R.O. Writer provides you with a quick and easy way to print oil stickers. You can place these stickers on the inside of the windshield. This helps customers know when they need to schedule another oil change. Each machine that prints oil stickers must be configured. Configuration OverviewAfter the oil sticker is connected and recognized by the local machine, you must complete the following steps: Step 1 - Choose the Oil Sticker Printer in Printer Locations Step 2 - Select the Settings in Oil Sticker Configuration
Step 3 - Configure the Printer Properties in Windows Control Panel
Step 4 - Configure Labor to Print Oil Stickers
Step 5 - Configure Printing Bar Codes (Requires DVI Suite) PrerequisiteThe first step is buying and installing the correct sticker printer or printers. Oil stickers require a special label printer. R.O. Writer supports the following label printers:
When you have obtained the correct printer, you must connect each printer to each machine that prints oil stickers. Step 1 - Choose the Oil Sticker Printer in Printer LocationsYou must connect your oil sticker printer to each machine in your shop that will print oil stickers. NOTE: If the oil sticker you connect to the machine comes with software, you must also install that software on each machine. Complete these steps:
NOTE: You may want to test print to this printer just to test the connection. Further setup is required to print an oil sticker with content. Step 2 - Select the Settings in Oil Sticker ConfigurationYou configure and test the oil sticker itself in Oil Sticker Configuration. To access this setting, open Configuration and click Configuration menu > Oil Sticker.
Fields remain inactive until the Print box is checked.
Step 2a - Choose the Content of the Oil StickerYou choose the content in the Print Settings section. The way the information is typed in the fields is how the information prints on stickers. When the Print box is checked, you can enter information in the fields. The following table describes the content fields in the Print Settings section.
Step 2b - Set the Font Size for Each FieldYou select the fields that print and how they appear in the Print and Font Size columns.
For each item with the Print box checked and content entered, select the font size in the Font Size column. There are two options: Small Font and Large Font. You can select the font size for each field.
TIP! Use the Test button to test print your selections and verify that all content fits Step 2c - Select the Comment Position and PromptingIn the Options section, set the position of the Comment field and the behavior of the Oil Sticker prompt. The following table describes the comment and prompt settings.
Step 2d - Enter the Next Service Due Calculations (if Selected)If you choose Next Service Due as the Service Text, you can use the Default Maintenance Wizard to calculate the Next Visit Information for you.
When you choose Next Service Due, the Next Visit Information appears on the Oil Sticker prompt. You can review the calculated information and modify it before printing the oil sticker. The following table describes the Maintenance Interval settings.
Step 2e - Test Your ConfigurationThe Test button at the bottom of the window prints a test oil sticker to the oil printer selected in Printer Locations. Only the information with the Print box checked prints on the sticker. Test your configuration before printing a sticker for a customer. You should
Step 3 - Configure the Printer Properties in Windows Control PanelThe layout settings are in the Printer Properties Windows setting for the oil sticker printer itself. For example, you can set the following on the printer:
R.O. Writer supports most label sizes including 2 in. x 1.5 in. NOTE: Changes to the layout apply in R.O. Writer immediately. This means you can change the layout while Oil Sticker Configuration is open. After you make a change - on the Oil Sticker Configuration window OR the Windows Control Panel - just click the Test button to see how the layout changes impact printing. Step 3a - Set the Printer Properties in the Windows Control PanelYou need to open the Printer Properties for your printer in the Windows Control Panel. You format the oil sticker label within the Printer Properties tab windows. Every oil sticker printer is different. You should consult the material that came with the printer you purchased when modifying the settings in the Printer Properties in Windows. Complete these steps:
NOTE: There are more settings for each type of printer than documented here. Please consult the materials you received from the manufacturer regarding the printer settings. Step 3b - Test the Printer Properties in R.O. Writer ConfigurationR.O. Writer designed the Oil Sticker Printer Configuration window to accept changes from the Printer Properties settings in Windows immediately. You do not need to reboot R.O. Writer Configuration to test the Printer Properties settings from the Windows Control Panel. This means that you can set and test the oil sticker label as much as you need to until the label prints exactly as you want it. Complete these steps:
To Put a Shortcut to the Devices and Printers Setting on Your DesktopYou may want to create a Windows shortcut directly to the Devices and Printers setting. Windows puts a shortcut on the Desktop. Complete these steps:
Step 4 - Configure Labor to Print Oil StickersYou can configure jobs to print oil stickers. This includes labor operations and Smart eJobs. Step 4a - Configure Labor Operations to Print Oil StickersYou can set labor operations to print oil stickers. When the labor operation is set to print oil stickers, an oil sticker prints automatically when a repair order that contains that labor operation is finalized. To Configure Labor Operations to Print Oil StickersComplete these steps:
NOTE: Setting a labor operation to print an oil sticker does not apply when the labor operation is used in a Smart Job. In that case, you must set the Smart Job to print an oil sticker as well. Step 4b - Configure Smart Jobs to Print Oil StickersIf you use Smart Jobs or Smart eJobs for oil changes, you can set those jobs to print oil stickers. Even though Smart Jobs and Smart eJobs build on labor operations, you must set the Smart Job to print oil stickers. If the labor operation is set to print oil stickers but you do not set the Smart Job to print oil stickers as well, no oil sticker will print for the Smart Job. To Configure Smart Jobs to Print Oil StickersWhen the Smart Job is set to print oil stickers, an oil sticker prints automatically when a repair order that contains that Smart Job is finalized. Complete these steps:
Step 5 - Configure Printing Bar Codes (Requires DVI Suite)If you use DVI Suite, you can purchase an additional license that allows you to print barcodes on oil stickers.
You can scan this barcode when the customer arrives for their next visit to create a new repair order for today's visit. The new repair order contains the oil change labor from the customer's previous visit (when the barcode was printed). To find out if you are licensed for this feature, check your Licensed Options. If you see the "Barcode Sticker" in the Licensed Options list, you are licensed to print barcodes on oil stickers.
To Configure Oil Stickers to Print BarcodesIf you are licensed to print barcodes on oil stickers, a Use Barcode checkbox appears on the Oil Sticker Configuration window.

What kind of printer do you need to print sticker labels?It depends on your sticker's design but usually a 4-color inkjet printer with a 1200 dpi print resolution will more than suffice. In the less likely event that your sticker design requires dynamic color ranges and requires more tonal variation, look for a printer with no less than 6 cartridges.

What is an oil sticker?An Oil Change Sticker generally tells you three pieces of information: The date of service, the type of oil used, and the mileage. Some oil change stickers are handwritten using a fine-point sharpie, while others are professionally printed with a thermal oil change printer.
