Season changes:

  • The opening credits have changed to clips from the show on a redesigned version of the globe logo; including clips from the Art Fleming and the Alex Trebek era. Then, the clips from the show zoom out to reveal the Jeopardy! logo, with a globe behind it, then; the Jeopardy! logo zooms forward, in which the "A" reveals the modified 2013-present set.
  • The contestant introductions, Daily Double, Video Daily Double, Double Jeopardy!, Final Jeopardy! graphics, and the split-screen credits gained a new look to match the season's title card.
  • The Jeopardy! theme music is given a new arrangement by Bleeding Fingers Music, now featuring a more modern cinematic sound.
  • Jimmy McGuire becomes the stage manager for Jeopardy!, succeeding John Lauderdale who retired at the end of Season 37.
  • This was originally going to be the first season with Mike Richards as the host, following the death of Alex Trebek early last season. However, on August 20, 2021, Richards announced that he resigned as the host of Jeopardy!.
  • On early episodes of this season, Mike Richards was still the executive producer of Jeopardy!, and its sister show Wheel of Fortune. He resigned as executive producer on August 31, 2021, with Michael Davies temporarily taking over the role on both shows.
  • During primetime specials, American actress Mayim Bialik is the hostess.
  • This is the first full season to be distributed by CBS Media Ventures.
  • The Alex Trebek dedication card was removed.
  • The closing theme resumes ending at the same time as the credits do.
  • Beginning with this season, Johnny no longer said "Promotional consideration provided by..." after the host signs off, so the host signs off and goes right to the closing credits. The promotional fee plugs were removed from the closing credits after the host signs off.
  • Starting with this season, the Final Jeopardy! category appeared on top of the clue, while contestants wrote down their responses, although the Final Jeopardy! category did not briefly appear on top of the clue.
  • Starting with this season, Sony Pictures Studios Stage 10 became The Alex Trebek Stage to honor his legacy.
  • Consumer Cellular replaced GEICO as the sponsor for the cash winning prizes.

  • Season 38 of Jeopardy! kicks off on September 13, 2021.
  • From September 13-17, 2021, executive producer Mike Richards served as host.
    • On the season premiere, which aired on September 13, 2021, Alex's wife Jean, son Matthew, and daughters Emily and Nicky dedicate the stage by honoring to rename The Alex Trebek Stage. This is the last time, Johnny says "This is Jeopardy!" at the beginning of the show.
    • Matt Amodio is the carryover champion from Season 37.
  • Starting with the September 14, 2021 episode, Johnny Gilbert extends his catchphrase to: "From The Alex Trebek Stage at Sony Pictures Studios, this is Jeopardy!".
  • Starting with the September 20, 2021 episode, Mayim Bialik and Ken Jennings will host the remaining episodes of 2021.[1]
    • From September 20-November 5, 2021, American actress, neuroscientist and primetime and spin-off hostess Mayim Bialik once again serves as interim hostess.
      • On the September 24, 2021 episode, Matt Amodio becomes the third contestant to break the $1,000,000 mark in regular gameplay after Ken Jennings and James Holzhauer.
      • On the October 1, 2021 episode, he surpasses James Holzhauer for the second-longest winning streak.
      • The October 8, 2021 episode marked the last episode to feature Mike Richards as executive producer and co-writer.
      • On the October 11, 2021 episode, Michael Davies joined the Jeopardy! staff as the interim executive producer, along with sister show Wheel of Fortune, replacing Mike Richards.
      • Also on the October 11, 2021 episode, Matt Amodio's winning streak came to an end when he was defeated by Jonathan Fisher.
        • Matt is a 38-day champion, accumulating $1,518,601 in cash winnings, plus $1,000 for finishing in third place.
      • From October 11-26, 2021, Jonathan Fisher becomes an 11-day champion, accumulating $246,100 in cash winnings.
        • On the October 22, 2021 episode, Jonathan Fisher surpassed Buzzy Cohen for the most games won after defeating a super-champion.
      • From October 27-November 2, 2021, Tyler Rhode becomes a 5-day champion, accumulating $105,901 in cash winnings.
    • From November 8-December 31, 2021, hosting duties will be split between Mayim Bialik and Ken Jennings.
      • From November 8-December 3, 2021, consulting producer Ken Jennings will serve as returning guest host.
      • From December 6-31, 2021, American actress, neuroscientist and primetime and spin-off hostess Mayim Bialik will once again serve as interim hostess.
  • Season 38 concludes on July 29, 2022.
