Prince Merlin is the male protagonist of the South Korean film Red Shoes and the Seven Dwarfs. He is Snow White's very cute love interest. He is the leader of the group of famous, heroic young men called the Fearless Seven, which consists of him, Arthur, Jack, Hans, and Pino, Noki, and Kio. Appearance[]As a human, Merlin is a slim, fair-skinned young man whom Arthur describes as "pretty." He has short, silky dark brown hair with bangs and hazel brown eyes. His attire consists of a long, blue button-up coat, dark grey pants, and knee-high, dark brown boots. The coat has brown buttons with an embroidered swirling pattern following down the center front on both sides, and a lightning bolt on each side of the high collar. He keeps the sleeves rolled up, revealing the coat's white lining. A brown leather belt is buckled around his waist, and over that belt is a thinner, tan belt with a pouch that holds his spells. His leather boots have thin, light brown straps wrapped around them. As a dwarf, Merlin is much shorter and chubbier, with a rounder nose, large ears, and light green skin. Personality[]Merlin is a very charming and confident man. He is also very courageous, willing to risk and even sacrifice his life for the people he cares about. However, he is also vain and overly concerned with outward appearances, seeming to attribute a large part of his worth to his looks. He gradually unlearns this mindset as he befriends and falls in love with Snow White. Ultimately, he has a good, kind heart and wants to help people. As he gets closer to Snow White, Merlin reveals a playful, dorkier side, making faces and speaking in funny voices to make her laugh. Story[]Merlin is the leader of the F7, a group that combats monsters and beasts on Fairy Tale Island. However, after Merlin and his comrades accidentally mistake the Fairy Princess for a witch and attack her, they are cursed to become green dwarfs whenever people look at them. The only way to break the curse is to be kissed by the most beautiful woman in the world. When Merlin first meets Snow White as Red Shoes, he is immediately infatuated with her beauty and resolves to help her find her father, hoping that she'll kiss him in return. Though his advances fall short at first, he and Snow White grow close. When they are alone together, Merlin repeatedly expresses how eager he is for Red Shoes to see the "real" him, despite her explaining that she already likes him as he is. Sometime after delivering missing person posters and landing in the woods, Merlin and Snow White kiss for the first time; however, he doesn't transform back into a human, leaving him severely disappointed. They are then attacked by monsters (who are actually a transformed Prince Average and his bodyguards). Merlin defeats them with his magic; however, he is then dragged off a cliff and into the water by Prince Average and trapped underneath a boulder, where he nearly drowns. Snow White rescues him after taking off the red shoes. When Merlin wakes up and finally sees Snow White's real self, he is shocked and conflicted, as well as ashamed when she points out that he wouldn't have helped her if she wasn't Red Shoes. Later that night, he leaves the campsite to collect more firewood and think, realizing that Snow White actually likes him as a dwarf. When Regina kidnaps Snow White, he immediately goes after her and gets captured by the Magic Mirror inside the castle. He eventually escapes with the help of his friends and tackles Regina off the side of the castle tower, causing lightning to strike the two of them and defeating her. Pino, Noki, and Kio save Merlin and bring him to Snow White, and he tells her that she is the beautiful woman in the world before passing out. She kisses him, and this time, the curse is broken. Some time after the events of the movie, Snow White and Merlin get married and later on have a son. Skills[]Master Spellcaster: Merlin can cast wordless magic by using spell charms, though he usually uses lightning-based spells as his main attack. He can also activate them when he is nearby or far away, as long as he claps his palms together (or snaps his fingers). Lightning Manipulation: Merlin can maintain and manipulate lightning into various shapes and forms (as the whip, the lasso, and even the blast of energy). Intellectual Prowess: Merlin is an expert technician (though his plans backfire every now and then).
