Reviewed in the United States on July 2, 2022 I'm a bit of a Japan nerd, and I've been interested in LGBtQ+ issues in Japan for a few years now. Historically, Japan has accepted homosexuality (in some cases, even celebrated it), and the orientation was never illegal in the country, except for a short, seven year period in the 1870s, I believe. But today's Japan is rather conservative, and while there is no outright hatred or calling it a "sin", members of the LGBTQ+ community face discrimination, as this book demonstrates (honestly, some of the people in here made me angry. Some also struck me as a bit dumb). Blunt and honest, this book provides us with glimpses into the author's life. I wish he had shared some historical facts, but I know he's trying to pave the way for the future.
