The shift from machine-centered automation to user-centered services and tools is enabling users to be more creative and achieve more. Electronic textbooks become more and more open, free, accessible and affordable. Recent years have seen an unpredicted growth of electronic, digital and iBooks as well as authoring tools for its design, development and implementation. This article analyses the diversity of open, free and affordable textbooks elaborated in recent years. It has identified four major trends in order to prove the metasystems transition theory from programed textbooks to open textbooks for individual and collaborative learning. This presents unique insights into perceived relative significance of impact of different pedagogical resources and authoring tools for global learning environment.

Reviews of alternative conceptions research (eg Garnett, Garnett & Hackling, 1995) indicate that it is difficult for introductory chemistry students to develop adequate conceptions of the unobservable entities (atoms and molecules) and events involved in chemical reactions. The difficulties students experience visualising the submicroscopic particulate nature of matter and the processes involved in chemical change represent a major barrier to the development of a scientifically valid understanding of many chemistry concepts.

We propose, as a special way to explore the physics of flying objects, to use a flight simulator with a personalized scenery to reproduce the territory where students live. This approach increases the participation and attention of students to physics classes but also creates several opportunities for addressing side activities and arguments of various nature, from history to geography, computer science, and much more.
