r/ShouldIbuythisgame Show  I hate scary games as said in the title. So is Stanley's Parable scary? If it is a gray area, what about the game is "scary"? Pop out scary? level 2 It has a few moments where it could really take cheap scare shots at you, but gladly it never does. It's very very funny though. level 2 But at the same time, yes you should buy it if you enjoy story driven first person games. level 1 The Stanley Parable is not a scary game; it's more of a narrative adventure. Some games try to be interactive movies; the Stanley Parable is more of an interactive novel. So don't expect any jump scares or zombies! level 2 I thought the whole game that something was gonna pop out, it ruined the experience for me :-(. level 1 Nothing scary, you'll be fine. I'd say it's more comedy than anything. level 2 Ok, I enjoyed the hell out of the demo, and played a couple endings on the source mod. Should I play the source mod or will it ruin the fun of the new game? level 1 Do you consider Portal to be scary? It's a bit like that except you have a british guy's voice guide you through the silence.

Unless you have an weird irrational fear of charming narrators, go for it! EDIT: This post inspired me to try the demo of the full game. Turns out the demo is a completely separate experience from the main game. Not sure I've seen that before. It's also ridiculous. level 1 Its not scary. Its more of an intriguing game full of cliff hangers and decisions. level 1 It can be a tad bit unsettling at times, but it's far from scary. It reminds me of Portal but without any portals or puzzles. It's got the same sense of humor and a very similar atmosphere. level 1 The game is only as scary as existential topics like, "Does free will exist?" or "If we all die eventually, what's the point?" I actually just had to walk away from it because it "scared" me so bad by my own actions. tl;dr: Play it! r/PS4 I saw it costed low in the store, seemed interesting, and was rated E10+, so I’m really interested in buying. But I’m a major crybaby when it comes to horror-type stuff. Would this game be too much for me to handle? level 1 No it’s not even close to a horror game level 1 No it’s not a horror, More of a comedy that’s dark and twisted, Check YouTuber out called Atrioc, he’s done a few video on it, you may have to dig a little into his content, and it may spoil the game if you watch too much, But seriously it’s not a horror as you would imagine level 1 It is at worst existential horror, as in it I makes you question reality. It is not the jump scare or gore based horror. level 1 Some scary moments but nothing that would actually make it horror. The scariest thing I can think of is the fear of being alone (which is made up for by the narrator most times) and other small things. level 2 “Stanley went round in circles for no reason. Perhaps he had gone insane.” level 1 I didn’t find it to be a horror game. More like a mystery that you unravel a little more each time you play. level 1 Imo it is a funny game, but idk if one ending could be horror, but I doubt it, go for it. I played the game some years ago, if u really want to be safe maybe wait for someone that still remember everything. level 1 It is not outright horror like residential evil. But it can be so dark (even with the intended comedy tone and setup) that it can be quite a bit of horror in the sense of reflecting on oneself.... But in my opinion, it is interesting. level 1 It can feel unsettling but not in a horror or creepy way , which I know makes no sense unless you play it. It’s very smart, VERY weird game. Truly one of a kind, nothing has done what it does as well . It’s the Stanley parable, it has no definable tags level 1 When google doesn't exist for you even though you're clearly online. level 1 Definitely not horror. If you find it interesting, just stop being here and go for it, because if there's a game that HUGELY benefits from going into it blind, that's The Stanley Parable.
