Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City follows a similar pattern, it may not be on VOD until mid-to-late January 2022.

The first place Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City will most likely go after its digital release—though it’s not guaranteed—is Starz, due to a pre-existing deal with the premium cable network. If Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City does go to Starz, it will most likely be 6 to 9 months after it opens in theaters, meaning late May 2022 to late August 2022. It would also be available on services like Hulu with the Starz add-on.

Disney also recently made a deal with Sony to bring Spider-Man and other Marvel properties to Disney Plus after the movies are released on Netflix—but that deal begins with Sony’s 2022 release slate, and Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City will release in 2021.

In other words, it may be a while before Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City is available to stream at home. If you can’t wait for the gory detail, you’ll want to go see this one in a movie theater.

WILL RESIDENT EVIL WELCOME TO RACOON CITY BE ON HBO MAX?

No. Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City is a Sony movie, not a Warner Bros. movie, and therefore Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City will not be on HBO Max at the same time it is in theaters.  HBO Max—which is owned by Warner Media—has been the streaming home for blockbuster Warner Bros. theatrical movies like Dune, but it will not be the streaming home for Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City. (At least, not any time soon.)

IS RESIDENT EVIL WELCOME TO RACOON CITY ON NETFLIX?

No. Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City is not on Netflix. While Netflix has signed some deals to stream some 2022 Sony films, Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City is a 2021 movie and will likely not be included in that. Therefore, it’s unlikely that Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City will be streaming on Netflix any time soon.
