Pickup Ability

You can also find Shiny Stones by equipping the Pickup Ability to a Pokémon in your party. The Pokémon also can’t be currently holding an item.

The Pokémon games sometimes make players jump through hoops to evolve their pocket monsters. Be it through trading, leveling up in a certain area or with a specific move, or by using items, Pokémon has had some unique evolution mechanics across its 25 year lifespan. Since the first generation, evolution stones have been obligatory for any player wanting to complete their Pokédex, and Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are no exception.

CBR VIDEO OF THE DAY

One such stone introduced in the original Diamond and Pearl is required for players to evolve two specific Pokémon and complete the Sinnoh Pokédex. The Shiny Stone is necessary to evolve Roselia into Roserade and Togetic into Togekiss. Unfortunately, unlike the other stones, players won't be able to mine for more Shiny Stones in the Grand Underground. Here's how to find these elusive, valuable items.

The Pickup Method

Budew fighting a Pachirisu in Shining Pearl.

This is the only way to obtain additional Shiny Stones outside of the two hidden in specific locations, which do not respawn after being picked up. Players will need a Pokémon with the ability Pickup, which allows it to sometimes find items so long as the Pokémon isn't already holding something. To have any chance of finding a Shiny Stone, the Pokémon will need to be at least level 11, at which point there will be a 4% chance an item obtained through Pickup will be a Shiny Stone. Those odds rise to 5% at level 71, 9% at level 81 and finally reach 10% at level 91.

Any Pokémon with Pickup can find Shiny Stones, though Pachirisu is one of the best options, as it's easier to obtain than other options in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl like Aipom and Munchlax. Pachirisu can be found at the Valley Windworks, Route 205 or in the Grand Underground's Hideaways. However, Pickup is one of two abilities Pachirisu can have, so consider using a move like Worry Seed or an ability like Trace to identify the Pokémon's ability before catching it. To maximize the odds, consider traveling with six Pokémon that all have Pickup, and be sure to check whether or not the Pokémon is holding anything every now and then.

Iron Island

Player surfing to Canalave City in Shining Pearl.

One of the two static locations for Shiny Stones is on Iron Island. To get there, players need to have obtained the fifth gym badge and gained access to the Hidden Move Surf via the Pokétch. This will allow them to get to Canalave City. Once there, players should head to Canalave Dock and speak to the Sailor standing in front of a boat, as he'll take them to Iron Island.

Enter the cave at the top of the stairs and, once inside, take a right. Players must now make their way through the cave system to the elevator at the end of each section, battling trainers along the way. At the bottom of the first elevator, take a left. In the next room, head south to find the next elevator. At the bottom, head left once more. Use the elevator in the final room and circle clockwise around the path to pick up the Shiny Stone.

The Resort Area

This area is only accessible after completing Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl's main story. Once at the Resort Area, head north to Route 228. Players will enter a sandstorm. Walk past the first mudslide and, using the bicycle, ride up the second mudslide and across the rail to find the Shiny Stone.

Can you get shiny stones in the Grand underground BDSP?

The Shiny Stone is necessary to evolve Roselia into Roserade and Togetic into Togekiss. Unfortunately, unlike the other stones, players won't be able to mine for more Shiny Stones in the Grand Underground.

Is there any other way to get a shiny stone?

You can get a Shiny Stone on top of the Waterfall in Area six of the South Province. You need to climb the top of the mountain and reach the Waterfall to get the Shiny Stone. To get to the top first, you need to unlock the Climbing Ability of your Mount.

How rare are shiny stones BDSP?

The chances of finding one start at just 4%, but increase with the Pokemon's level. By the time the user hits level 91, the chances of a Pickup item being a Shiny Stone are a mighty 10%, making this a great way to farm them.
