You can go to Lost Izalith which is past Quelaggs arena, New Londo which is down the elevator from Firelink, Dukes Archives from Anor Londo, or Catacombs from the graveyard by Firelink.

1-Darkroot Garden behind the magic door - You'll need this before New Londo, but you can also get behind it from another route.

2-The Duke's archives - This is an option, can be hard cause of the crystal guys

3-The Catacombs - Also an option, less damaging enemies, but more of them and can be a puzzle

4-Demon Ruins - Also an option, arguably the best place as far as trash enemies go, but the area is unfinished and the boss is garbage

5-New Londo Ruins - See Darkroot comment, good to go to for the very large ember to further upgrade your weapons, the boss you can't fight till after Darkroot.

6-DLC - I'd wait till you've done a couple of the other areas first

There is also the Painted World, which isn't a bad place to tackle at this point. The game kinda opens up at this point and there are no right answers.

The Ruins are full of Ghosts that can only be defeated with a cursed weapon or if you are cursed yourself. Using Transient Curses is the most practical way of navigating the Ruins, but you run the risk of having the item's effect run out while you're in the middle of a battle.

How do I get to New Londo Ruins?

Upper New Londo Ruins can be accessed immediately upon your arrival at the Firelink Shrine but it's advised to wait until you need to kill its boss before you venture in too far. From the Firelink bonfire, face the Crestfallen Warrior (or where he used to be) and look to the left for a staircase leading down.
