Hes known by many names: Thanatos. Horseman. Gods last angel. And then, of course, theres the one Im all too familiar with
Death.

The day Death comes to Lazarus Gaumonds town and kills everyone in one fell swoop, the last thing he expects to see is a woman left alive and standing. But Lazarus has her own extraordinary gift: she cannot be killednot by humans, not by the elements, not by Death himself.
She is the one soul Death doesnt recognize. The one soul he cannot pry free from her flesh. Nor can he ignore the unsettling desire he has for her. Take her. He wants to, desperately. And the longer she tries to stop him from his killing spree, the stronger the desire becomes.
When Lazarus crosses paths with the three other horsemen, an unthinkable situation leads to a terrible deal: seduce Death, save the world. A hopeless task, made all the worse by the bad blood between her and Thanatos. But Deaths attraction to her is undeniable, and try though she might, Lazarus cannot stay away from that ancient, beautiful being and his dark embrace.
The end is here. Humankind is set to perish, and not even the horsemen can stop Death from fulfilling his final task.
Only Lazarus can.

UPDATE: 3, maybe 3.5 stars. We start the looting and pillaging at dawn.

Settle down kids and let us begin. Did I like it? Yeah, would I die for it? Not permanently.

First and foremost the fact that he calls her 'Kismet' is a singularly delicious and satisfying thing. Laura you got me with that one. Get you a demon angel boy who thinks you're his ultimate destiny.

The beginning is centered around Lazarus hunting Death and sometimes attempting to warn others about his arrival, only to predictably fail. The first SEVENTEEN chapters are of this same pattern. It's cute, but after a while becomes tedious, you know? I love the push and pull of the start of a romance centered novel, but I need a little variation otherwise the excitement goes away and it becomes a bit tedious, like when are they gonna get to the good bit, ya know? Someone get some butts in here.

Speaking of tedious, after they bang and he discovered titties (I was shook too, don't get me wrong) that becomes ALL THEY DO. They just move houses and f*ck for what feels like the ENTIRE DAMN BOOK. Ugh, and the sex doesn't even sound like it's that great:

"he thrusts himself into me in one sharp movement"

"Then he brings my hips down, driving himself into my tight sheath." This is after she mentions she's sore. WHERE IS THE DAMN FOREPLAY?!

I hate when after the first time characters bang, there's this assumption that the p*ssy is now just constantly on ocean mode. No. The foreplay is the fun part, stop with the mindless thrusting into desert p*ssy. Do you know who was ON IT with the foreplay? War. In that respect War can have all the money in my bank account.

Also I'm sick of these sexy, virgin losers having the best d*ck ever. OK, the head-game being fire is a MUST, that's believable if only these hoes would just DO EXACTLY WHAT YOU TELL THEM TO. BUT. Show me premature ejaculation from the Death god. Show me adorable abashed baby who is flustered and doesn't know what to do yet. There's a bit of this, but DRAW IT OUT FFS. It could have been an adorable learning curve and would have made him a more sympathetic, loveable character. The scenes of her teaching him stuff are among the best ones, why not make sex one of them? That being said, Death is very much an endearing character throughout the domestic settings. He tries food because Laz wants him to, he swims in d*ck shrivelling ocean water because she wants him to, makes bread with her, takes baths with her, all the cute things. He finds her mansions because he wants her to be comfortable and will do whatever it takes and all of the fluff and sweetness. It's lovely. I do love when these characters are a little humanised and you see them out of their element with their partners.

Famine in this book was an absolute DREAM. The man is too funny. The snark, the cantankerousness. Iconic. The absolute moment. Allow me to provide the class with examples:

"“Thanks brother,” Pestilence says, lifting his bow off of his chest. “Just doing my job,” Famine says. “Ana tells me we must take care of our elderly.”

“They’re corpses,” Pestilence says, digging through the dead. From beneath them, he grabs one of the bundles of arrows he had set aside earlier. “Did you expect them to smell like your precious purple roses you like to rub all over yourself when you think no one is watching?” In response, a bush near the horseman opens, releasing a mostly pulverized revenant. The creature lunges for Pestilence. “Whoops,” Famine says.

"In the distance Famine laughs, a wheezy, wet sound. I can’t think of a more inappropriate reaction" Need I say more?

Overall the writing itself was good, however, there were parts I just blindly read through in other to get to the next part and the fact that all of these series is DEEPLY formulaic did not help with that. Since I have a pretty good understanding of how the narrative is structured, it makes it hard to be surprised. They all have a girl who they torture briefly at the beginning of their quest, they take her as prisoner, they gradually soften towards her and make exceptions for her, they get attached, learn about lust. They have the best sex ever *side eyeing you Pestilence and Death* they soften even more, bae gets captured, they realise they cannot abandon their missions because humans are filthy trash, they start viciously murdering once more. Bae says stop, he like nah. She takes drastic measures to stop him, he realises the monster he's become/ always was, he stops shanking people in exchange for an eternity sheathing her chooch like a glove, day and night. Amen.

I devoured the book and I enjoyed it immensely. The writing is as always good and the characters compelling. I'm going to miss my horsemen and their ladies.

I have something to say about the plot: It's not predictable, or at least it wasn't for me. The four books kept me at the edge of my seat and there was always a surprise around the corner.

Yes, the first chapters of the 4 books of each horseman follow the general line of other enemies to lover books.
1) h meets H
2) Killing attempt/Hate feelings
3) Journeying together falling in love

but that's not a bad thing, in no way this progression of events makes the book predictable or boring. We all know how the previous books were, this is the style of the series and we signed up for Death knowing it could be a similar book that has its own flavor that distinguishes from the others. It's like reading the Harry Potter series.

1) Introducing a puzzle/mystery
2) Hogwarts letter
3) Sept first rituals that add intrigue to the puzzle: Diagon Alley shopping, King cross, Feast
4) Develop mystery, develop characters, life threatening situations, mystery is solved
5) End of year, everyone returns home for Summer break.

Six out of seven books follow Harry school year, mostly starting on Sept 1 and all end with Harry and his friends completing another year of school and returning home for the Summer. The similar story line in 6 installments is nothing to hold against Harry Potter as series, and it's certainly not a point to use against The four Horsemen, each book was unique in their own enemies-to-lover way just as each Horseman is a different entity than the brother that preceded him. I'll go as far as to say that each book is totally different than its predecessor and that this is the most original sci-fi romance, I've read since The V Girl. I read dozens of series every year, very few keep me reading like The Four Horsemen, the premise is really original and like nothing I read before and each brother brought a different dynamic to the romance. Besides every book is in a different setting so I never felt like I was reading the same book.

Special mention to our heroines, it's sad to think that I won't read about Sara, Miriam, Ana and Lazarus again. I love the four brothers, but it's their dynamics with each of their women that captivated me. Girls from all nationalities and walks of live, all of them strong and sassy. Laura Thalassa writes the best heroines and for that, I feel this book deserves nothing short of 5 stars.

I recommend this series to everyone, especially if you're tired of reading the same kind of romance books and are looking for something different. Thank you Laura Thalassa for the great moments.

🐎 Death / Thanatos (H): His character really surprised me. When I thought of Death, I expected him to be one of the most ruthless & cunning character in the series, but instead Death was actually a softie. He erases human kind, not because he enjoys it, but because it's his mission. He doesn't love the suffering and pain he's leaving. It was neither a good nor a bad thing, it was just not what I expected.

🐎 Lazarus (h): This girl just has the worst of luck. Imagine falling from a tree and having your neck broken or getting robbed and getting your throat slit. Well, the good thing is: Lazarus can't die. For some reason she always wakes up again after dying. That makes her the perfect match for Death in many ways.

🐎 I honestly loved the beginning how Lazarus and Death (both immortal) hunted each other down and killed each other. Couples who kill each other, stay together 🥰

"Go ahead then, leave. I'll simply hunt you down again," I vow. "And when I find you, I will stop you."
He laughs, turning around once more.
"I am one of the few things that cannot be stopped, Lazarus. Nevertheless, I look forword to seeing you try."
I think that's the end of the conversation, but instead he approaches me once more.
He pauses, then kneels back down at my side.
My brows furrow together, and I rear back a little. "What are you doing?"
His eyes gleam in the darkness. "Getting a head start."
And then for the second time that day, the fucker reaches out and snaps my neck.

Read death online free laura thalassa epub

🐎 Death could sometimes be so immature with Laz and it was hilarious. It was so unexpected and I loved those moments.

"I'm going to keep you here, where you cannot destroy any more towns."
"So then we are to live here?" he asks, glancing around at our surroundings. "Together?"
I frown at him. "That's not how this situation works."
"Then how does it work?"
"If you move, I attack."
He flashes me a sly glance, then leans to the left.
"I'm moving," he taunts.
"Don't be childish," I say.
"I wouldn't know how to be childish," he counters, "I've never been a child."
I narrow my eyes at him again.
He leans right. "Still moving."
Oh, for fuck's sake.

🐎 My biggest problem with this book was that it was so tedious after a while. Because it's Death and the last book in the series, I was hoping for something different from the plot of the previous books, but it was still pretty much the same stuff with Laz and Death moving from city to city and destroying humankind while 'living' together. We've been there with the other three horsemen and I just wanted something completely different. Laura Thalassa did something different with making the heroine immortal, but plot-wise it's stil the same more or less so I got bored.

🐎 The cameos of the other horsemen were my highlight throughout the book. Every time I was ready to put down the book for the day, their cameo made my interst spike again. It was cool to see them all back together.

🐎 Despite killing e/o at the beginning, Death and Lazarus were kinda cute together. I think Death might even be the most romantic horseman of the bunch. He wanted to please Laz so badly. He was such an innocent (innocent, but still murdering people) cinnamon roll for her. 😇

"You are exquisite," he says. He leans forward and kisses the pulse at my neck, his dark hair tickling my skin. "Exquisite and troublesome and curious and alive."
"I thought you didn't like the fact that I was alive." He gives me a soft smile.
"Even angels can be wrong."

🐎 Worst of all: this book made me feel NOTHING. Death & Lazarus dynamic at the beginning made me smile and there were some highlights that had me one the floor (*cough* the cameos *cough*), but otherwise for the most part I looked like this → 😐
the reactions for this book that I've been seing are all "prepare tissues" and "this book made me cry" and here I am, once again, being an unfeeling cold bitch 😪

🐎 The last few chapters had some good actions and was everything I hoped this book would be as a whole. This series was neatly wrapped and I like the closure.

Conclusion

If you loved the other books in the series, you will absolutely love Death, personally, I was just done with the whole "going from city to city to destroy humans while heroine tries to talk the hero out of it"-plot and this book had no reason being 500 pages long, for that reason I was bored, but otherwise it was a satisfying conclusion.

📝 Lazarus biking from Temple, Georgia to some Orange-town in Texas, according to Google maps that's 666 miles or for us, European, 1071.82 km. GIRL ARE U OK?! the furthest you'll see me biking is to the supermarket and back (that's a lie, I don't bike periodTtt). I'd rather die then bike all the way across the US to chase some horseman 🤡

📝 these glowing blue whatever you see on Death's chest? he has that everywhere including on his dick. While he is pounding in Laz that "break me like a glow stick daddy" meme was in my head and helpppp but I couldn't stop thinking about it every time Thanatos and Lazarus had sex. All I can imagine is a blue glow stick that is shining brighter than the sun 😭

📝 When Thanatos and Lazarus have sex and the earth shakes and there is lightning ... they are giving Rhysand competition with the mountain shaking

📝 Death who? Famine was the scene stealer and MVP of this book and I'm not sorry. Pestilence- sorry I mean Victor and War got soft during their times as mortals, but Famine is still his rude and sarcastic self and every scene he was in was a highlight 🥰

War reaches out for the boy, but Ben rears back a little.
"Move away brother," Famine says, strolling over, carrying one of those pale purple flowers, "the kid has actual taste."

As Famine walks off with Ben, I hear him say, "I can make you more flowers," Famine says, "but if you shit on me, deal's off."

Famine turns to me, his eyes stony. "Lazarus," he says softly. "Don't forget your end of the deal." His words are laced with menace. "Suck him, fuck him, do whatever shit gets that brother of mine off, but remember that everything is resting on you now. Everything."

DKSDKFLF I can'T with this guy 🤣 after this book Famine is offically my favorite horseman. He is so unapologetically blunt. KING 🛐

📝 Death trying to eat human food and being completely disgusted by it. LOOL. it has suck to be him, not be able to enjoy the beauty of ✨ food ✨

Rather than telling a joke, he takes my hand and tries another bite of the bread–and proceeds to gag again.
"I can't–eat this," he admits. "It's ... atrocious."
He grabs the wine his skeletal servant poured for him, presumably to wash the taste out, but it's wine he's drinking, not water, and this too, is an acquired taste.
Thanatos nearly spits the liquid out, only stopping himself by pressing his fist to his mouth. Behind that fist, his face looks sickly.

📝 When Death said he would show Laz how angels have sex, I WAS SO PUMPED!!! But then it's basically just people with wings fucking in the sky. So that was disappointing. Not that sky sex isn't also intersting, but I wanted something more majestic and over the top 😔

I was really excited and hyped for this one because I waited for it an entire year and I thought it was gonna be something different to the other 3 books, but nope. You can see on my updates that I was crying and screaming of the emotion, but then... well, it flopped.

In some way, I was reading an acotar fic and ew, I'm avoiding all the acotar/tog related things that I can.

Lazarus was really stupid, but had some guts. However, she didn't have much personality and her only traits were Ben, fuck with Thanatos and complain. And Thanatos/Death only traits were being really horny, kill people and being naive.

About the 30% of the book, I was already predicting the things that were gonna happen and I was right in most of them. I wish I could say I didn't, but I did. This book turn out to be repetitive and boring at some point.

There was no worldbuilding whatsoever beside of the poor description of the lonely towns and all the dead people.... Something that we see over and over and over in the first 3 books... ??

The smut parts were a little bit overwhelming, and even more when there's a part where Lazarus and Death are fucking and she's like "well, that's too much for today" and he's like "nope, it's not. let's keep doing this", totally ignoring her and it's ok because she's having an orgasm and it's great because he's causing it. No, please. Fucking. Consent. She said it was enough. Also, the thing of sex in the sky was pretty weird, lol.

The "baby" plot was really ????? I don't know if it's because I hate kids (don't blame me, I grew up with kids and that's why I don't like them, lmao) or because I see these girls as 19/20 yo girls and not like 24/25 women... Idk, bruh, but I didn't like it at all.

A cool thing was that Pestilence, War and Famine showed up. I was kind of missing them, and Famine and his rage were really funny... Tho I know how the thing's gonna end up: Death realizing that humanity is worth it, the typical "to live is love, ho ho ho, merry xmas, y'all" shit and he's gonna stop killing people... And they're gonna live happily ever after, with animals doing some chores, taking care of the kids, all of the horseman and their wives living in the farm and the humanity recovering...

I just... Don't. Please. Humanity isn't worth it, lmao.

Also, the fact that Lazarus couldn't die was cool, but it wasn't explained. Like, what's the purpose to make her "immortal" if you're not gonna explain it? I need answers, no more unanswered questions, thanks.

It's sad that I don't finish this book because was one of my most anticipated books of 2021 and I'm pissed off, but oh well.

Everything turned out repetitive and boring, nothing different of the rest of the books, aND THIS MAKES ME SAD.

I CAN’T BELIEVE IT’S OVER.

I currently have a giant book hangover thanks to Death/Thanatos and Lazarus. This is the book we’ve all been waiting for and trust me when I say you’re not ready. It was an amazing conclusion to this fantastic series and I’m so sad it’s over. Thanatos is now up there as one of my favorite horsemen - he might even be my top fav. He’s obsessive, possessive, and surprisingly sweet when it comes to Lazarus. All he wants to do is take care of her… and have her by his side for millennia. Which is possible because she’s the only immortal human in existence! She’s the one person Death can’t kill and he wants her desperately for himself.

I LOVE that we also get to see all of our previous horsemen, who are now working together to stop Death from destroying humanity. Also, Laura Thalassa did NOT disappoint with this finale when it came to the steam or the action.

This is truly the ending of the Four Horsemen series but I can’t wait to see what Laura has in store for us next!

Excuse me while I just sit here and cry after that ending and the bittersweetness of the series finally being over😭 Death was everything I wanted and needed and yet, I'm still not ready to say goodbye to these characters😩.

“Serious, beautiful Lazarus,” he murmurs. He studies my face like he wants to immortalize it in his mind. “You snatched my loneliness from me,” he breathes, “and I hope you never give it back.”

I really don't know how I'm going to write this review at this point without giving too much away, so prepare for a lot of romantic quotes because I'm pretty sure I have the entire book highlighted😂.

“You were made for me,” he says fervently. “And I for you.”

So many of things I was SO excited for, everyone needs to experience for themselves, but I will just say, prepare for some epic reunions and bare witness to how time has truly passed and changed the Horsemen. Years after they all tried to end humanity, they are now trying to save it, and those they love (or for Famine, just those they love😂), and in order to do that, they have to prove to death that humanity is worth saving.

“I am the last of my kind, and I bring with me every manner of malady to plague humankind. Their fields shall blacken, their creatures shall flee. Mortals will quake before my name and all will fall to my touch. For I will end the world.”

Death is not what I expected AT ALL. Again, I don't want to give too much away, but if you love Pestilence, then you're gonna love Death too. Death has a twist though since he's been alive a lot longer and has witnessed humanity a lot longer too. One thing that shocked me though, was how noble, and yet naive Death was, and even romantic?

“This feeling I get when I’m with you is … there aren’t human words for it. It’s incomparable. All I can truly tell you is that when I hold you close to me, I am sure no one has ever felt as happy as I do. “So, to answer your question, I don’t remember myself when I look at the sky.” He takes my hand and tilts his head to face me once more. “I remember myself when I look at you.”

The heroine is also different than any of the other heroines. She's the complete opposite of Death in everyway- the epitome of life. I loved how strong she was and how caring she was for others. She did push away quite a bit, just like all the other heroines did as they battled with their morals, but she was also the perfect teacher for Death in showing him what love is all about.

“You are everything I thought I couldn’t have,”he breathes. I want to hide from his raw admission, but only because I’ve been in the habit of doing so for so long. Instead, I lean into that weightless feeling that fills me. I touch Death’s face. “And you’re everything I thought I shouldn’t have,” I respond.

I absolutely loved them together. Their personalities are so different, and not in the way you might be thinking either. They didn't start off on the best foot, but I love how much Death wanted to treat Lazarus like a queen (in the bed and out of it👀) Their relationship together was a perfect mixture of slow burn and softness, with just the right amount of spice🔥🔥🔥

“Must I bring down the rain and lightning or draw the roots and the dead up from the ground? Or make the earth quake and buildings fall to remind you who I am? I set my sights on you a year ago, but I haven’t fully taken you—not yet. So lay back, kismet, and let me show you what it means to be mine.”

And lastly, the finale was EPIC. Death surprised us all with the decision he made, and the aftermath of it. I will say though, that I nearly had a heart attack at one point, so if Laura can never do that to us again, I will be grateful😅 And everyone needs to prepare for that ending, because I legit sobbed like a baby so here's your last warning- prepare some tissues😭.

“My love for you is eternal and unfaltering, Lazarus. Do not doubt that. Stars will form and die, and what I feel for you will remain undimmed.”

Overall, such a fantastic book and series! I'm so sad it's over, but I'm glad we got the ending we did, and I'm so excited for everyone to finally be able to get to read Death too! And now, I wait until the next amazing characters and world Laura gives us😌❤

He removes that armor as he cuts across the field. His gaze remains fixed on mine the entire time. He casts the last of his metal trappings aside right as he steps up to me. I gaze up at him, feeling both fearful and laid bare. He cups my cheek.
“I’ve searched for you for a very long time,”Death says, his voice lethally soft. His eyes blaze. “I don’t intend to let you go.”

What a satisfying conclusion. Laura Thalassa gets every detail right with the last book in the Four Horsemen series. I loved our heroine. I had mixed feelings about our hero until the last 2/3 of the book, and then I loved him once I understood his perspective. It's tricky to write about death and the afterlife and spirituality without making folks upset or stepping on very sensitive toes (and it makes sense to me that the toes are sensitive because we're talking about faith and belief systems here, and people SHOULD be protective of their beliefs) but she addresses all these sticky topics with straightforward, no nonsense descriptions, not shying away from how this world she's originated deals with creation and death. This really impressed me.
The love story also impressed me. Goodness gracious, death is hot. But he was also achingly sweet and somehow . . . innocent? Such a strange, compelling combination of character traits that came together beautifully.
Another thing I loved was the "where are they now" addition of the brothers. LOVED seeing all the Four Horsemen together. That was a delight.
One last comment. I am not a reader of horror in general because it gives me nightmares (at least, it used to give my younger self nightmares, so I've always avoided it); this book was not horror . . . (I don't think?) but there were some horror-adjacent scenes that were just done so well and were enormously compelling.

Laura Thalassa is a gifted wordsmith, describing the landscapes of her imaginations in such a way that it feels like a movie playing out within my mind.

In summary, a hugely satisfying conclusion to a truly exceptional series. I can't wait to see what Laura Thalassa publishes next!

The Hero(es):

Death (a.k.a. Thanatos) - the 4th and most powerful horseman. He not only has the power to kill, but he has all the powers that his three brothers had as well. He is able to separate souls from their bodies and send them on there way to the hereafter.

The Story: After Death rides through the town where Lazarus lives, she takes it upon herself to stop him in any way she can. Lazarus lives to thwart death and to slow him down or stop him in any way she can. Though he certainly doesn’t make it easy for her. The attraction between them doesn’t help either.

“Hate is such a gentle word for what I feel for the horseman. And yet the sight of him makes me ache inside. He’s beautiful and terrible and more than just a little mythical as he rides down the highway.”

This story takes some turns that I did not expect at all. Pestilence, War and Famine make a few appearances and I enjoyed them quite a bit. Lazarus was the most surprising of all. She is definitely a warrior and she doesn’t give up. She fights for what she believes in and even when she gives up the fight, she has valid reasons.

I enjoyed this book, it was similar to the others of course in that each had a horseman traveling and leaving destruction in their wake. Though each did have a different way of killing people. Death’s was the most humane, though he killed hundreds, or even thousands in an instant the minute he rode into town and also he sees it as setting the soul free of human trappings to go on to the pearly gates. Though I suppose many souls go the other way as well, so it isn’t exactly freeing for them.

I also liked the romance. These two start out as enemies, battling and even killing each other. Though neither of them can really die, so they come back to life after being killed. But man that’s gotta hurt. They each die more than once and in some very painful ways, so it would seem hard for them to fall for each other. However, you can see why they would since they both are living very lonely and solitary existences and the only time they can really be themselves is with each other.

“You were designed to be mine. And it’s time I claimed you.”

I waited a long time for each book this series after first reading Pestilence and loving it so much. I am sure at some point in the future I will binge the entire series. Though I have to say that since I am getting older and read 300-500 books a year, I end up forgetting much of the detail of some of the books I read, but the books in this series have all stuck with me. I loved them all.

I recently binge-watched Lucifer on Netflix, and this is one of my favorite moments from the show AND this book when Death did something similar to protect Laz.

First of all, DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT LAZARUS LOOKS LIKE???? I swear there’s no physical description in the book, and it drove me insane. I don’t think even Death was described that vividly. But at least, there’s the book cover. Though I believe he has shoulder length hair instead of this dude’s seemingly long on top, cropped hair. Secondly, WHO’D HAVE THOUGHT DEATH WOULD BE SOOO MUSHY?!?? The mushy-est...

I certainly didn’t. But hey, I’m not mad about it. Slightly disappointed since I feel like we’d all been hyping him up as ruthless, merciless Daddy Death, and for an immortal whom I’d nicknamed Daddy, I didn’t think there’d be so much sweetness, sincerity, and profoundness to his character. Honestly, I don’t think this is what anyone had in mind when they thought of Death. He kinda reminds me of Nyktos from A Shadow in the Ember. Am I the only one who thinks so?????

***Spoilers***

This book was interesting and surprising in some parts and dull in others. It was fun watching Death and Laz killed each other multiple times... until it wasn’t and got repetitive. I thought the book was going to get boring from there, but then Laz saved a baby and decided to adopt him. I thought that was an odd choice for a side plot, but I think I get the symbolism (if it was meant to be one). Then there was the cameos from the first three Horsemen which was so exciting.

Daddy Pestilence was now really a daddy. Like literally a dad with growing white hair and wisdom of (human) age. It was WEIRD hearing him being called grandpa, but he’s still my champion. Most shocking of all though, was FAMINE. I didn’t remember him being this funny in his book!!! But I... liked him in this one. Also, I really liked the ending. I thought it was kinda anti-climactic but also so satisfying at the same time????? And the fact that it took Laz’s death for Death to snap out of it?? Epic!

Read death online free laura thalassa epub

I cant believe the whole time Laz was chasing and running from Death, she was on a freaking bike! I wonder what her calf muscles must’ve looked like after all the exercise. 🚴‍♀️🚴‍♀️ I also wonder what it’s like to be ~penetrated~ by a giant, glowing penis LOL. I thought this was some detail that you’d see on some blue alien smutty romance, and not HERE. 🤡 The angel sex... please not another homage to Rhysand & Feyre’s flying sex. I couldn’t help but imagine all the leaking fluids raining down on the ground. 🤭

The scene where Laz went down on Death... that was probably the most erotic scene I’ve ever read in the history of the apocalypse haha. Something about a woman introducing pleasure to a powerful, but *virgin* immortal was just... idk mindblowing LOL. And Death’s perplexed, astounded reaction was simply priceless. I feel like this installment was so sweet, wholesome, romantic, and emotional, but those emotions didn’t really hit home for me. Idk I enjoyed it, but I didn’t love it. Three stars is too low, and four too high. I really need the 0.5 rating system in this case.

My review of:
#1 Pestilence — 4.25 Stars
#2 War — 3.75 Stars
#3 Famine — 2.5 Stars

My stomach somersaults at the intensity in his eyes.

Thanatos narrows his gaze. Slowly, he smiles.
"I will count to a thousand", he says. "That's as generous as I'm going to be. You can do whatever you'd like in those thousand seconds. I won't fight back, I won't come after you, but once time's up, we'll no longer be playing

***I have received an arc in exchange for an honest review.***

I know you all have been waiting for this moment. Everyday I wake up and someone asks me: "Jonathan, is Daddy Death the sexiest horseman of them all?"
To which I say:

"Get out of my house?? How did you even get here??"

Ahem. I mean: Yes obviously he is the sexiest horseman?? Have you seen the cover of this book??? I am taking my pants off every time I look at him. Why do you even need to ask, it's obvious. LOOK AT HIM!!!!

Reasons why Daddy Death is the sexiest horseman:
- He is Daddy Death (god, I really hope no employers ever see my reviews)
- Finally! A kinky horseman! He is into bondage!
- This scene: "Kneel." Thanatos stares down at me for a long time, that same look in his eyes. Never glancing away, he moves down on one knee, then both." --> Hot. I am not taking questions about this, just deal with it.
- His dick is canonically huge
- He has a sense of humor
- His dirty talk game is on FLEEK
- He has wings. Actually, I don't know why I even needed the other points, this should have been enough
- Actually... You know what... *points at cover* I rest my case.

He's also very horny and this is definitely the most sex filled book out of them all. I swear they only fuck. Even when they don't, they do.

The best thing about Daddy Death though (can someone stop me from saying this): He is a huge softie and I love him. He is so cute and soft and gentle and tender and I wanted to kill him multiple times because he says shit like this: "Serious, beautiful Lazarus", he murmurs. He studies my face like he wants to immortalize it in his mind. "You snatched my loneliness from me", he breathes, "and I hope you never give it back."
Excuse me??? I thought you were supposed to kill humanity with your powers and not kill me by being the softest man on this planet. I didn't ask for feelings!! How dare you!!

I really enjoyed the relationship between Laz and Death. It was kinda insta-lovey at first which annoyed me a bit but I slowly fell in love with them as a couple because they are very cute together and deserve to be loved.
I also really enjoyed the ending and I think it's the perfect wrap-up for the series.

But. :)

Full disclosure: Review and rating are about chapter 44 until the epilogue. I do not want to talk about chapter 1 until 43. There were things that I liked (most Death scenes) but there were a few decisions made about characterization and plot elements that I did NOT enjoy at all (but also can't go into depth about because... spoilers). If I had to rate those chapters it would be a two star rating.

I have decided to ignore those because a. reading some of my highlighted quotes from chapter 1 to 43, I realized that there were actually some moments that I like and b. the rest of the book was so good that I just... When I finished it, this was the only rating that made sense to me.
It probably should be lower but that just wouldn't accurately represent how I feel about it.

TL;DR: 5 stars for Daddy Death.
I might share some of my favourite soft Death Daddy quotes once this is actually out and if I'm not too lazy to do so.

AHHHH!!! I GOT AN ARC!!!!

But I read all of this so I could know if the final book could redeem the last two books. It couldn’t. Like okay, this book was better than the previous one but still Pestilence is the best book of this series.

So let´s get down to it:
•The idea of Lazarus being not able to die was riddiculus to me. Im sorry but I was rolling my eyes and laughing my ass off every time she died and then came back.
*die bitch die*
•Everything was annoying. Mainly the cat and mouse game. I had enough after few pages.
Thanks but no.
•It’s kinda twisted that Lazarus was banging a guy who killed her entire family. Like WTF? I know her “reason” but still. *eye-rolling*

„He’s beautiful, something I can never forget, but holy fuck, I am going to have to bang the hell out of this dude. I should be mad about that. I have every reason to be mad. But I’m not, and that’s somehow even more loathsome.“

•The name Lazarus - I didn’t like it at all. If she was a male, it would be more suitable (or maybe not at all). And it was used too often, like almost on every page. LAZARUS. LAZARUS. LAZARUS.
Ugh.
•Tell me why two of the horsemen were virgins but non of their lovers were? Yeah, I understand why two horsemen never had sex, but there could be at least one of their lovers who would be also a virgin.
But of course not because these women were bad girls who were “tough, bad-ass with rude language” 🙄
•I also disliked that the women were always “the chosen one”. In the first book I didn’t get it like that but then came the sequels and dear god, it annoyed me af - mainly in this book.

„And when I look at you,” he continues. “I wish I could fully sense your soul the way I can other humans. I’m sure I would find that it is strange and lovely. It—you—are a mystery to me, and I am unused to mysteries.“

Edward, is that you?

• Why I always read Death´s name Thanatos as Thanos? 😂🤦🏻‍♀️
• The sex was nowhere half of the book and then it came like wrecking ball from Miley Cyrus. So then it was too much. Like 3 times in every damn chapter. And WTF about the butt stuff?
• But the epilogue got me really bad and I almost cried. It was the best part of the entire book for me.
• Overall it was kinda good ending for this series but Pestilence is my number 1 in my cold heart.
• So I am giving it 3 stars (2, 75) ⭐️

I think this is the best cover of the entire series😍

No one is immune to Death. Everything he passed on dies except for Lazarus Gaumond. They're fated to each other. I purposely dragged on reading this because I enjoyed their rivalry and sexual tension. However, the three horsemen wants to stop death unleashing havoc and only Lazarus can by seducing him. Seduction aside, Lazarus genuinely fall for the horsemen. WHO DOESN'T? Thanatos is a HOTTIE. Just stare at the cover.

The four horsemen reunion just makes me want to drink wine and fangirl over these men. The ending was superb and it almost felt realistic. It's the perfect closure for the series. I'm just here, wailing it is over. How to fill this gap? Recommend me more four horsemen.

Laura Thalassa, thank you for writing this series. I will forever recommend it to everyone.

Did Laura Thalassa wrote this? She went slightly off-style!!!

So this is the most romantic, sexiest book of the series. More sex and more romance 'cuz Death, is a sweetheart, which is not bad per se, these are pandemic times we can do with more romance, but it's slightly confusing 'cuz I love love gory stories and the other horsemen took their women to darkest places where they questioned their morals and the meaning of being human... this series is so so good! Death is also a good book but....

but...

but...

You know that Famine said Death was the most terrible out of the four horsemen? That set me up for unmet expectations:

EXPECTATION

REALITY

Read death online free laura thalassa epub

I feel like having a go at Famine for over-hyping Death's dark traits
*glares at Famine*
*realizes how hot he is*
*Swoons*
Okay I can't get angry at Famine but he for sure overrated his bro. Sure Thanatos was very difficult to stop, but no one was as sadistic and terrifying as Famine himself, which makes Ana's man my favorite of the horsemen followed by Pestilence.

Speaking of which, how cool was that horsemen fight? Uh? I was blown away!! So so good. I also love that Lazarus was always fighting her attraction to Death. If it had been me I would've run to his arms in 0.5 seconds and let humanity screw themselves. Lazarus was a strong h and I love love love her.

Ben got mixed reviews. For me he was meh! He was barely in the book thankfully, it's just that Thalassa sensei is growing older and her target market nowadays skews older with those shirtless covers, and maybe that's also why she missed this great opportunity for dual virgins. Virgins are still my jam, just not stupid virgins, something like Serenity-Montes Or Edh-Beh (Transcendence) works well. I'm practically still a teen I don't mind older stuff, but I prefer new adult stories, cuz for me they're more relatable than single mothers, but older buffs don't always dig virgins and Thalassa is older now, you guys realize she hasn't written a virgin heroine since Serenity? That's a shame but I still will read and pre-order anything she writes cuz Thalassa sensei is always amazing.
#AutomaticBuyAuthor
Did you guys cry? I cried so so much, there were so many moments, like when Lazarus finds her family and the last one she finds is her mother...OMG! that was so heartbreaking, I would've broken down, that's like the worst of my fears, but Lazz licks her wounds and goes after the horseman. I also cried so so much when her mother asked her to leave the dead alone....I felt the fact that just right after that tearjerker moment there's sex was wrong, I didn't like that, but that's not something that takes away from the brilliance of the story, I love Death more than most books I read this year just I had unrealistic expectations and ruined my reading for myself. So many epic moments, that I ruined for myself trying to make Death something that he's not. But when Death takes Lazarus to the land of death and is saying his goodbyes? Oh gosh, that was so so good.

Famine was hilarious, he's the coolest of the four. I also love that the other horsemen looked their age, I imagine hot 40 YO's actors like David Gandy and Henry Cavill playing the older War and Pestilence. GUUYYYYSSS we need to make the mini series adaptation happen, it wouldn't even require the budget of other post apocalyptic series cuz the sets are built already and the extras can wear modern clothes. VFX could be kept at minimal. Low budget+ Good scriptwriter + Four hotties playing horsemen+Netflix= Success!!!

It's funny that so many things didn't work for me at personal level and yet I still love this book so much. I won't go much into detail about it cuz Thalassa's books are always mercilessly targeted by the losers of the literary agencies and they have conections within the Goodreads staff. But they can't hurt Thalassa sensei's sales now, the book did great the first week and the 45 day new releases window has passed so now I can talk about this freely without hurting Thalassa sensei a.k.a. #WritingGoddess #AutomaticPurchaseAuthor. Basically I shouldn't be so nitpicky cuz this book is good, it's just that usually when something bothers me I skim over it or DNF, but this time I couldn't cuz this book is so so good and I would've missed out all the numerous moments of greatness, if I had skimmed. It's kinda like what happened when I read another genius book: Land of the beautiful dead.
https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
My review of Land of the Beautiful dead is here what I said about it applies to this one too. I personally would've loved if there had been less sex, or more like the sex shouldn't distract us from the darkest scenes, I also felt this time this could've been a contemporary read with Death being a mafia lord and not a horseman and you wouldn't be able to tell the difference, the other books felt so unique and Death was more standard mafia romance, I love mafia lords but contemporary isn't my cuppa. But I truly love the book and most of my friends received a recommendation to read Pestilence, I'll keep recommending the book until we have a Netflix series. Nobody should miss out this greatness!!!
Long story short: GUYYYSS You need to read this series! I'm gonna miss my hot horsemen so much.

My favorite author, Her best work, My favorite series, Now it's OVER.😭

So why did I give the book 4 stars???

Since this is the final book in the series, I was expecting more action and a more epic ending. And it has been repeatedly mentioned that life and death are lovers, but it is not clear who is meant by "life" here. The story would have been more stronger if the female protagonist had been portrayed more clearly. But that didn’t mean I loved this book any less. I absolutely enjoyed Death and

The story would have been more stronger if the female protagonist had been portrayed more clearly. But that didn’t mean I loved this book any less. I absolutely enjoyed Death and Lazarus's unique love-hate story and their unusual fights. The presence of the rest of the horsemen made it even more exciting. And their conversation? My God... it was quite pleasurable to read. Especially my favorite Mr.pestilence, or should I say, Victor. Laura Thalassa has created some extraordinary characters in her book that will be remembered for a lifetime.

Life and Death are lovers.

I'll admit, I liked this A LOT more than I thought I would. I even cried during the epilogue.

I have to say, there's very little that caught me by surprise with this one. A lot of it was almost exactly the same as the previous three books. Not that that surprised me at all, I actually expected it. What I didn't expect, however, were all the new things Laura Thalassa added to her books. Like D

I have to say, there's very little that caught me by surprise with this one. A lot of it was almost exactly the same as the previous three books. Not that that surprised me at all, I actually expected it. What I didn't expect, however, were all the new things Laura Thalassa added to her books. Like Death having more POVs, from the beginning of the book, than the other Horsemen combined. Not that it was enough. I definitely needed more than I got but, oh well...🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️ Also, I really appreciated that Death didn't immediately "kidnap" Lazarus (awesome name for a girl btw) and she "kidnapped" him, instead. Although, I should probably state here that I acknowledge this is NOT a normal behavior between love interests but it's erotica so who really cares...🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️ I mean, he also killed her entire family just by passing through the town and she still had sex with him...and fell in love with him...👀👀 Aaaaanyway, I appreciated the switch. It was getting a bit monotonous. They also "kidnapped" each other multiple times until it finally stuck and they stayed together. Not to mention that they both literally killed each other multiple times, as well. Yeeahh, Lazarus kept coming back to life...she was literally deathless. (In case you couldn't tell from her name alone)

Also also, it took a lot longer for Death to be convinced to stop the Apocalypse than usual. Lazarus' love was not enough...until she asked God to strip her of her deathless powers and she stabbed herself in the chest and died....not for long, though...DUH Just long enough to teach Death the lesson. Another AWESOMENESS in the book was that ALL THE HORSEMEN WERE THERE. OMG, you guys. When they appeared on paper I Completely. Lost. My. Fucking. Shit. I love them soo damn much!! Even asshole Famine. It should be a crime, though, that the previous MCs didn't show up in the book...except at the very end. I was so bummed by this. They deserved to be there, DAMMIT!! I was willing to forgive that, however, because the epilogue was FUCKING INCREDIBLE. Bittersweet and AMAZING. It hurt me and unmade me and I loved every damn sentence. It was in Death's POV, too. And everyone passed before him. But then he passed, too. And then found them again. 😭😭OMG I'm welling up again😭😭 I need to change the subject immediately.

Well, there's not a lot to say about the characters, Lazarus and Death. They are just about exactly the same as the other MCs. Really, there's barely any difference at all. Lazarus: stubborn, horny, brave to the point of stupidity. Death: stubborn, ridiculously attractive, his penis overpowered his divine purpose. I mean sure, Death and Lazarus resisted more (Laz her feelings for Death and Death to abandon his purpose)Also, Lazarus couldn't die. Like Death literally couldn't take her soul away, which was pretty cool. Their hate-fuck energy was breathtaking. Oh, and Death killed her entire family and she still boned him, so....yeah...that was just about it.

The power of the vagina prevailed, again. Seriously, it was explicitly stated multiple times in the book, too.

Go read this, it's ridiculous. I highly recommend it.

After years of waiting we've finally come to the epic conclusion of Ms Thalassa's Horsemen series and the crowd.... yawns and shrugs.

In my opinion this installment was a mess. A lot of tell-but-not-show, overly repetitive dialogue and scenes, and the whiplash of the MC's emotions had me going "what the fuck" for a majority of it. But i should clearly state:

This is the best book I've read in some time, and it was thoroughly enjoyable from beginning to end. (which is saying something b

This is the best book I've read in some time, and it was thoroughly enjoyable from beginning to end. (which is saying something because reading in 2021 has been a total dumpster fire)

Buttttttttt...

I think it could have been better. I thought adding in a child felt forced and underdeveloped. The first 1/4 of the book was dedicated to the MC's killing each other, when that time could have been spent showing the audience how important baby Ben was going to be to Lazarus instead of just telling us a bunch of times.

Also, I was disappointed with Deaths temperament. I was hoping for an indifferent bad boy with a heart of gold and instead I got a total marshmallow that couldn't think for himself. It was very instalove and not in the good way. The past 3 books i found myself GRIPPING onto my ipad for dear life because the tension was THAT hot. For Death and Laz.... a big ol shrug.

And one more thing.... the author totally jipped Sara, Miriam, and Ana!!!!!! We got a decent amount of time with the other horsemen but jeeeezzzzz this author really slighted the past female MC's!!! The women have always been the stars of the show (in my eyes) and I felt without them in it, it left the book feeling unresolved.

While I was slightly dissapointed, I did still enjoy it and this series has a firm place on my favorites shelf. It's a series I'll keep coming back to just for the writing style and character development. For all the crud that gets released at this time, this book is an uncut gem amongst a bunch of dirt. It had the passion and intensity that I've been longing for. It had a smart heroine AND a respectful, loving hero. I cant ask for much more than that. I highly recommend to anyone thats looking for a solid romance.

Safety:
No cheating/no other people after meeting/no separation once they're together.
Hero is a virgin, heroine is not
No OW/OM drama
Some violence (the MC's do kill each other a few times)
HEA with a decent epilogue

I've. Been. Struggling. Damn, it took time, dedication, and pure obstinacy to finish this. So yea, not me getting disappointed once again, about one of my anticipated releases this year no less 🥰 Some spoilers ahead

Lazarus: I’m fighting for humanity!!! Also Lazarus: knew Thanatos was following and searching for her. Her genius brain: going to every big city she can find 🥲 Honey what did you think would happen?? I can’t with this girl

I’m not sure if it’s the fact that this is the fourth book of the same shit happening again, although this one was "spiced up" with a baby trope. I’m not gonna lie, NOT a big fan. Didn’t last for long though, thank god (yes the baby survived don't fret). I don’t know what I expected? More than this at least. But what I do know is that these books are too long, like, when I’M getting tired of smut, it's not a good sign. I was seriously begging them to stop at one point

Plus, the inaccuracies of this book omg. As a med-student it drove me mad.
"Children fight off these severe infections all the time" no ma’am, bacterial meningitis is fatal and, you apparently didn’t even take an LP to check for more accuracy… idk.
Another thing: Laz lies IMPALED for days without dying. I was like ok, maybe her healing is really fucking fast then. Then she takes an arrow to her chest and dies before bleeding out, and ofc it wouldn’t take long, but it makes no sense to survive DAYS impaled 🤡 unless she doesn’t have human anatomy idk.

And why the hell couldn't she die anyway?? It was just like... let's make her immortal without any explanation whatsoever

And Thanatos getting his big revelation 🤡 "Life means love" ARE YOU JOKING WITH ME, is this what we've been reduced to?

I'm tired

for my first fantasy romance series, this was awesome! personally, this series is better read back-to-back-to-back

I say that because I was able to develop attachment for these characters and I can't help but notice that the people who loved the first book didn't enjoy each preceding book as much. That attachment kinda dim with time, and the wait is so fucking long.

“Death and life, caught in an eternal embrace,” he explains.
“They look like lovers,” I whisper.
“They are lovers.” His eyes find mine, and I swear they can see straight to my soul.

This book's last few chapters was kinda over the top, but I mean, what fantasy/paranormal series doesn't end that way? That's part of the appeal in my eyes.

“I find myself longing for another reason to hold you close.”

When I said Pestilence reminded me of Lucifer , this book more so. Especially with the wings and the fact that Lazarus was a gift from God.

She can withstand death, which means …
She’s creation. Life

Also, I'm not a religious person, atheist actually, but if god was portrayed as a woman in the bible like SHE was on here, I could get on board with the whole religion thing.

“My love for you is eternal and unfaltering, Lazarus. Do not doubt that. Stars will form and die, and what I feel for you will remain undimmed.”

I am terrified of heights, like absolutely pass-out-at-the-sight-of-a-skyscraper kind. So the scenes where they're flying? I'm not even gonna lie when I tell you that I had to close my eyes and calm myself for a couple of seconds.

“You snatched my loneliness from me,” he breathes, “and I hope you never give it back.”

There was a scene where they were doing it in the air and I got on board with that. What irked me a bit was imagining all those fluids just dropping (just disgusting), but the air fucking was pretty steamy ngl.

“I want to see the expression your face makes when it’s happy. I don’t know why, but I do. I have seen you angry and hateful and disappointed and sad—so sad—Lazarus. I want to see what stokes the fire in that soul of yours and lights you up from within.”

It's been almost five weeks since I've finished this and the details are fuzzy af in my brain, so I apologize if that's not much details.

Even if it takes centuries, even if you and I are the last creatures in existence, I vow to you this: I will get you to love me—mind, body, and heart.

I enjoyed this thoroughly, especially after reading all the other books, one after the other. My first fantasy romance and it was bomb AF.

PS. Death and Lazarus, I love. Famine and Ana, I like. But jesus christ, the fire between Lazarus and Famine!!! My god! 🥵 I want an alternate book where these two get together 🤷

The book was good. I liked the writing and the plot development. All the characters were compelling in their own way, and made the read enjoyable.

-But, was this a perfect book?
-Sadly, no.

I certainly had some issues with it, hence the lower rating. There were some discrete plot holes, and slight lapses in characters' logic. Not to mention the book was dragging out and it felt repetitive in more than one way. Also the dynamic between our leads, where the heroine is trying to be cool and detached while the hero is half pining, half groveling for her is something I've already seen in other Thalassa's books, regardless of the four horsemen, and it has become tiring to read.

Nonetheless, I liked the story.

This was a good finale to the series, even though I wish we could have seen more of the horsemen and their wives and kids. I hope Laura will provide us with some glimpses of that in the future.

I've been eagerly awaiting this book, and it was SO freaking worth the wait. If you have not started The Four Horsemen series by Laura Thalassa, I HIGHLY recommend it. Death is the final book in this series.

Death really takes you on an emotional roller coaster. It's a post-apocalyptic romance, and like the previous books, it heavily focuses on the two main characters—in this case Thanatos and Lazarus—which I absolutely love. As much as I adore side characters in books, I really love it when the focus is on the hero and heroine together. Lazarus, who can't die, is the one soul Thanatos doesn't recognize...and the one soul he can't claim. And it's up to her to try to convince him to stop his quest of ridding the world of human life. And how does she do that? Well, you'll have to read to find out. :D

Seriously. Laura's heroines, while sometimes villainous, I'm always a sucker for. I adore her dialogue and the depth of the love her heroes have for the ones they fall for. These stories are so heartbreakingly beautiful. And this was a wonderful finale to an amazing series.

That is how all the other books have gone. The first book of the series was the most interesting because you didn't know what to expect but each subsequent books had the same recurring theme so it got boring fast.

Bottom line is if you've read one book in this series then you've read them all. All the cameos from the brothers could not make this book even remotely interesting.
