What happens after a 21 day fast?

It all started when...

The Suggested Fast: The Daniel Fast

16 And when you fast, don’t make it obvious, as the hypocrites do, for they try to look miserable and disheveled so people will admire them for their fasting. I tell you the truth, that is the only reward they will ever get. 17 But when you fast, comb your hair and wash your face. 18 Then no one will notice that you are fasting, except your Father, who knows what you are doing in private. And your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.

Matthew 6:16-18 (NLT)

Several types of fasts exist. If you choose to follow another type of fast during this 21-day period, it’s perfectly acceptable. The Daniel Fast is suggested because it is a biblically based partial fast that almost anyone can participate in. Susan Gregory is a recognized contemporary champion of The Daniel Fast. The following description of The Daniel Fast is excerpted from her website:

The Daniel Fast is a method of fasting used by hundreds of thousands of Christians throughout the world. The fast is based on the fasting experiences of the prophet Daniel along with standard Jewish fasting principles.

The Daniel Fast is a partial fast, meaning that some foods are eaten and others are restricted. The fast is typically followed for 21 consecutive days and is like a vegan eating plan with more restrictions and the only beverage on the fast is water.

First and foremost, the fast is a spiritual discipline where followers of Jesus Christ can draw nearer to God and focus more of their attention on Him and His ways. In today’s busy and distracting culture, entering a fasting experience is like pushing the pause button on a hectic life and centering more on the rest that Jesus offers. This quieter and more focused time allows you to hear the still small voice of Holy Spirit as He reveals God’s truth and direction for your life.

Church congregations, study groups, and individuals often use the Daniel Fast as their method of fasting to begin the New Year, during Lent, or other times. This method of fasting opens this powerful discipline to many people who find it difficult to fast for multiple days on a water-only or liquid-only method of fasting (called a normal fast). The blessing is that you can continue to meet your home and work responsibilities while fasting and receiving from the Lord.

Fasting was designed by God, not to change Him, but rather to change us! Fasting doesn’t show God that you are good or deserving. Only Jesus Christ does that for us. However, fasting does bring us into an experience where our hearts are more open to what the Lord wants to show us for our individual lives.

While you will pay more attention to the foods you eat during the fast, only focusing on the food element of fasting keeps you from experiencing the richness that’s available to you. Focusing on the food element keeps you attending to your flesh rather than to your spirit that connects with the Spirit of God.

For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh,
but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.
Romans 8:5 ESV

You can still enjoy your meals; however, this is a time to be simple and more basic so that food and feeding the flesh is in balance with your spiritual experience of fasting.

Kathleen is here enjoying her second TheLifeCo detox experience. Her first time at The LifeCo Bodrum was February 2018, and she had such a great experience on the Green Juice program that she decided to fly all the way to Thailand to join us again, but this time she really pushed the boundaries and decided to do a 21 day water fast program! The good news is she is going to share the experience with us all…

So here we are sitting down looking at the beautiful lake in the middle of the centre surrounded by luscious green jungle-like trees and bright blue sky with not a cloud in sight!

What was your main motivation for 21 day water fast?

As I am cancer “thriver” and I wanted to really clean out my body and train my cells to continue being my wonderful cellular police force against any invaders or unnecessary things in my body.  I also wanted to reboot my mind for 21 days to understand the importance of a water diet so I can make it a part of my weekly and yearly health maintenance.

What were your desired results and 21 day water fast benefits?

After 21 day water fast at TheLifeCo Phuket, I expected to totally reboot my cellular cleaning system and get to know my “cells” again. I spoke with them every day, build a new relationship with my little army inside keeping me healthy.

How were your first 72 hours? What was the hardest part of fasting?

The first 3 days were the most difficult but after 3 days, I knew in the back of my mind I would do 21 day water fast but I didn’t put pressure, my next jump was 7 days, after that, it was easy to get to 10 days, then 14 days….

First 14 days my energy was a little low, but didn’t stop me from exercising every day and working full time.  The decision to jump from 14 days to 21 days took a bit of meditation, but I knew in my heart 21 was the number for me, so I went for it.

How were your energy levels, mood, emotional and mental state?

The energy level was great throughout…  after saunas, it went down a little bit, but in general, I felt really positive and good.  The mental state was amazing throughout.

What did you crave the most?

I craved the food at TheLifeCo 🙂  Probably because I saw it each day… Everything they server here just looked amazingly healthy and tasty.  I didn’t crave any crap food at all.

How did you cope with your hunger?

I didn’t feel hungry…  It was very odd.  Only on the last 3 days did my tummy starts to grumble a little bit…

How was your sleep quality?

Better than usual but I do have sleep issues in general. I was dreaming a lot and sleeping enough.

What activities did you participate in daily?

I did a few classes a day and saunas, and of course, worked full time. I went to the beach every morning and walked from 7:45 – 9:30 and then swam from 9:30 – 10:30… sometimes I went back to the beach and walked another 1.5 hours in the evening.

Did you do colon therapies?

Just Angel of Water (colema) most days and two colon hydrotherapy sessions per week.

Which therapies helped you the most during 21 day water fast?

Tenzin’s classes, saunas, yoga and meditation sessions!…

How much weight you have lost?

I haven’t weighed myself in 30 years, no idea! I’m guess I’ve lost 15 – 20 pounds during 21 day water fast.

How did you feel when you were breaking your fast?

Good, it’s day three and I feel back to normal energy… The first 2 days were a little slower, but I feel back.

What happens to the body when you fast for 21 days?

The results from 1422 subjects showed for the first time that Buchinger periodic fasting lasting from 4 to 21 days is safe and well tolerated. It led to enhancement of emotional and physical well-being and improvements in relevant cardiovascular and general risk factors, as well as subjective health complaints.

What should I eat after a 21 day fast?

After breaking the fast, you can drink mostly liquid foods like soup, vegetables, and bone broth and slowly start eating solid meals. You will feel the taste of the food while it is moving down in your digestive tract, and the food you eat will feel much better.

Can you survive a 21 day fast?

A healthy human being can go for weeks without food. Hence a 21-day fast should not be too difficult, if done carefully. Once you complete the fast, you will experience the great health benefits that accompany it. If you have a serious illness, consult your physician first, before you attempt fasting.

How long of a fast does it take to reset your body?

A 48-hour fast can serve as a reset for the body, allowing it to take a break from digestion to focus on other tasks. This break may allow it to focus energy elsewhere, such as on repairing the body.
