The Duttons are continually fighting to maintain control over the ranch. They deal with thorny political machinations, battle greedy land developers and manage tensions with the local indigenous tribes. Season 4 ended with John seeking the governorship, Beth gathering blackmail material on Jamie and Kayce facing an uncertain future.
