Redken Color Extend Blondage before and after

Back in March, I attended a Redken ‘Own The Tone’ event at Style Club, South William Street. I was treated to a hair colour consultation and wash and blow-dry using specially selected Redken products. As both a natural and colour enhanced blonde, managing brassiness is always my biggest hair concern, so Redken’s Color Extend Blondage range was perfect for me.

The Redken Color Extend Blondage shampoo and conditioner are formulated to tone and strengthen blonde hair. The products work together to neutralise brassy tones and strengthen the hair to prevent breakage. It protects your colour and helps to maintain a clean, bright blonde tone.

Redken Color Extend Blondage Shampoo

This violet-pigmented shampoo has colour-correcting properties and cleanses the hair to eliminate brassy/yellow tones from blonde hair. It is infused with Triple Acid Protein Complex which helps to nourish and strengthen the hair, preventing breakage while also leaving a lovely shine.

Redken Color Extend Blondage conditioner

This moisturising conditioner also contains violet pigments, assisting in neutralising yellow tones from blonde hair. The light-weight formula leaves the hair feeling super soft and smooth, not to mention smelling amazing!

using the range

I was gifted the Redken Color Extend Blondage shampoo and conditioner and have been consistently using them since the event (6 months). As this range contains violet pigments, I use it in conjunction with my normal shampoo and conditioner no more than once per week.

I shampoo using my regular shampoo first to remove any greasiness and thoroughly clean my hair. Then, I follow with the Redken Color Extend Blondage shampoo. I use an amount, about the size of a one euro coin, and apply it from root to ends. I leave this for about 5-10 minutes.

When this time has passed, I rinse thoroughly using warm water. When the water is running clear, I apply a similar amount of Redken Color Extend Blondage Conditioner to the mid-lengths and ends. I leave this to work it’s magic for another 5 minutes and comb through before rinsing out.

the verdict

The Redken ‘Own The Tone’ event took place right before lockdown kicked in, so it was pretty good timing. The range has kept my colour looking so fresh and bright, that I haven’t rushed back to my salon to get my hair done just yet.

The Redken Color Extend Blondage shampoo doesn’t leave my hair feeling straw-like and weak, which I have experienced with purple shampoos in the past. Instead, my hair feels nourished, strong and brighter than before.

I still have over half a bottle of both shampoo and conditioner left, so you should get about 10-12 months out of them, which I think is a great selling point.

I was sent the complete Color Extend Blondage collection courtesy of the brand and had to test it out myself to see if this is not only the best shampoo for blonde hair but also the best conditioner for blonde hair. To take my hair-brightening routine one step further, I wanted something I could use in between actual hair-washing days too, so I opted to try out the hair mask in the shade violet + blue as part of the system.

How Do I Use Redken Color Extend Blondage?

First, apply the shampoo to wet hair, lather, and rinse well. Leave the lather on for three to five minutes for maximum benefits to let it settle in. Redken suggests using gloves because each product is so pigmented that it could stain your hands. Following a lather and rinse of the shampoo, apply the Color Extend Blondage Conditioner—the best conditioner for blonde hair. Leave it in for three to five minutes, and rinse thoroughly.

Next, towel dry hair just a bit. Then apply the Color Extend Blondage mask to neutralize brass a step further while deeply conditioning hair. Comb through it to make sure it’s evenly distributed. Leave on for five to 10 minutes (five minutes for subtle deposit and up to 10 minutes for maximum deposit), and then rinse out.

Leave the mask on longer for an ashier look, or rinse sooner for just a quick color pick-me-up—no need to worry about breakage if you choose to keep it on for the full 10 minutes. How Often Should You Use Redken Color Extend Blondage?

While working from home for the past two years, I started aiming to wash my hair only two times per week. Redken recommends only using the Color Extend Blondage system one to two times per week, so this ties in perfectly with my hair-washing schedule.

But if you’re like me and only wash your hair twice a week, according to Redken artist Adina Doss, you can use the system just once a week to keep your hair bright. It can also be mixed in with your regular shampoo to provide some brass-fighting pigment without overdoing it adds Redken Artist Jaclyn Harwood .

My Redken Color Extend Blondage Review

I was shocked at how soft and shiny my hair was after even just my first use of the Redken Color Extend Blondage system. It was clear after one use that the shampoo and conditioner duo were effective, but after doubling down by adding the mask in the shade Icy Blonde to my hair-washing routine, I was sold. (I also noticed the system slightly lightened up my naturally dark roots, so they more seamlessly transitioned into my blonde balayage.)

After several more uses, I can’t imagine not having this shampoo, conditioner, and mask in rotation. I could literally feel the typically dry texture of my hair softening with each use while it was simultaneously ridding my hair of that brassy hue that haunts me in between salon visits. I can finally stop losing sleep over my search for the best purple shampoo because I found something better—a complete “purple” hair care system that every bottle blonde needs to fake their dream locks.
