drives you mad... Thunder only happens when it's raining Oh, thunder only happens when it's raining Thanks to Summer McPherson, Resha, Naomy for correcting these lyrics. Writer(s): Stephanie Nicks Stevie Nicks wrote this song in 1976 in about 10 minutes. The rest of the band didn't like it when she first played it to them with Christine McVie describing the song as having "just three chords and one note in the left hand" and "boring". They changed their mind after Lindsey Buckingham "fashioned three sections out of identical chords, making each section sound completely different", but still being one song. The line "Players only love you when they're playing" is about Lindsey Buckingham. Stevie Nicks recalled to The Daily Mail in October 2009, "I walked in and handed a cassette of the song to Lindsey. ...Even though he was mad with me at the time, Lindsey played it and then looked up at me and smiled. What was going on between us was sad. We were couples who couldn't make it through. But, as musicians, we still respected each other - and we got some brilliant songs out of it." "Dreams" was released as the second single from the album in the United States and as the third single in the United Kingdom. The song reached the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the USA becoming the band's only number-one single there. Lindsey Buckingham explained to Blender magazine, "We had to go through this elaborate exercise of denial keeping our personal feelings in one corner of the room while trying to be professional in the other." Every member of the band was going through relationship problems during the recording of the album. The Corrs made a very successful cover version of this song for the album "Legacy: A Tribute to Fleetwood Mac's Rumours" (1998). Mick Fleetwood, who is a fan of The Corrs, had asked them to record it. They performed "Dreams" with him in their concert at the Royal Albert Hall on the 17th of March, 1998. Stevie Nicks contributed her vocals to a remake of this song by DJ and house music duo Deep Dish for their album "George Is On" (2005).
album: "Rumours" (1977) album: "The Dance" (1997) What is the only No 1 hit for Fleetwood Mac?“Dreams” (Fleetwood Mac), No. 1, June 18, 1977. While Lindsey Buckingham wrote “Go Your Own Way” as a response to his and Nicks' brutal breakup in 1976, Nicks wrote the less literal “Dreams,” and gave the band their only Hot 100 No. 1 hit.
