How to get a Meltan in Pokemon Go

Immediately Do This

Here are some things you should do at the start of the quest to make things easier later on.

• Begin saving candy to evolve a Grimer, Magnemite, Drowzee, and Scyther.
• Save two incubators for Stage 2 where you'll have to hatch three eggs.

Stage 1: Easy as Pie

• Spin 5 Pokéstops or Gyms
• Catch 10 Pokémon
• Transfer 5 Pokémon

I'm going to assume you don't need any tips or advice on how to complete these tasks. Pokéstops have a five-minute timer if you need to spin one over and over.

Total Rewards: 1,500 XP/1,000 Stardust/5 Pokeballs/1 Incubator

Stage 2: Easy Again

• Earn 2 candies walking with your buddy: You probably should worry more about how long it will take you to hatch three eggs, but if you do have three incubators and three 2 km (or 5 km) eggs waiting around, your best bet is to walk with a Pokémon that only takes 1 km to get a candy. If you still haven't completed the research for evolving a Magikarp, using a Magikarp as a buddy is a good option. Geodude and Aron are good options as well since Golem and Aggron are strong Pokémon. Caterpie, Weedle, and Pidgey are also great options as they can be evolved with 12 candies. These Pokémon are great if you're trying to grind experience and level up quickly.
• Make 10 Great Throws: This shouldn't be what holds you back, but if you're struggling, I'd find larger Pokémon (like a Wailmer) that are easy to hit. You can also do raids where you'll be able to throw a lot of Pokéballs.
• Hatch 3 Eggs: If you have spare incubators, now is a good time to use them. If you don't have any, try to land yourself a bunch of 2 km or 5 km eggs. You can't discard eggs or otherwise control what type of eggs you get. However, you can avoid 7 km eggs by not claiming friend gifts while you have open egg spaces.

Stage 3: Not Again!

• Catch a Ditto: For those of you who struggled to catch a Ditto in the Mew quest, don't worry, it's not as bad this time! There are three things to know about catching a Ditto. First, Dittos are not localized, so if someone else catches one, they can tell you where it is and you can catch the same one. Second, Dittos currently disguise themselves as one of the following: Pidgey, Ratatta, Zubat, Gastly, Mankey, Sentret, Yanma, Hoothoot, Zigzagoon, Whismur, and Gulpin. Lastly, and most importantly, there is a Ditto field research quest now! Keep an eye out for "Make an excellent throw." Remember, research quests rotate by Pokéstop daily. So if someone finds the Ditto research quest, anyone can also go and get the quest from that same Pokéstop for the rest of the day.
• Win 2 Gym battles: Easy enough, just find the closest enemy gym and attack it!
• Battle in 2 raids: Easy enough, just take note that pink eggs are level one or two raids while yellow eggs are level three or four raids. This way you can know in advance what you're able to take down by yourself. Level one or two raids are easy to solo, but level three raids can be quite challenging. It is worth noting that you don't actually have to do the raid, you just have to enter the lobby. However, this will consume your raid pass, so you may as well do the raid if you can. As long as you've claimed your free raid more than 24 hours ago, you are able to double up and do two raids in a day. This is because you can have one free raid pass and earn one free raid pass per day. So if you have a raid pass from a previous day, you can use it and then claim a new one. Stage 4: Not Too Difficult

• Catch 5 Steel-type Pokémon: Your best bet is to look in cities and urban environments. If you live in a more rural environment, you can use a Magnetic Lure Module to attract steel-type Pokémon.
• Catch 5 Electric-type Pokémon: The best way to do this task is to find an electric biome (you'll know what they are because they tend to be packed full of Magnemites, which are both steel and electric). Electric biomes tend to be in locations that are industrial in nature. They can be found near schools, railroad tracks, or even universities. It's not completely clear cut, but people do tend to report biomes online, so you may be able to find one close to you. Hatching will not count as progress for these tasks. However, there are other field research tasks that grant you relevant rewards. "Make 5 Nice Throws" will grant a Voltorb. "Use a Super Effective Charged Move in 7 Gym Battles" will grant an Electabuzz. • Earn 5 Candies walking with your buddy: Refer to the stage 3 section for reminders on good options for earning 5 candies walking with your buddy. I would remind you that if you are short on any candy required to complete evolution tasks, this could also be a good time to walk with the required Pokémon. However, I'd only do that if you're slow in completing the other two tasks as they can earn 5 candies.

Stage 5: A Little Grindy

• Evolve a Grimer: Grimers can hatch from a 5 km egg. An Alolan Grimer can hatch out of a 7 km egg.
• Catch 5 Slugma or Gulpin: There is not much of a trick to this one. Slugmas will spawn more often in sunny/clear weather. Gulpins will spawn more often in cloudy weather and in grassy environments.
• Make 20 Great Throws: Refer back to stage 2 if you're struggling.

Stage 6: A Little More Grindy

• Evolve a Magnemite: With any luck, you found an electric biome earlier and stocked up. This one isn't that tricky.
• Catch 5 Exeggcute: You get an Exeggcute from the "Hatch an Egg" field research, so keep an eye out for that. Otherwise, Exeggcute is a grass Pokémon and will be found more often during sunny or clear weather and in grass biomes. Furthermore, if you see an Alolan Exeggutor raid, do it! Because it's in the same family, it will still count.
• Battle in 10 raids: Just grind it out. Remember what I said in stage 3.

Stage 7: Probably Not Too Hard

• Evolve 1 Drowzee: Drowzees can hatch from 5 km eggs. They also tend to spawn in cities and more often at night.
• Catch 1 Cubone: This could be hard as hatching him won't count. However, it does count if you catch a Marowak as well, which may be found in raids as an Alolan Marowak. He will also spawn more often in sunny or clear weather.
• Evolve 1 Scyther: This could be tricky. You will need a Metal Coat and 50 candy. However, you should have received a Metal Coat from stage 6, so that shouldn't be a problem. If you accidentally used it already, remember that you get a guaranteed special item on your seventh Pokéstop streak reward. You can also get special items from friend gifts. If you don't have enough Scyther candy, stick to grass biomes to try to find some. There is a temporary field research task, "Evolve 2 Anorith," that will reward a Scyther. You can get multiples of this task so long as they come from different Pokéstops! You could get up to three Scythers (and thus 18 candy with Pinap Berries) off of two Anorith evolutions.

Stage 8: This One Is Challenging

• Catch 2 Omanyte or Kabuto: Your best chance to find these Pokémon is near water. These Pokémon are also rewards for level three raids.
• Catch 2 Lileep or Anorith: These Pokémon can be found with Rocket Grunts. There are various research quests that offer them as rewards.
• Catch an Aerodactyl: Aerodactyl is a reward in the special Let's Go event field research "Hatch two eggs." Outside of the special event accompanying the launch of Pokémon Let's Go and this set of research, these are very challenging to find. If you miss the launch window, I'd ask around your local groups for spawns. It is quite common for some of these Pokémon to have special spawn locations where they can be found easily.

Step 9: Done!

All done! You now have a Meltan. Congratulations! Remember that you can earn Meltans by transferring Pokémon to Pokémon Let's Go. This is the only legitimate way to accrue the 400 candies required to evolve Meltan into Melmetal.

How to Evolve Meltan Into Melmetal

Melmetal is the evolved form of Meltan. Pokémon Go is the only game where Meltan will evolve. As previously stated, this evolution will require 400 candies.

The best way to obtain this amount is by linking your game to Pokémon Let's Go or Pokémon Home. Once you do that, you can transfer your Pokémon to the Switch game or the app. Once you do that, you'll be given a Mystery Box in Pokémon Go. This box will summon Meltan for 30 minutes. You can catch multiple Pokémon to reach 400 candies. Be sure to use Pinap Berries to make the process go faster.
