He opts instead for the easy photography club. but finds that it is also called the "Playboy Bitch Club," and is filled with many colorful and interesting upperclassmen. Another boy named Kashima joins at the same time as Tōno, and ends up confessing to Tōno on the spot. Tōno finds Yaguchi cute, but Yaguchi can't help but blush and be embarrassed around Kashima.

The Yarichin Bitch Club anime was released in the form of two OVAs at 24 minutes each. The anime was directed by Ai Yoshimura and released from September 21, 2018 to August 17, 2019.

Yarichin Bitch Bu (Japanese:「ヤリチン☆ビッチ部」), also known as Yaribu, is an ongoing Japanese yaoi web manga series created in 2012 by Ogeretsu Tanaka (Japanese: おげれつ たなか) and originally self-published on Pixiv. It was later published in print by Gentosha, and adapted into 2 popular OVA episodes, produced by the animation studio GRIZZLY.

The plot follows a 1st year high school student, Toono Takashi, who transfers to Mori-Moori Academy, a private boys-only boarding school. He joins the photography club, but very quickly finds out that photography is a facade for the club's true aim, which is for its members to practise their favourite hobby: having sex.

That sounds pretty raunchy. Do I even want to look at this?

Yaribu is definitely not for everyone, and should not be read by anyone who is underage. It sits firmly in the yaoi genre, which is characterised by very explicit pornographic content between male characters. Yaoi also tends to feature certain tropes such as assault, emotional manipulation, and relationships with questionable age gaps.

Some of these themes being present in Yaribu to a certain extent, so. if that content is not for you, you aren't very likely to enjoy Yaribu. Fans enjoy the series due to its comedy, the memorable characters and their relationships, and the sex.

Alright, I'm in. Where do I start?

Most people start off with the anime and pick up the manga afterwards, but it's entirely up to you.

I'm just here from the TikTok memes. What is that song?

It's called Touch You, and is the anime's theme song. You can listen to it on Spotify.

Where can I watch the anime?

The Japanese DVD/Blu-Ray is available to buy on CDJapan, and comes with some extra goodies, including the theme song CD.

It is very unlikely that the OVAs will ever be officially licensed outside of Japan, and as such there is currently no legal way to watch the series in any language other than Japanese.

However there are illegal rips of the anime available online with English subs. You can find these by searching using a search engine.

How many episodes are there?

There are 2 OVAs / episodes.

Why are there so few episodes? Was the anime cancelled?

  • No, it was not cancelled. The anime was always meant to be released as a 2-episode OVA. OVAs generally always have a very small number of episodes, as they do not air on live TV. This is quite typical for yaoi shows, especially ones which are as explicit as Yaribu.

  • There's barely enough manga content to adapt into a proper anime. To get a full-length 12-episode anime series at the current adaptation pace, we would need around 5-6 volumes of manga. As at the release of the 2nd OVA episode, there were only 3 volumes.

Will we get more episodes in the future?

While we cannot say anything with 100% certainty, it's not likely that Yaribu will get more episodes. It depends on a lot of factors which we just can't predict.

No. See this post for more details.

Does the anime differ much from the manga?

Not really.

The only differences are that the some minor scenes from the manga were cut out, and the order of some events was shuffled around. This was done to keep certain plot lines together, and to make the anime's pacing flow better. But overall it's a pretty faithful adaptation.

I've finished the anime and want to continue with the manga. What chapter do I start from?

The anime covers chapters 1 through 7, so you can start from chapter 8. See here for what this means in terms of the volumes.

However we would highly recommend that you start right from the beginning in chapter 1, so as to not get confused by some of the small differences between the anime and manga.

The theme song is catchy. What is it and where can I listen to it?

The main theme is called Touch You, and is sung by the voice actors of the main cast, with Tanaka herself contributing to the lyrics. You can listen to it on Spotify.

Each character also sings their own version of the song, and all of these tracks (including the full theme song) have been collected into an album. You can listen to it on Spotify, and you can purchase it from CDJapan (CD only), or Amazon JP (CD & digital), or OTOTOY (digital only).

Please see here for how to purchase digital music from OTOTOY and Amazon JP.

How can I read Yarichin Bitch Bu?

  • Tanaka publishes the original chapters in Japanese for free on her Pixiv page. However, she sometimes 'privates' certain chapters to encourage readers to purchase the tankoubon volumes. The volumes also contain some bonus content that's not on Pixiv.

  • The Japanese volumes are published by Gentosha and are available on most Japanese bookselling sites, including amazon.co.jp, etc.

  • The series is licensed in English by SuBLime. They do not publish individual chapters, but instead publish English versions of the tankoubon volumes. A list of merchants for both the print and digital versions is available on their website.

  • Yaribu is licensed in other languages such as German, Italian, and French. Similar to the English release, they also only publish the tankoubon volumes.

  • Individual chapters (and some bonus volume content) are also usually translated by fans within the community, and made available for free online. You can find them by using a search engine; however please note that most of these are illegally distributed and of questionable quality.

What's the difference between fan translations/scanlations, and licensed manga releases?

  • Fan translations are a text-only translation/summary of the original Japanese releases, and are created by fans within the community. This is generally fine. However,

  • Scanlation groups go further by illegally scanning/downloading the Japanese releases, typesetting their fan translations onto the chapters, and then distributing them. This is what most people read because it is free and fast. Each scanlation group has differences in translations, so you may want to compare them.

  • The SuBLime/Egmont releases are legally licensed and professionally translated, meaning the overall quality of the chapters is much higher than the vast majority of scanlations. However, it tends to release much later than the illegal scans and you must pay to read these releases.

So should I read the fan or official release?

It's up to you. However, we encourage you to use the official release as much as possible, as it's the best way to support the author. In addition, the quality of fan releases can be quite poor, and has led to a lot of confusion and misunderstandings (example here).

The English volumes are sold out everywhere! When will they be back in stock?

We're not sure when they'll be back. For as long as SuBLime holds the licence for Yaribu, they will keep printing copies, so the volumes will become available to buy at some point. However, particularly due to the pandemic, they are currently finding it difficult to keep up with demand.

As an alternative, you can purchase the ebooks instead, as those will never have a stocking issue!

How many chapters/volumes are there?

Tanaka has currently released 23 chapters on Pixiv. They have been collected into 4 tankoubon volumes as follows:

VolumeCorresponding ChaptersVol 1Chapters 1-6Vol 2Chapters 7-11Vol 3Chapters 12-15Vol 4Chapters 16-18

Vols 1-3 have been released officially in Japanese, English, and other languages. Vol 4 came out in Japan on 22nd Jan 2021, and in English on 8th Feb 2022. Chapters 19-23 have not yet been published in a tankoubon volume.

How often do new chapters come out?

Short answer: No one knows.

Long answer: Tanaka originally started drawing Yaribu for fun in 2012, and was surprised when it became so popular. She has several other projects that she works on, and juggles those along with Yaribu. Because of this she doesn't follow a fixed release schedule for Yaribu, and chapters come out as and when. Sometimes it's a few months in between chapters; sometimes it's a few years. We just have to wait and see.

How can I get notified when new chapters are released?

  • You can follow Tanaka on Pixiv

  • You can follow Tanaka on Twitter. Bear in mind that her posts are in Japanese, and she will also post updates about the other projects she works on.

  • A stickied thread will be created on this subreddit whenever a new chapter is released, so you can check the sub regularly.

Why are there so many different 'latest' chapters available?

The official English publication is usually a bit behind the Japanese volume, and very far behind the Pixiv chapters, especially as Tanaka's release schedule is very slow. However, there are also scanlation (fan translation) groups that put out translated versions of the manga. There are several such groups, and each group releases content at a different pace.

For now, the latest chapter for the various publications are as follows:

PublicationLatest ChapterPixiv23Japanese volumes18English volumes18German volumes18Fan scanlationsvariable, depending on the group

Is the manga still ongoing?

As of now, yes. Tanaka has not mentioned anything about cancelling or ending the series.

Are the characters in high school or university?

They are in the Japanese equivalent of senior high school. See this post for more details.

How old are the characters?

Tanaka technically has not explicitly stated their exact ages (see this post for more details). However, they are all in senior high school, so we can infer that:

  • the 1st years (Toono, Kashima, Yaguchi) are around 15/16

  • the 2nd years (Yuri, Tamura, Jimmy) are around 16/17

  • the 3rd years (Akemi, Itome, Shikatani) are around 17/18

I'm all caught up with the anime and manga. Is there any other Yaribu content available?

  • Make sure you've read the bonus content from the volumes. For example, Volume 2's bonus content is a short side story called Wa! (Japanese:「輪っ!」), which shows how Tamura and Yuri know each other. The bonus content is well worth reading.

  • You can check out the anime OST, as detailed here.

  • The anime studio, GRIZZLY, also released 9 songs, one for each of the main cast. Tanaka assisted with some of the lyrics, and the songs are performed by the characters' VAs. The character songs are spread out across 3 records, which are available here:

Please see here for how to purchase digital music from OTOTOY and Amazon JP.

  • Before the anime even existed, Yaribu was being adapted into a series of drama CDs (basically audiobooks), produced by Ginger Records. The voice cast from the drama CDs (exc Tamura's VA) then went on to reprise their roles in the anime.

There are currently 4 drama CDs, the most recent of which was published in 2019. Obviously they're all in Japanese, and there's unlikely to ever be an official English adaptation. No one in the community has produced a fansub either, as of yet. However, you can still purchase the CDs from Amazon JP if you wish:

Tanaka has written many BL series, a list of which can be found here.

She also writes non-BL manga under the name Marumero Tanaka (Japanese: たなか マルメロ). You can find her Marumelo work here.

You can follow her on Twitter to keep up to date with her work, although note that she posts in Japanese.

What are some other series I might enjoy?

There aren't really many other shows like Yaribu; it's its own unique mix of over-the-top comedy and classic BL/yaoi goodness. However some specific series which are usually recommended include Killing Stalking (manhwa only), Doukyuusei (manga and movie adaptation), and Given (manga and anime adaptation).
