Whitefish Mountain Resort

Rustic condos at a full-service ski resort with summer mountain biking, hiking & zip-lining.

Slide 1 of 5

Whitefish, Montana is a quaint little town about 25 miles west of the West Glacier entrance. That drive is well worth it if you have the opportunity to stay at the Whitefish Mountain Resort. Whitefish Mountain Resort is a ski mountain, but has a ton of activities to do during the summer months as well.

This intimate mountain inn adds romance and charm to any occasion, or solitude and relaxation to business gatherings. The quiet, comfortable surroundings of Kandahar lend special pleasure to work and play. Rooms are accessible via stairs only.

Plenty of runs and wasn’t too crowded for right after Christmas. My kids and I enjoyed this mountain. There are more than enough instructors to go around if you’re in need of lessons such as my youngest did. Great place to start them young. Chauncey was awesome to work with and helped out enormously teaching me some things as well. I noticed that all of the instructors were super cool with the kids and made everyone’s time great! Will return 🔟🔟

This is our first time in Montana and we chose whitefish mountain because of its location. We were very happy with the accommodations at the local resort and the lodge itself is very roomy with lots of fires! The ski school was great for the kids to learn to snowboard for the first time! We took lessons and went on some of the easier runs. We plan on going to two or three more over the next couple of days. The lodge is beautiful and the prices are more than reasonable! Great value for a family vacation

Fantastic variety. No one will be complaining. Trees galore, moguls galore, steep, gradual and choices to choose all in a single run from Summit (chair 2). Easier stuff on chair 3 along with terrain park and half pipe. Chair 11 should be experts only as all blues require a lot of double poling. Cute chutes throughout. Better value than any Colorado bargain hills.

A unique & award-winning micro distillery in Coram MT, just minutes from Glacier's west entrance. Enjoy our Tasting Room and Retail outlet for whiskey, bourbon, vodka & more.

This was a fun spot to stop by and do a tasting at. You get to choose 4 spirits/whiskeys and it only cost 5 bucks. The huckleberry whiskey was the best in my opinion! The atmosphere was great and the service was amazing. Everyone was super friendly and informative. Worth checking out!

Can’t go wrong with 4 tastings for $5! Friendly staff, large selection of interesting and tasty whiskeys, I particularly liked the huckleberry whiskey. There was also a friendly dog who wanted to play fetch.

This place was awesome. We went there with the whole family and they took good care of us. The pretzels were a great idea to have so you can clean your pallet between samples. Tried alot of different liqueurs and all were nice. We really enjoyed the fireweed, cherry cello but our favorite was the Starry night. Need to find out if they ship out of state so we can get more.

Conrad Mansion Museum

Guides in period dress offer tours of this sprawling home, built in 1895 & fully restored.

Slide 1 of 3

Fascinating place with original furniture, clothing and toys. The guided tour is very worthwhile.

We took the guided tour. It was amazing. Original everything inside the house, from clothing and jewelry to cookware and electrical appliances. I wish they had offered group rates, we went with a family of 5. It was a bit pricey.

The Conrad mansion is a beautiful piece of Kalispell's history and their gardens are great for a picnic or a small stroll. They've redone their gardens recently and they did a beautiful job. I've been on their tours a few times too which are all really interesting. Their Christmas tour is especially magical since the mansion is decorated beautifully evey year. My husband and I actually got married there so you could say we're a little biased!

Bigfork Summer Playhouse

Performing arts theater

Concerts & Shows

Theaters

Rising college-age stars perform in popular Broadway musicals at this summer stock theater.

Slide 1 of 3

In full disclosure before I review, my daughter is a cast member. We travelled to see her perform in all four shows. My husband and I kept saying to each other after every show "...no one is going to believe us back home when we tell them how absolutely professional and amazing these shows are". Our family has seen a good bit of theatre over the last 5 years (and paid much more for tickets) and are so incredibly impressed with the quality of the Bigfork Summer Playhouse shows that we just saw. The choreography was top-notch! Vocals absolutely stellar! Transitions were seamless. The live musicians were excellent. Also, I am not sure when/if I have ever seen better acting! Drowsy Chaperone was hysterical...the whole audience was laughing most of the time. Joseph was a delight on many levels. Seven Brides for Seven Brothers was simply beautiful. Mama Mia was so great that we were still singing the songs in the car on the way home. I will most certainly follow the careers of many of these actors to watch for their inevitable successes professionally!

We had a wonderful time watching Elf. They need to have roped lines for waiting in line though or some sort of organization. We went in the door thinking we had to exchange our on line tickets as that's the notification we got but found out we didn't. We were waiting for our daughter to park and join up with us & just stood inside. We saw the lady selling tickets say something so I went over to see what she said, she basically told us the line was in one spot (the lobby was PACKED) so NO ONE coming in knew where the line was, and that we were ALL crowding. Well if that's the case the solution would be to have some direction before it gets to that point in the lobby. It's winter folks no one wants to wait out in the cold. Other than that it was so festive & a great show. I would love to help out if you need.....

I like the feel of the place, it was nice seeing the shows. They need to fire the old lady at the front. $72 over the course of two days, and she was crotchety and angry both times.

Slide 1 of 3

We did a 2 hour tour out of Many Glacier to Cracker Flats. Our guide was Dita. We had a great time! They staff goes over all the safety guidelines, helped my short person stature up on my horse. Dita was very informative and engaging throughout the ride and we get a cute pictures at the end. If you do not regularly ride a horse, I would suggest the one or two hour ride because it is a workout! It was the perfect excursion for something different on my husbands birthday. Highly recommend!

Incredible trip! Took the 3 day pack trip ~15 miles in. Coming from Chicago, the views were breathtaking. The experience was rewarding. Although our group was comfortable in the outdoors based on previous camping, we had barely any riding experience prior to this. Don’t let that stop you if you were like us. The guides (Nelson and Kevin) were informative, reaffirming, and listened. They took whatever concern you had seriously, and addressed it to ensure you were comfortable. It truly is your trip and what you want to do. Our camp cook, Stephanie, made fantastic meals, but we also found ourselves sitting at the table or riding the trails sharing stories with her. She was amazing. The rides can be hard at times—very steep inclines/switchbacks. But, you need to and learn to trust your horse. They’re incredible animals—literal athletes in every sense—that the outfitters truly care for and you learn to truly respect/admire. The horses have done these trails hundreds of times, so you quickly learn to trust what you learn during your orientation, but more importantly, trust your horse when technical parts of the trail come in front. Only negative/feedback I would give to SMO is to be more clear on tipping at the end of the trip. Although stated on the site and materials provided, it was still confusing at the end of the trip. All because we wanted to make sure we were compensating everyone appropriately for an amazing trip! Just caused a little frustration among the larger group but nothing to deter from this experience. You’ll see views you would never be able to see any other way. You’ll experience new, sometimes challenging but always rewarding, things when it comes to the ride. And, you’ll make some friends along the way. Recommending to all my friends/family. Thank you SMO! Will not forget this trip.

We took a 2 hour horse ride tour. Our tour guide Ethan was super informative. The horses were in really good shape and well trained. The tour was on time and really a pleasant experience

Slide 1 of 3

We had a great 2 days on the river with Montana River Guides. Mike, Caleb, Amy and Squid were amazing guides for our Rafting and River Boarding trips. They are not only professional and focus on safety, but are insanely fun people too. And if you have done White Water Rafting and want to take your adventure to the next level, River Boarding is amazingly fun, and these guys will get you down the river in ways you've never imagined. Go to Montana and meet this team, they rock!

My family and I had an epic time rafting the Clark Fork river with Montana River Guides today. Our guide Caleb (pictured below) made sure we had a fun and memorable time blasting through gnarly rapids, relaxing on the lazy flats, and cliff-jumping into the river. The scenery is second to none and there a lot of eagles and ospreys flying around. The lunch provided was delish (except for the rasberry-lime sparkling water—yuck). Lunch consisted of a bacon and turkey wrap, chips, a drink, and a cookie. This was also a great trip for older children and adults. If you’re ever in Missoula during rafting season, book a trip with Montana River Guides.

Amazing guides, super fun times on the river, highly recommend!! We just spent 2 days on the river with Montana River Guides & we couldn’t be happier about our experience! Day 1 did a rafting trip down the river. Aimee & Quaid were the most fun & friendly guides for our adventure, filling the trip with excitement, guidance & plenty of jokes! Day 2 we went for some river boarding! What a fun & immersive way to experience the river! This was a completely new experience for most of us and with Mike & Caleb as our guides we were in the best hands. They lead us safely through & did such a great job explaining how the river flows and what to watch for. We had a blast going head first through all the rapids & gliding along! Can’t say enough good things about the 2 days & our guides! Can’t wait to come back & hit the river with them again!

Very cool space on the edge of the Clark Fork River. Just went to check it out as a volunteer army hand-carved the beautiful horses and dragons. Great place to take kids with a cool playground outside called the Dragon’s Hollow.

Kinda bummed the playground was closed.. very surprised they were pushing masks on children.. If they are going to do such a thing.. they should practice cleaning the facility instead... it's OUTSIDE anyways.. in heat.. it's kinda ridiculous.. kids had fun, but mine weren't going to put a mask on... but A child is telling me I needed to wear one?? It kinda ruins the experience...

I love this place. I loved it as a small child and now I had the joy of bringing my own children here. The playground is amazing and it's such a magical place.

Garnet Ghost Town

Ghost town

Sights & Landmarks

Preserved 1890s gold-mining town home to compact log cabins with period furnishings.

Slide 1 of 4

Over a dozens buildings preserved in a state of 'arrested decay' transport you back to the gold rush days, when cities were built overnight and vanished almost as quickly. Visit the site any time roads are clear, but select structures are opened for exploration during visiting hours.

Great ghost town, well preserved, and one of the best in the state.. Tons to see and there are placards around the town, explaining what this once lively mining town was like. There are over 25 buildings in the ghost town. You are free to roam around and explore the buildings and town. Depending on the time of year, the 10 mile or so dirt road may be like an amusement ride with the washboard roads.

If you want a "real" ghost town experience, this is for you. This town is well preserved and mostly abandoned with cool artifacts and wonderful structures. You can almost feel the presence of the past around you without crazy tourist traps etc. Just watch the road, come in via Dublin Gulch and Route 200.

Coming from 200 the gravel road wasn't an issue with our full size rental car. Really neat place to walk around and explore. The information placards and the visitors guide were very detailed about the history of the mining and the town. It was a very fun way to spend the morning.

We bought two buckets of gravel for $40 each to sort through and found several cuttable stones. Our second bucket had an unusually high amount of sapphires, so be aware that your mileage may vary. They charge reasonable prices and make it straightforward to find sapphires. It was absolutely thrilling to find gemstones. The gravel was raw, muddy, and brown at first, not loaded with polished stones like some tourist destinations do to make people feel special. The way the gravel is sorted by the attendants pushes almost all of the sapphires to the top of the gravel pile when the sieve is flipped onto the table. This makes for a great experience, because multiple sapphires are usually visible before starting the longer part of the hunt. If you'd like your sapphires/garnets cut, they are currently experiencing a one year wait because of how many customers get in line.

Had so much fun, Travis was incredibly helpful and has such a great sense of humor!! Thank you for the recommendation of the scenic drive, my husband and I had the best adventure today. Gem Mountain is a must visit!!

Visited this store very much by accident and very happy about that. Rock and Gem stores are by far my favourite and Gem Mountain did not disappoint. Prices were about par, but they have a great selection of unique items.

Old Montana Prison & Auto Museum Complex

Slide 1 of 3

We stopped here on our road trip and it has been one of my kids favorite places. The cars were really cool and there were a lot of them. After we toured the cars we went to the prison and my teenagers absolutely loved it. You get to wonder around throughout the whole thing without being bothered. It made it so we didn't have any pressure and could play stupid games. The staff was great and the town is fun too, if you are thinking about stopping it is worth it.

Looks like a super cool place with lots of things to do. It was closed when we got there.(January 2022) It seems to be a good thing to do in a town where "there is nothing to do" we stopped on a road trip and were sad that it was not open. Sign said their season begins Feb 4th. We still walked around the building and enjoyed the architecture they've added. There seems to be some kind of fair ground right next to it too. It's probably where they hold city events. Parking was very very unclear. We might have parked in a field, I have no idea. Overall, I'd love to visit again when it is open if we are ever going through town.

We used to ask Grandma if she went to college. She said she graduated from MSP, a private girls school out west. Little did we know her alma mater was the Montana State Penitentiary in Deer Lodge. What an amazing place. The car museum goes on and on with a collection of cars that has to be valued in the millions. The old prison grounds are interesting and the buildings are spooky yet give a real sense of what it must have been like inside. The self guided tour had plenty of info and stops with unbelievable and very interesting facts. Bring the family and check it out. As for grandma, she wouldn’t get out of the van while the family saw the sites. She said she wasn’t going back behind those walls. Unreal. Anyway, check it out. Btw, I bet many came to know Jesus in the little chapel there. Pretty cool and Jesus does save. From behind bars to eternity, I can’t imagine!

World Museum of Mining

Local history museum

Museums

An attraction offering a re-creation of an 1890s mining town, mine tours & exhibits on mining tools.

Slide 1 of 4

Butte has an extensive mining history, visible even as you drive, so if you have additional time in Butte consider visiting the World Museum of Mining or Mineral Museum. Another activity we wished was had time for was the Trolley Tour of Uptown Butte, which seemed like a fun way to learn about the history of the city. We did have time for a little geocache, which led us to a pretty little garden and one of the signature “headframes” of Butte which are remnants of the city’s copper mining history.

This is another must-do adventure if you’re in the Butte area! It is a very well put together museum and has exhibits of what a mining town would have looked like back in the 1800s plus actual copper and silver mining artifacts and platforms. There are a lot of exhibits to see covering a large outside area. There is also an actual old mine that you can tour, but that does require a separate ticket and is usually booked-up several days in advance, so it’s best to reserve your spot online. The mine tour takes you down about 100 feet into the mine, and is an exceptional experience and learning adventure. It is great for kids also, but not small children. It also is a fairly steep decline into the mine, and is pitch dark. They do provide you with helmets that have attached lights on them, but this was a fully working mine and is currently used to train mining students at Montana Tech. While they do everything to keep you safe, there are a lot of obstacles, and you have to be focused and have your wits about you. I would not recommend the mine tour if you’re claustrophobic or have other health ailments. It is also about 45° once you get down to 100 feet. But there is still plenty to do and see even if you don’t do don’t mine tour. They also have a lot of events going on during the summer, so check their website. The museum is also getting ready to start their haunted mine tours, so look for events and details on their website.

I love this museum. This was my second time visiting and I loved getting to share it with my family. This is a great stop for kids with so much to look at, interact with, and just the immense amount of space it takes up. It takes a little over an hour (and thats with speed reading signs!). I have never done the actually underground tour but it's on my to do list now.

This was a fun place to go. There is an old time mining town to wander through. Kid friendly. There is an underground mining tour that is a lot of fun but I, personally, wouldn't take young children on it because of the steep grades and darkness of being underground. The only light is from the light on the hard hat everyone is wearing. At one point the light is turned off. This is a an excellent experience to see the reality of an old time mining town and experience a mine.

Sights & Landmarks

This former copper-mine viewing point overlooks the huge open pit, now flooded with water.

Slide 1 of 3

Way bigger than we expected! You can see the waste water plant from the viewing stand, there's a lot of interesting informational signage, and we heard these echoing monitoring stations, not sure what they were for, but I intend to find out. Pretty cheap entry too.

Arrived but was unable to get in. Google maps said it was open. Sign on the door said they should be open according to hours posted. Obviously hasn't been open for a while from the notes of the people showing up and also being disappointed to find them closed. The management should probably update their signs on the building to reflect the actual hours open.

Have been here a few times. Always interesting to see. I think the informational displays at the viewing area are due to be updated and modernized. Difficult to read through the messy glass, and the info is quite dated. It also can get extremely windy in the viewing area, FYI

Slide 1 of 4

After you head out of Big Sky, your next stop would be West Yellowstone. Take note that if you need gas, get it in Big Sky. There is nothing between Big Sky and West Yellowstone.

We live so close (Rexburg) that I can't believe we haven't been up here before. Although seeing it in fall colors made for a heck of a first impression. I've been posting photos on social media from around Idaho this week, yet these photos of Mesa Falls seem to generate the biggest, most positive response. Maybe my out-of-state friends (like me, until this visit) didn't know such an impressive falls was here. The trail is easy, and I like both the accessible option and the stairs option. Whoever designed the observation points did a great job. and everything is maintained perfectly. We will definitely be bringing out of state visitors up here, now that we know how beautiful this place is. $5 per car, or our interagency annual pass got us in for free.

Cool Falls on the way to Yellostone National Park, the trails are really well maintained too along with visitor center …

Great place to see an amazing water fall. Easy trail on a wood walking path.

Wow awesome!! So cool to see the world's last nuclear reactor!! Wow 👌 amazing!! So glad we now have solar energy and tesla to rid the world 🌎 of these terrible technologies

A blast to the sixties, the first atomic reactor. Good times and really enjoyed. Quick visit to see some cool historic stuff.

This is a neat place. I will preface this with this: I enjoyed this because I understand at a high level what this facility does. That being said, my kids would have been bored bored bored bored here. When we were here there were only 2 people total working here (that I was aware of/that I saw). The guided tours seemed to be pretty sporadic and happened when guests were there. We ended up going on a self guided tour because the next tour was some 30+ minutes away. Being out in the middle of no where we didn’t really want to wait. The facility was clean and the hand writing on the chalk boards was impeccable. The demos were pretty neat to look at. They have done a good job preserving the facility and keeping a lot of the equipment intact and really cool to be able to get that close to a nuclear reactor. Overall, it was a good one time visit. I don’t think I would ever need to return for a second visit, but if you like history and are nearby it would be something neat to stop by.

Yellowstone Bear World

Wildlife park

Zoos & Aquariums

Drive-thru wildlife tours, a petting zoo with public feeding times & kids’ rides open April-October.

Slide 1 of 4

Even though Bear World is in Rexburg, Idaho, it made the list because many people drive by it on their way to West Yellowstone. Bear World gives you a chance to see bears in a way different than anywhere else. You drive through and see free roaming bison, wolves, black bears, grizzlies, and elk.

It's a neat place, most of the bears here are former actor/performance animals, or descendants of said bears, so they cannot be in the wild. Place offers a few different ways to see them as well. (Drive thru the park in your own vehicle, or use their truck to toss them food, as well as a small petting zoo for the kids.)

Wow! We went during Cubpalooza last week. The kids loved it and want to go back again. They have amusement rides that are included with admission. The bears were very active and the cubs were 100% adorable.

At first glance, the price seems really steep being $24 an adult but once you realize just how many animals are actually offered either to see (bison, elk, bears, moose etc.) or to pet at the petting zoo (deer, goats, pigs etc.) I soon understood why! This place was so cool driving in with all of the big bears, elk and bison! Not to mention the adorable petting zoo and amusement park which is also built into the admission price! Also, their fudge in the giftshop? Delicious!! Absolutely worth a visit at least once! My family had a wonderful trip and we will be back! Thanks guys! Very impressed.

So nice!!! Glad we stopped by on this beautiful spot on their city while on our way to Yellowstone..it was gloomy tho and the pic taken late Sept 2021, lots of restaurant and hotel around nice bike path too..

Enjoyed the river walk immensely. Saw both at night and in the morning. Trails are well maintained with plenty of seating and unique benches.

The green belt is wonderful. It’s very peaceful. I only wish it were longer and that people would do a better job cleaning up after their dogs.

Museum of Idaho

Established in 2003, this museum features exhibits on science & regional history, plus archives.

Slide 1 of 3

Went for the last day of the BodyWorlds: Animal Inside Out exhibit. It was way cool. After going through that exhibit, my boyfriend and I walked through the rest of the museum. I enjoyed it. I would definitely go back for future exhibits.

What a true treat stopping at this museum was. I learned so much about the state of Idaho, from the native American Indian tribes to the farming history to the types of gems that can be found in the state, etc. The stuffed animals on display were fascinating, as were the storefront displays with information about certain items. I could tell that whoever contributed to putting the displays together cared a great deal about what he/she was doing. The native American Indian artifacts were incredible! I enjoyed seeing so much handcrafted materials as well as the artifacts of people who lived on the homesteads in the state in the past. Learning about some of the plants that grow in the area peaked my interest, and there was a great description of the sagebrush that I came across. Everything was intriguing at the Museum of Idaho. It was a trip well worth it, in my opinion and I would go back again. There's quite a bit to see.

Well what is to say about this museum, it does change so thus review can be a hard one! Currently on 10-18-2021 the exhibit is "Animals Inside out" and I must say it was super cool! I've never had a bad experience or tour of what's been in the museum ever so, I suggest the museum to anyone visiting, passing through, looking to kill time, or even just the joy of museums! They have a great section (large) about Idaho falls, filled with so much information, and the staff is always friendly.

Idaho Potato Museum & Potato Station Cafe

Exhibits on the history & cultivation of potatoes in a former train depot with a cafe & gift shop.

Slide 1 of 3

Excellent experience! Everything you want to know about Idaho potatoes is in this museum! Definitely worth the stop! #idahopotaotes

Very interesting. Well maintained and super clean. Who knew there was so much to learn about the humble potato. Even the building itself is interesting Great value!

We had an excellent visit except when leaving the girl closing the museum was rude. As we were leaving the museum (through the gift shop). She told us ‘I’m locking up now’. It was uncomfortable - I tried to explain that we weren’t trying to enter the museum and that we were leaving after viewing. There’s also a cafe here. I ordered some yummy fries and my partner ordered chili fries. If it weren’t for the rude service when we were exiting I would definitely recommend visiting this place if you have an hour so spare. Also if you’re from out of state you get a free instant potato packet. If you have AAA or military ID they offer a small discount on admission.

Museum of Clean

Modern museum showcasing exhibits on historic cleaning techniques & tools, with brooms, tubs & more.

Slide 1 of 3

The Museum of Clean is a really fun experience. The displays are clever and informative, with just enough “potty humor” to please even the most conservative of crowds. There are lots of interactive displays that leave you wondering just how anyone managed to have a clean house before a fusion vacuum and modern plumbing. The museum imparts the idea of being clean, not just how to clean. Definitely a worthwhile visit if you have a free afternoon.

Most highly recommend this delightful, unique museum! You will not regret it! They also have things for children. I loved all the history and creativity found there. Thanks Don for your vision to a truly enjoyable place. I took over 100 pictures, but here are some. I loved the sculptures, art gallery, clean orchestra, the vacuum floor, etc!

May not have been something I was terribly interested in, but once I stepped inside this huge museum, the passion of the owner, Don Aslett was quite apparent. He has dedicated his life to building a world wide cleaning Co, writing books, and collecting thousands of rare cleaning items such as vacuums, brooms, mops, etc. and placing them on display. The staff was very friendly and as a Harvest Host guest, we are thankful for the night's stay.

Lava Hot Springs Foundation World Famous Hot Springs

Natural hot springs offering several outdoor pools with different temperature levels, plus a shop.

Slide 1 of 3

This place was very wonderful. The nice thing is they have pools with different temperature for 105 to 112 degrees F. The have indoor and outdoor lockers the indoor lockers are smaller than the outdoor ones The out door locker can fit a large gym bag the cost of the large locker is 1$ and the indoor locker is 50 cents.

I went to this place 2 times in the last week on our family road trip. I found it very clean and well maintained with the amount of people that go through there. It has a ton of visitors each day I was there. We did bring 3 of our children and they all liked it as well. There are strict rules about splashing and actual swimming etc. Which I find nice for the atmosphere it's trying to breed. Would definitely suggest going there I'd you are able to.

It's my first time going to a hot spring and I was surprised at how fun it was. The hotest pool was at 115 degrees, while the coolest one was at 105, it was nice with the weather being so cold to have the two temperature s balance out.

Bodies of Water

Known for its blue waters, this park with beaches is popular for boating, fishing & water sports.

Slide 1 of 3

A nice beautiful lake in the vicinity of beautiful nature. Has ample amount of parking. 25$ entry fee for non Idaho residents. Has benches, stone to sit. Since the background is picturesque, you can click photos here and hangout for a bit. Also it has boating facility, so you can rent a boat and bring yours. A nice place to hangout in scenic road from Salt lake city to Jackson.

Loved the area but absolutely nothing was open. I couldn't find anywhere to park so we had to pay $20 to Park at the Marina. Really beautiful place. The water is so clear you can see the fish.

My friends and I had a phenomenal time in the State Park Restroom showers!! They were accommodated with a bench and hangers for our towels and other shower toiletry! If you are desiring a convenient and refreshing cleansing experience stop on BY!!! Devry was able to wash in every crevice! Be careful it gets a little slippery ;)

Slide 1 of 3

At the gift house and visitor center everyone was so friendly. There was a 20 min video about the two rails coming together. There was so much fun stuff for all ages. If your going to fallow the rail track road trail make sure you have a couple of days to see everything

We took our two year old son and let him do the Junior Ranger program. A lot of fun! If interested just ask the ranger at the visitor center and they will help you out. The ranger was awesome and the visitor center is small and nice. A lot of interesting history to learn out here. Doing the trip in the winter really shortens the list of things to do here, but there is no crowd midday Friday! (Not sure there is too much of a crowd any day…) Definitely worth the trip! Don’t forget to check out the engine house!

We really enjoyed this! Really awesome ranger too! We loved her passion for the area and her knowledge made this particular experience even better

Slide 1 of 3

Aggies! A beautiful campus tucked up in the mountains. There are trees everywhere and open fields to play sports or lounge around on a nice warm day. There are a lot of events going on campus wide to keep you busy. What is really great is how the entire community rallies around the university. It is a very unique dynamic and very very fun!

I'm just about to graduate with a Master's Degree and have loved my entire experience here. Awesome new buildings, cool old buildings, great professors, and great students who make for great campus life. And you can't leave out the superb outdoor recreation available all around. The PE classes are a blast! To anybody coming to USU I highly suggest taking up rock climbing, mountain biking, trail running, and skiing/snowboarding. There's even a new ski resort opening up that is only 19 minutes away. They just opened up the ARC (Aggie Recreation Center) and my wife and I love the rock climbing and everything else that is available in there. Complete party, great place to learn to become a learner, fun professors, useful clubs and student organizations, all around great place to get your degree or degrees.

Going to school here is great! There is tons to do really close to campus. The town is small, but very diverse classes are not too big when getting into your major. Online program is wonderful!

Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge

Nature & Wildlife Areas

This bird refuge & marsh area offers a 12-mile auto tour, fishing, hunting & wildlife viewing.

Slide 1 of 3

February visit. Binoculars mandatory. See those black dots on the far ice? They are the bald eagles that you won't see without binoculars. And you will see a lot at certain times. If you are fortunate you will catch one in flight soaring high above. On the way to the loop you may see one on a post so look around as you drive there. We saw two single ones, two groups of two, one group of five that would have made a great photo, many farther away. Thanks to the employee, new to Utah from KY, we changed our mind to take the drive to where bald eagles had been seen. We were able to see 20-30 total -- a sight we'd never enjoyed before and almost missed -- so we can't express how grateful we are to her!

Great place to see Bald Eagles and Herons. The trip from Salt Lake City is a little long, but with coffee and good company you are there it seems in no time. If you go during the winter months, beware! The road around the refuge us a mix of CLAY, GRAVEL, DIRT AND SAND. Your car/SUV will get extremely dirty. Do not wait days to wash it. It won't cone of once it's solid. Use a high powered sprayer to get into every nook and cranny of your cars underside, especially the wheelhousing. I waited a week and it took 2 hours and 30 dollars to get my Tahoe looking new again.

Excellent place, huge collection of birds , all viewable from a driving tour. Recon on 2-3 hours to drive the full circuit.

Snowbasin Resort

2002 Winter Olympics site offering classic ski-resort activities & year-round events since 1936.

Slide 1 of 3

Pretty sweet spot. We lucked out and had some of the only fresh powder they’ve seen in a few weeks. So our experience was pretty good. Visibility was a little tough at the time towards the top. I think most runs are ski dominate. But Main Street with minimal traffic was a snowboarders dream. Not remotely a pro, or heavily experienced. But the run was well managed and wide open. Clocked us doing about 40 down through there. Wait times were never longer than maybe 5 minutes, even during the busiest part of the day on a Saturday after a snow dump on Thursday night. Not the largest park. But well managed, quality staff and well groomed runs. Highly recommend if you can get in here with fresh powder.

If you want great skiing, Snowbasin is where you should go! They take great care of their runs by grooming them regularly. Middle Bowl lift was replaced in the 2021 off season. It’s a 5 minute ride to the top! I had so much fun my last couple of visits! I look forward to going again soon.

Superb...Fantastic experience. Very Organized. They had all kinds of Ski Slopes. Beginners, Intermediate and Advanced. 9000 feet high mountain slopes. Ski lifts or closed Gondolas to carry you up the mountain. The Resort is very popular amongst the locals. They have trained instructors. Huge gift shops with lot of items. Huge eatery, Seperate building for rentals. We took a whole day package deal along with Ski lessons and was at a good price. It is about 1 hour drive from Salt Lake City. Ample parking. Lot of warm places to sit with family and enjoy lunch. We loved it as family and would highly recommend the same to other families / Adults.

Hill Aerospace Museum

Free attraction displaying planes, missiles & aerospace gear, plus exhibits on Air Force history.

Slide 1 of 3

What a wonderful way to honor our history! Parking and entrance is free! Clean facilities. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. Visiting hours are only until 4:00 pm. They also have a gift shop inside. It was not crowded. You just have to deal with the mask Nazis.

This place is incredible! You only get a little glimpse of it from the freeway, but the second you enter, you realize this place is way cooler than you expected! First, they have an SR-71 inside this place! The first stealth plane that flew at 80,000 and could take photographs while flying at mach 3! SUPER COOL!! Next, they have literally hundreds of things to look at including F-16s, an A-10, missiles, bombs, literally, more than 50 full size fighter jets, airplanes, helicopters, and more. You could spend hours here and it only feels like minutes! Plus, they are continuing to develop "Experiences" that let you go inside airplanes, missile silos (replace scaled down) and more. It's just amazing what they have here.

Great place to take your boys to. The Veterans working there are so sweet and eager to share. 1-2 hours to walk through it all. Cute gift shop. Masks were required.

Antelope Island

Island

Nature & Parks

State Parks

Biggest island in the Great Salt Lake, with a state park for hiking & wildlife like bison.

Slide 1 of 7

If you’d rather see the Great Salt Lake that gives the city its name, it’s a 60-mile drive north to beach-rimmed Antelope Island State Park. The lake is far saltier than the sea, which makes floating in it easy, but you’ll probably have to share the water with rather pungent-smelling brine shrimp. More pleasant is a walk through its peaceful wilderness, home to free-roaming bison (the spectacular roundup is in late October), mule deer, antelope and bighorn sheep, as well as a profusion of migratory birds. Time permitting, linger to see the mountains rendered into silhouette as the sky reddens.

White-sand beaches, birds and buffalo are what attract people to the pretty, 15-mile-long Antelope Island State Park. That’s right, the largest island in the Great Salt Lake is home to a 600-strong herd of American bison (buffalo). The November roundup, for veterinary examination, is a thrilling wildlife spectacle. Hundreds of thousands of migratory birds stop to feast on tiny brine shrimp along the Great Salt Lake’s shore en route to distant lands during fall and spring migrations.

If you’ve landed in Salt Lake City in the morning and have a full day to get to Moab, consider a stop at Antelope Island State Park. You’ll get to see the Great Salt Lake and have a chance to spot wildlife like bison roaming freely.

Head to Antelope Island to see wild bison and, well, antelope. It’s a unique experience. There’s an old ranch you can tour, and if you like hiking, again, there are ample opportunities. Be sure to take a can of Off!

Wow! The views are stunning! Wildlife too -antelopes and bison and abundant bird life! It’s spectacular to see the lake and also the mountains. The beach is vast and can be walked also loads of hiking trails and even a restaurant. Camping in tents and RV’s is also available. Would be a great place for riding bikes. Bring Binoculars to see the diverse birds!

We loved it and took photos of bison with a 800mm lens. Its important to remember to give wildlife their space and watch them from a safe distance.

So many hiking trails, easy and hard. Not too busy, plenty of places to park. Beautiful views.

Lagoon Amusement Park

Amusement park

Water & Amusement Parks

Theme Parks

Seasonal theme park/water park offering thrill rides & live shows, plus a pioneer village & camping.

Slide 1 of 3

It was very fun. Lines were short but took longer due to most rides (particularly roller coasters) having only one car going. We had done the South end's coasters first, leading up in intensity to eventually do Cannibal and the more intense rides at the North end of the park. There were visual staffing shortages and a lot of teenage employees. Food prices were okay for an amusement park, ranging from 5 to about 15 dollars. It does become very crowded in the Midway area with people stopping to stand in the middle of the walkway and you were always bumping into other people. Rides were great and entertaining with different levels of thrill ranging from kid rides to very intense rides. Since this is more of a family park, avoiding Kiddieland is very good, avoiding longer lines and a lot of little children. Overall a very great experience, and since I have a season passport I get to go almost every weekend.

They've really updated the kids area and rides and is just as fun as when I was a kid. Love that they let moms work for season passes as well! Makes the rides go more quickly and smooth too.

I had a lot of fun here! I arrived around 1 and stayed until 9 and still rode most of the coasters. The park wasn't too crowded until the evening time. The rides were thrilling and exciting. Word of warning: this is an amusement park, not a theme park. The theming is not the best here, because this park is meant for exciting thrill rides. Prices were okay, but still a bit on the expensive side. Overall, I enjoyed my experience here and would come here again for just a select few rides. Especially to ride Cannibal a couple more times! If you're a thrill-seaker, this is a must-ride! The initial 105 degree drop produces an unreal feeling I had never felt up to the point of this ride.

Is the drive from Yellowstone to Glacier National Park Scenic?

On this park-to-park trip, you'll stick mainly to interstates and U.S. highways, but in Montana, even the freeways are scenic. You'll also travel along some of this corridor's coolest offerings—like the richest hill on earth in Butte and Lewis and Clark Caverns in Whitehall.

Is the drive from Salt Lake City to Yellowstone pretty?

There is a lot to see as you drive from Salt Lake City to Yellowstone. I would not say the drive is especially pretty after leaving the beautiful Salt Lake Valley mountains until you reach about Idaho Falls if you are traveling on I-15.

Can you do Yellowstone and Glacier in one trip?

You could definitely complete the drive from Yellowstone National Park to Glacier National Park in 6 to 7 hours in one day without stops. However, we recommend building a scenic itinerary so you can make some of these incredible stops along the way of this Montana road trip.

Should I go to Yellowstone and Glacier National Park?

Glacier is much more rugged than Yellowstone. Hiking will demand much more physical ability and skill. The whole park is much higher than Yellowstone, so animals and plant life will be quite a bit different than what you find in Yellowstone. That is, if you want to see bison, you'd better head for Yellowstone.
