Well first of all it is our sad duty to report that First Night Burlington is no more! After 35 years as the headline new years eve event in Vermont it ended for the last time back in 2018, with officials citing the lack of funding as the main reason behind the cancellation. The event was replaced by a new event, Highlight New Years Eve, which we hope to see back again for new year 2023.

This is obviously very disappointing, but not entirely surprising given the number of similar events that have folded in recent years, but do not despair, there will still be plenty going on in Burlington this new years eve, and we'll bring you our top selection of the best parties and celebrations right here.

First Night Events

Although there isn't a First Night Burlington any more, there are still similar events in other towns in Vermont you might like to check out - if you are looking for alternative First Night celebrations, then there will still be parties going ahead at First Night North in St Johnsbury, Montpelier Alive and Bristol Best Night.

Highlight New Years Eve

(TBC) And indeed, as we hoped, there is a First Night replacement for the First Night celebration, with the launch of the Highlight community party.

This new event is a collaboration between Signal Kitchen & Burlington City Arts and includes a whole series of community driven activities and events located around Burlington's Waterfront, South End, Old North End and the Downtown Corridor.

Highlight will include a hybrid celebration this year, there will be fireworks at Waterfront Park starting at 8pm and a full schedule of events with some virtual and in person. You will need to buy a ticket for this, starting at a very reasonable price $10.

New Years Eve Hotels

One annual new year party that is always very popular is the Hotel Vermont New Years Bash with a formal celebration in their Juniper Bar and Lounge, with dinner, dancing and champagne at midnight. This year the event will be a more scaled back affair with more details to follow.

There is also normally a New Years Eve Bash at the Hampton Inn & Vermont Event Center, with live entertainment and dinner that includes a carving station, assortment of entrees, desserts and a champagne toast at midnight, but nothing has been announced for 2022/23 as yet.

This event also ends with a family friendly firework display at 6 pm.

The event includes hors d’oeuvres, skiing, skating, buffet dinner, entertainment, live band “A house on fire”, DJs, champagne toast, party favors and midnight snack buffet. The tickets for this party sale out earlier, so try booking it on first chance. Hotel Vermont celebrates New Years Eve with heavy hors d’eouvres, dessert bars, champagne toast and cash bar.
