The trend, typically featuring a variation of the original image and the text "What Vibe Do I Give Off," began ironically on Facebook in April 2020 and spread to Twitter, Tumblr and Instagram.

In December 2020, Wojak variations of the format regained popularity following a viral Instagram post.

Origin

On April 21st, 2020, Facebook[2] user Caroline Vondergeist uploaded an image they made with labeled characters and numbers with the translated caption, "How do you define me?" which received over 2,100 likes and 39,000 shares in nine days. On April 23rd, Facebook[3] group Dank ADHD Memes reposted the image and added the caption, "I'm intrigued what vibes do I give off?" (shown below). The post gained over 4,000 reacts and 120,000 shares in a week.

Spread

On April 25th, 2020, Instagram[4] user illfuckanythinginajeanjacket uploaded an iteration of the meme using random characters and cursed images and the text "what vibe do I give off?" (shown below left). The post received over 2,600 likes in five days. Twitter user @lockpicker333[5] tweeted another variation with the caption, "what vibe do i give off?" which garnered over 60 likes in four days (shown below, right).

The trend was also popular on Tumblr. On April 29th, Tumblr[6] user bilbo-swwaggins posted another edit of the ""What Vibe Do I Give Off?" meme (shown below). StayHipp[1] published an article on the trend.

December 2020 Resurgence

On December 28th, 2020, Instagram[7] user cyberbunnybones posted a "What Vibe Do I Give Off" featuring five female Wojak variations including Mommy E-Thot, Daddy's Girl and Trad Girl. The post received over 16,600 likes in one week (shown below).

In late December 2020, the post found viral spread on Twitter and Instagram, with users posting[8][9] the image to inquire about their "vibe" from their followers. Following the viral spread, users on Twitter and Instagram both created more variations of the meme based on both Wojak and non-Wojak characters, as well as parodied the meme in various ways. For example, on December 29th, 2020, Twitter[10] user @BitchAssBowie posted a version of the meme that received over 160 retweets and 3,100 likes in one week (shown below, left). On the same day, Twitter[11] user @spacepatrolash posted an ironic Damn Daniel edit that received over 40 retweets and 250 likes (shown below, center).
