Who said big changes start with small steps?

In today’s (western) society, no one has any patience. We all want instant gratification and instant success. Long hard work is not desirable and not many people want to do it. Yet, that’s the major reason to do it. To do what others are not willing to do. But, it all usually starts small. We all have to make the first step.

The reason why most people don’t start their own business or start their weight loss journey or anything that is worthwhile is that they often feel overwhelmed. They only see the end goal and not the small steps that are needed to get to it. You see a successful person and you think that they achieved their success overnight. While that might be true for a small number of people, it certainly isn’t true for the big majority of folks.

The fact that you clicked on this article tells me you want to be successful and achieve your goals, it also tells me that you know that hard work will be needed to achieve it and that you are willing to do the hard work – something that majority of people are not willing to do!

I’ll give you an example of how small steps lead to success in my own example – The Step Up Goals blog.

The first small step would be to think of an idea of what to write about. I pondered what my interests and my passions were. And I’ve realized that there was one overarching topic that I’d like to write about to great extent. How to help people achieve their goals and how to motivate them and maybe even show them how to quit the rat race.

The next step was – how to hell do I set up a website. I am tech-savvy, but for someone who is not, that can be a big factor to not even start blogging or anything online related. So that would be the next step, research how to set up your platform, whatever it is. If you’re starting a coffee shop, you need to research the laws that are vital for opening your business. It could take months, but you need to break it down into even smaller steps. Bit by bit to keep you moving forward.

So, the website was set up, I chose a nice looking theme, got a logo, made a hitlist of articles that I was going to write and started writing. Step by step I was inching towards my goal. Some of the steps took minutes, some took hours and some even took weeks.

I now have a beautiful blog full of helpful resources that answer questions people like you and me are googling for in droves on a daily basis.

Finding Resources

The Internet is a vast and beautiful place that has a wealth of information. At least that’s how I see it. Someone else might see it as a dark and dangerous place with loads of terrifying information.

The only problem is that there is too much information on any topic these days. Everything is now a science. People tend to overcomplicate things to a great extent and you can easily get lost while looking for knowledge. Who do you trust?

While there is a lot of free knowledge out there, the reality is that you can make a significant shortcut in your journey by finding a mentor or finding a well of information that you can trust. For me, that was Jim and Ricky. Sounds like a cartoon 🙂 but they are two great guys from Idaho that know what they’re talking about because they’ve been there. They created more than half a dozen successful blogs about various topics that were of interest to them and they showed me how to set up and execute a successful blog.

I discovered them on YouTube, but they also run an online school – Income School were they give you 60 small steps you need to do in order to have a successful blog with organic traffic from Google. With really minimal investment you could have a great side or indeed, full income and escape the 9-5 writing about things you’re passionate about and spend more time with your friends, family, and pets.

If you’re at all interested in escaping the rat race, be sure to check out their YouTube channel and their Income School.

What Will Your First Small Step Going To Be?

Thanks for reading. You will find beautiful and true “small steps quotes” just below this. Find inspiration in them and let them motivate you to start your own journey step by step. It only takes dedication and perseverance not to quit when the going gets tough. Remember your why – the reason that you are doing your thing.

Small improvements on a daily basis lead to much bigger improvements over time, according to the Kaizen principle.

Although it’s often applied to business processes, this principle can be applied to every area of your life.

Occasionally in life we can get so overwhelmed with all of the things we have to do in order to get to the future and reach our goals (whilst avoiding the present moment). Or maybe we have faulty thoughts or distortions playing in our mind, saying we are not “good enough” to be the person we would like to be.

One thing I know from my own life and the things I have completed (from being a professional athlete to going to university or learning yoga) is that we only ever have this moment and can take one step or moment at a time.

I wonder what life would be like if we enjoyed the journey more and remembered this? When we slow down, take time out to reflect to find out what is important to us. Then we can reconnect with our courage, follow those dreams and remember we can only ever take one step at a time

"A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step" is a common saying that originated from a Chinese proverb. The quotation is from Chapter 64 of the Dao De Jing ascribed to Laozi, although it is also erroneously ascribed to his contemporary Confucius.

Who said small steps in the right direction can turn out to be the biggest step of your life?

It's a quote from Naeem Callaway and here is what it said: Sometimes the smallest step in the right direction ends up being the biggest step of your life.
