I'd like to update my review, as well as offer an apology to the seller.
I originally left a one-star review along with a statement saying that the cards were fake, which I believed them to be. This was a mistake on my part. Upon further inspection, I can personally attest that the cards I received were, in fact, real. Again, I'd like to offer my apologies to the seller for my mistake. The product did, in fact, arrive in perfect condition and made a great addition to both my collection and my brother's collection.

Is surfing Pikachu a real Pokemon?

Hey guys, Psykl0ne here back at it again with the... what's wrong with me? Anyway, blog time yay!

As the mascot of the franchise, Pikachu is a Pokémon which receives more and attention than any other. This adorable little electric mouse is a main character in the Anime, has its own game (Pokémon Yellow), is the protagonist in several spin off games and has a custom cry in the games compared to the strange 16 bit sounds all the others make.

However, Pikachu itself has appeared in many different forms over its 20 year existence, and I don't mean form changes or evolutions. Pikachu has been customised more times than fashion designers pet poodle, being seen wearing hats for certain Pokémon Go events, a cosplayer in ORAS, and has been seen strapped to balloons and flying through the sky. The variant this blog will focus on is my personal favourite, Surfing Pikachu!

Origins

Is surfing Pikachu a real Pokemon?

The first time Surfing Pikachu was seen was the opening of Pokémon Yellow, where it is shown riding the waves like a pro surfer. However, this wasn't just a gimmick for the intro of the popular Gameboy game, it was merely a teaser for one of the weirdest Pokémon features ever. Surfing Pikachu was real! It wasn't easy to obtain, but it could be done, here's how:

:eight_spoked_asterisk: The surfing Pikachu was featured in a minigame exclusive to Pokémon Yellow, called Pikachu's Beach. This can only be activated by transferring a surfing Pikachu from other games. The Surfin' Dude there apparently also has a surfing Pikachu.

:eight_spoked_asterisk: In the generation 2 games, players may receive a Surf Pikachu doll via mystery gift; however, this item is very rare.

:eight_spoked_asterisk: A surfing Pikachu can be found in Yellow Forest.

:eight_spoked_asterisk: Surfing Pikachu have been given out through event distributions.

The only real benefit of Surfing Pikachu in these games was of course that the Pikachu knew Surf. However, a different overworld sprite would also be displayed while surfing on a Pikachu, and it was pretty funky looking one.

Side Series Games

Is surfing Pikachu a real Pokemon?

If you thought the odd concept of a little yellow rodent on a surfboard stopped there, you were wrong. Surfing Pikachu continued to make appearances outside of the main series games, and may do again in future.

The side series games Surfing Pikachu has appeared in are the Pokémon Stadium series, Pokémon Colosseum, Pokémon XD: Gales of Darkness and Pokémon Battle Revolution. In each of these games it is shown wielding a cute pink surfboard which once again allows it to learn Surf (keep thinking about it, maybe it will make sense eventually). Each of these games had their own requirements to obtain this Pokémon, and the methods are available online if you need this in your life.

Lt Surge is obviously quite the surf instructor, as all his Pikachu and Raichu in the Pokémon Stadium games know Surf. So you don't want to go bringing too many ground types into his gym, despite their advantages against electric types.

Spin-off Games

You thought we were done there??! No way! I haven't made you regret clicking this yet. Surfing Pikachu's most recent appearances in the video game world have been in the form of spin-off games.

In the first level of Pokémon Snap (I love that game so much), Pikachu is found stood on the beach close to... guess what... a pink surfboard! By later returning to this level and throwing food at the surfboard, Pikachu will get curious and climb on it, somehow instantly standing in a pose a pro surfer would... stop questioning it. If you get a good picture of this, Professor Oak practically throws points at you when it comes to reviewing the pictures at the end of the level.

Surfing Pikachu also featured in special courses on Pokémon Dash and appeared in the "Gyarados' Aqua Dash" level of Poképark Wii (another game I love) if a certain code was entered on the menu screen, making it a playable character (fun fact the code is in the instruction booklet).

Surfing Pikachu has also made random appearances in the Anime, manga and TCG, so is obviously quite popular amongst Nintendo as well as the fans.

I was hoping to see this concept return in Pokémon Sun and Moon and I feel as though it was a wasted opportunity to not have it in there considering surfing is popular in Hawaii and there was plenty of Ocean in the games since the region was islands... but oh well maybe next time.

Thank you for reading this! It really means a lot!

Massive thank you once again to Trainer Sara for the TPL! Go check her out!
