More Questions from This Game(Spoilers) The red rings unlock specific things in the Sonic Simulator at specific points. First, at 30 red rings, you'll gain the ability to use your Miis in the Sonic Simulator. This allows for a potential usage of up to 101 different characters in the Sonic Simulator (the Cyber Sonic plus 100 Miis from the Mii Plaza). At 50 red rings, you'll begin unlocking additional stages beyond the X-1 stages (where X is a number from 1 to 7). Stage 1-2 is unlocked at 50 red rings; stages get unlocked every 10 red rings thereafter. Unlocking is done in a horizontal-first fashion; simply put, you'll be unlocking the X-2 stages in incremental order until you have 110 red rings. Once you have 120 red rings, only then can you start unlocking X-3 stages, again starting from 1-3 and incrementing from there until you have 180 red rings and all of the Sonic Simulator stages. There is a point to doing the Sonic Simulator stages. Clear all three of them in a column (i.e. 1-X, where X is a number from 1 to 3), you get the Chaos Emerald that's above that colum. Do this with all 7 columns, all 21 stages all told, you'll have all 7 Chaos Emeralds, you'll gain access to Super Sonic. All this can feasibly done by facing only three bosses minimum (Tropical Resort, Sweet Mountain, Starlight Carnival). Boss stages have no red rings, and neither does any stage in Terminal Velocity, meaning you can have Super Sonic unlocked in time to face all three of the bosses on Planet Wisp, Aquarium Park, and Asteroid Coaster (as those three can be fought in any order).
