We can't wait to pack our bathing suits and head back to the picturesque New England town of Cousins Beach for Season 2 of The Summer I Turned Pretty. Prime Video's young adult romance series is based on the books of the same name by Jenny Han, who also wrote the source novels for our favorite Netflix movie trilogy, To All the Boys I've Loved Before, so it's no wonder the Amazon show stole our hearts over the summer. (Han also created the series.) While the cast is definitely Gen Z, viewers of all ages are hooked thanks to the pretty coastal setting, the quality soundtrack (hello T-Swift), and the excitement of first love.

Season 1 followed the first book in the coming-of-age trilogy, documenting 16-year-old Belly Conklin's (Lola Tung) summer vacation and her love triangle with brothers and walking Abercrombie and Fitch models Conrad (Christopher Briney) and Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno). Meanwhile, the boys' mother Susannah (Rachel Blanchard) revealed she has breast cancer and agreed to participate in a cancer trial to hopefully find a cure — a deviation from the book's storyline. While the series uses the first book as inspiration, Amazon Studios did take some other liberties including, adding Jeremiah's bisexualily and having Belly participate in the debutante ball. With that in mind, we can only assume Season 2 will follow the second book in the series, It's Not Summer Without You, and hope that Amazon will pick The Summer I Turned Pretty up for a third season to round out the trilogy with We'll Always Have Summer. Fingers crossed!

Prime Video already greenlit The Summer I Turned Pretty for a second season weeks before the first one premiered on the streaming service, and we're sure glad they did. The Belly+Conrad+Jeremiah love triangle is possibly the greatest budding romance of our time (well, ok, at least of summer 2022), and it deserves to be followed through, regardless of whether you're Team Conrad or Team Jeremiah (or even team Cam Cameron).

The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 2 Release Date

Prime Video has yet to announce a release date for Season 2. Production on Season 2 started in July 2022— check Jenny Han's Instagram page for photographic evidence — so we're hoping that means a 2023 release (possibly in June like Season 1?). The first season had seven episodes, so Season 2 will likely follow that pattern.

The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 2 Plot

Major possible spoiler alert for Season 2: In the second book of Jenny Han's trilogy, Susannah dies from breast cancer, which naturally has a deep affect on her sons. Amid the grief, Conrad runs away from home and Belly and Jeremiah head out on a road trip to find him. Through it all, Belly and Jeremiah get closer and the love triangle deepens. We don't know how closely the TV adaptation will follow that storyline. We'll have to wait and see in Season 2.

The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 2 Cast

Most of the summer vacation house crew will be returning in Season 2, including the Conklins — Belly (Tung), her mother Laurel (Jackie Chung), and brother Steven (Sean Kaufman) — as well as Conrad (Briney) and Jeremiah (Casalegno). Belly's friends Taylor (Rain Spencer) and Cam (David Iacono) are also set to return.

On Aug. 31, Amazon announced two new cast members: Kyra Sedgwick and Elsie Fisher will be joining Season 2 in recurring roles.

After the breakout success of the “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” trilogy, author Jenny Han’s other best-selling YA trilogy is heading to Amazon Prime Video this June.

“The Summer I Turned Pretty,” a new teen drama series based on Han’s novel of the same name, will premiere on Prime Video June 17, it announced Thursday. The news comes days following the news that Han has inked an exclusive development deal with the streamer.

The series stars Lola Tung as Isabel “Belly” Conklin, an ordinary teenage girl who spends the summer in Cousin’s Beach with her mother Laurel (Jackie Chung) and older brother Steven (Sean Kaufman). During her vacation, she reunites with her childhood friend Conrad (Christopher Briney), only to become tangled up in a love triangle between him and his brother Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno). In addition to following the lives of the teenagers, the show also heavily focuses on her relationship with her mother Laurel, who navigates her friendship with Conrad and Jeremiah’s mother Susannah (Rachel Blanchard). Alfredo Narciso, Minnie Mills, Colin Ferguson and Tom Everett Scott round out the main cast of the show.

Han will serve as showrunner of the series with Gabrielle Stanton. The two executive produce with Karen Rosenfelt, Hope Hartman, Mads Hansen and Nne Ebong for Wiip Productions. The series is a co-production of Amazon Studios and Wiip.

Former Destiny’s Child member LeToya Luckett is getting her own digital series, titled “Leave it to LeToya,” debuting on May 24. Produced by Kin, the show will debut across the company’s channels on YouTube, Facebook and Instagram, giving an inside look to the life of the Grammy winner. Bloomberg Media has named Kyle Kramer the new programming director of Bloomberg QuickTake, its video platform. In his position, Kramer will run QuickTake’s programming strategy on digital, social and streaming channels, in addition to expanding production abilities in all departments to assist QuickTake shows and working with talent. Kramer previously built the Vox Media video studio from the group up, and worked in TV development, feature film production, advertising and editorial video at a number of brands.

Netflix dropped the trailer for “The Pentaverate,” Mike Myers’ new show that stars the actor in eight separate roles. Netflix also announced that Rob Lowe and Maria Menounous will be joining the cast. Additional cast members include Ken Jeong, Keegan-Michael Key, Debi Mazar, Richard McCabe, Jennifer Saunders and Lydia West. The comedy is about a secretive five-man secret society in which a Canadian journalist finds himself wrapped up on a global mission to understands its secrets. “The Pentaverate” is narrated by Jeremy Irons. Myers is the show’s creator, Tim Kirkby is the director, and both of them executive produce alongside John Lyons, Tony Hernandez and Lilly Burns for Jax Media, as well as Jason Weinberg. The show premieres on May 5 on Netflix.

LATE NIGHT

Christina Ricci, Diplo and Miguel will appear on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” this Thursday, while Andrew Garfield and Mary Louise Parker will guest on “Late Night With Seth Meyers.” “The Late Late Show With James Corden” will feature Molly Shannon, Josh Groban and Giveon.
