To determine the size of the actual TV, you need to use a little high school math. Ready to test your Pythagorean Theorem skills? Manufacturers (like Samsung) build sets using a 16:9 (or 16:10) ratio, which means if you have a 55-inch diagonal, you would have a width and height that’s closer to 48 inches wide and 27 inches tall.

Where should you put your 55-inch TV for the best viewing?

Knowing the dimensions of your TV is just part of the story. You also need to consider the size of the space where it will be placed. For optimal viewing, it’s best to sit back about three times the height of the screen for HD and 1.5 times for 4K Ultra HD.
