Is the purge gonna happen in 2022

Fashion model and influencer Rosie Graham (@rosiegraham_) raised suspicions in a viral TikTok video when she alluded that The Purge may have predicted 2022. 

The video shows Graham watching the first purge movie and a TV screen with the read, “America, 2022. Unemployment is at 1%. Crime is at an all-time low. Violence barely exists.” It then continued to read, “With one exception…” 

The next screen read, “Blessed be the Founding Fathers for letting us Purge and cleanse our souls, Blessed be America, a nation reborn.”  

This freaked some people because that would mean that the “purge” would become a real-life event that allows citizens to commit any and all crimes they choose in a span of 12 hours with no legal consequences. Users expressed fear and worry over the possibility of this being true. 

One user commented, “I just watched this last night and had a panic attack.”

Another commented, “Unlocked a new irrational fear.” 

Others felt that there was a big deal being made for nothing. 

One user stated, “Why are people freaking out? It’s a movie. Chill y’all.” 

The Purge debuted in 2013. The film featured a wealthy family being held hostage because they were “harboring the target of a murderous syndicate” during the during the hours of the purge

The comments section lit up with people in a panic because of the correlation that many have seen with the famous TV show, The Simpsons. There has been an ever-going trend for years that this TV show somehow predicts the future. 

One user commented, “They’re having a Simpsons moment.” 

People believe the TV show “predicted” historical events such as the U.S. capitol riot on Jan. 6, 2021, but in other cases, they didn’t get the picture entirely correct.

As the intro to the first Purge tells us, the year is 2022. ... The NFFA implemented the Purge as a means of basically concentrating crime and mayhem into one single night (even called a “holiday”) in which all crime is legal and all emergency services are suspended for 12 hours, beginning annually at 7 p.m. on March 21.




Honestly, I don't know why its called a holiday.
In history, religion and political science, a purge is a removal or execution of people who are considered undesirable by those in power from a government, another organization, their team leaders, or society as a whole. A group undertaking such an effort is labeled as purging itself.
The Annual Purge was an annual event created by the NFFA that legalized all crimes for 12 hours. It was held from March 21-22, starting from 7pm until 7am. However, it was founded under a lie to reduce the American population.
“The First Purge,” the latest in the dystopian franchise, tells the origin story of the first experimental purge. When filmmaker James DeMonaco and his longtime production partner Sébastien Lemercier started working on “an X-rated treatise on violence,” they had no idea they would eventually conceive of “The Purge.”

Thats it for the purge. And the next purge movie would release in the late, possibly early 2021. It was postponed because of the Covid-19 outbreak. 

Rewatching the first Purge movie, TikToker Rosie Graham (@rosiegraham_) noticed the bit at the beginning where it mentions the year 2022, and asked “why is no one talking about this?” Probably because it was a mediocre film set in an arbitrary near-future. But no matter. Folks are curious: what year and month is The Purge (2013) set in, and is it really going to happen in 2022?

What year is the first Purge film set in?

The Purge came out in 2013. Little did its producers know it would be the first of many – or maybe they did. 

Its premise is that the (fictional) New Founding Fathers of America, who assumed power in the wake of the financial crisis of 2007-2008, launch a social experiment as an attempt to get America’s societal obsession with violence under control. For 12 hours a year, all crime is legal. Let it out, and let the “lowest rungs of society” destroy themselves.

The First Purge takes place on 21 March 2017, from 7 pm until 7 am the next morning. But the action of the first Purge movie takes place in the fifth year of the national holiday. 

Therefore, The Purge is set in the year 2022. The date? 21 March. Which, you know, is just around the corner.

TikTok fan theory claims The Purge is real and will happen in 2022

Well, that seems to be what it’s suggesting, however far its tongue is in its cheek. Watch the video below.

Rosie Graham’s TikTok video has been liked almost half a million times. She uploaded it on 28 January. It highlights the fact that the first instalment of The Purge franchise is set in the year 2022, and encourages us, as viewers, to reflect on the state of things.

In the world of The Purge, there are major class divisions in society. 

“In the middle-class suburbs where the Sandin’s (played by Ethan Hawke and Lena Heady) live,” writes Screen Rant (linked above), “the NFFA’s fake ethics are tolerated and lightly indulged in, with the poor and homeless often the targets.”

The Purge’s opening text reads: “Unemployment is at 1%. Crime is at an all-time low. Violence barely exists. With one exception…”

For the exercise of distancing our present reality with the dystopian world of The Purge: the current unemployment rate in the US is 4%, not 1%. Nor is crime at an all-time low, although it is lower than it was during the 1990s. And, evidently, violence does exist, more than barely. So it seems unlikely that the events of The Purge will happen in 2022. 

In what year is the sixth Purge movie going to be set?

Franchise creator James DeMonaco expected The Forever Purge, which came out in 2021, to be the final instalment of the series. 

But, Comic Book reported at the time, he was soon hinting at details of a sixth movie and confirming various rumours.

“I’ll say this”, DeMonaco told the outlet, “the America that we enter into in Purge 6 is not the America we now live in. It’s been remapped, I should say, in a unique way. And we’re entering into this very changed surface of America.”

“A new America has been formed”, he continued. “And … it’s about 10 to 15 years after The Forever Purge.”

Given that The Forever Purge takes place in the year 2048, the sixth instalment will therefore be set in or around 2058-2063.
