Hogwarts doesn't hire staff who have no educational value to offer its students, as evidenced by Sprout's nuanced understanding of Transfiguration, Charms, and Potions. Professor Sprout assists Minerva McGonagall in defeating Snape, effectively forcing him to abandon the castle. All things said and done, she would much rather spend her time working in greenhouses than on the battlefield.

Given his parents' noble sacrifice during the First Wizarding War, Neville Longbottom has a weighty legacy to maintain. He exhibits minimal signs of magic while growing up, explaining why his great-uncle Algie tries to "force some magic out of him" by throwing him into piers. Professor McGonagall encourages Neville to believe in himself, stating that "there’s nothing wrong with [his] work except lack of confidence."

Professor Neville Longbottom eventually succeeds McGonagall as Head of Gryffindor House.

4/6 Filius Flitwick Remains A Formidable Duellist Well Into His Twilight Years

Professor Filius Flitwick has been called "the best and most knowledgeable Charms master alive in the world today." Despite facing bigotry and prejudice for his part-goblin status, Flitwick effortlessly disproves his detractors by becoming Head of Ravenclaw. He offhandedly mentions that he "was once a Duelling Champion," and age hasn't dimmed his skills in the slightest. Flitwick is the very definition of Ravenclaw House — whip-smart, wise, and formidable in a fight.

The Charms professor ultimately defeats the Death Eater Antonin Dolohov, thereby avenging Remus Lupin and Alastor Moody. Flitwick compensates for his diminutive size by casting monumental spells like Protego Horribilis, singlehandedly barricading Hogwarts against Voldemort's encroaching army. Professor Flitwick survives the Second Wizarding War and continues teaching students for a long time.

Albus Dumbledore coerces Horace Slughorn into returning to Hogwarts, where he used to be Head of Slytherin House until 1981. Slughorn turns out to be an affably pompous, and occasionally overbearing, Potions professor, but there's no question about his magical prowess. McGonagall has probably forgotten more about magic than most people could ever dream of knowing.
