The popular Southern fast-food chicken joint Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers is making its way to The Big Apple.

Julia Doyle, manager of operations support for Raising Cane’s, confirmed to Greater Long Island that the company aims to open two new locations in New York City some time next spring.

Their debut location in the city will be at Broadway and 44th Street in Times Square. The chain’s 8,500-square-foot flagship Manhattan store will be the largest restaurant in Times Square, according to reports.

GFP Real Estate, LLC announced April 5 that they signed a retail lease in Manhattan for another Raising Cane’s at 10 Astor Place, at the corner of Astor Place and Lafayette Street in the NoHo district.

Doyle said the Raising Cane’s at Astor Place is scheduled to open after the one in Times Square.

Founded by Todd Graves in 1996, Raising Cane’s — known for their chicken finger meals, Texas toast, and secret Cane’s sauce — boasts 615 restaurants in 32 states and in Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.

It’s official: Fried chicken aficionados will finally be able to get a taste of Raising Cane’s in New York City.

NoHo will soon become one of the best-smelling areas in Manhattan. Real estate website The Commercial Observer reports that the Louisiana fast food chain is opening at 10 Astor Place, the first Raising Cane’s location in the city with a confirmed lease. According to the report, the chain signed a 20-year lease for the space, a former Walgreens location.

It’s part of a much larger expansion, with plans to open 100 locations across the US in 2022. Earlier this year, QSR Magazine reported that the chain is set to unveil a massive 8,500-square-foot outpost in Times Square. Despite digital signage appearing in the area for the better part of a year, the company has yet to publicly confirm the exact Times Square location, and neither restaurant’s opening date has been announced just yet.

NYC’s Oldest Gay Bar Just Became a Historic Landmark

It took 10 years, but now it’s official. Greenwich Village’s iconic Julius’ bar, the oldest gay bar in the city, was just awarded its much-awaited landmark status.

The decision came a decade after the cause was first taken up by the Village Preservation organization, and on Tuesday morning, the city Landmarks Preservation Commission finally voted on the case.

“Julius’ finally has the landmark status it deserves,” Executive Director of Village Preservation Andrew Berman said in a statement. “This is a huge step forward in recognizing our city’s history as a refuge and home to the nation’s largest LGBTQ+ community.”

In addition to being the oldest gay bar in NYC, Julius’ is also famously known for being an important site of activism. In 1966, the “Sip-In” protest took place at the Julius’, where participants condemned the regulations that, at the time, criminalized gay bars. The bar has been open since the 1860s.

“This is an integral part of New York and American history, and these stories and places must be honoured and preserved,” added Berman. “We praise the city for taking this long-overdue action and urge them to keep going.”

Recently, Brooklyn also got a new LGBTQ+ landmark to celebrate. In late November, the Lesbian Herstory Archives building was recognized as first queer landmark in the borough.
