Everything you always wanted to know about those people mentioned in the doctrine and covenants. What happened to them, where did they end up, when did they die, were they true to the faith or scoundrels to the end?

Very helpful in my study of the Doctrine and Covenants. There are places where I feel as if the story just drops off and ends too abruptly, leaving me saying, "But what happened then?" but I can deal with that and in general the length of each biography is good. It's hard to write about the people in Church history objectively, their lives are so far removed from what we have and experience today and there are places where I feel as if there are shadows of Black's personal feelings inching in. But again, not overly much. She does love the word "mobocracy" though and after the fifth or sixth time it popped up it kind of became a game to see how long it would be before it popped up again. But these are small criticisms for a good study aid and I would recommend it to anyone who isn't satisfied with breezing over the names in the sections.

Awesome Book for Early Church History!
This book is great when you want to find out what happened to the people who are mentioned in the Doctrine and Covenants. Each person has the basic information about them provided if it's known, and a brief history detailing where they came from, their involvement in the church and what happened to them, again, if it's known. I would recommend this to anyone; non-member, new-member, long-time member, and life-time member. It has truly given me a better appreciation of all the different people who helped form and move the church forward in this last dispensation.

I love this book. I have the hard copy version as well, and one on Gospelink, but neither of those is as portable as I was wanting. I love having it handy on my Kindle as I study the D&C, prepare or present lessons or just catch up on my church history.

The book is a compilation of years of study of every person mentioned in the Doctrine and Covenants. Whatever is known about an individual, birth, death, marriage, family, accomplishments, friend or foe, faithful or apostate. It's all here, concise, and accurate.

Anyone who has had the privilege of having Susan Easton Black as their instructor can appreciate the devotion she puts into her work.

I did not know that this book existed until my friend told me about. She gave it very high praise. I am teaching the Gospel Doctrine class and this will be a great help to get to know the people who are in the Doctrine and Covenants.

I would tell people if they asked where to get the book so that they could be more knowledgeable about the people associated with the Doctrine and Covenants.

Book is a great resource to learn about people who are mentioned in the Doctrine & Covenants. People are listed in alphabetical order in the book. At the beginning of their info the sections where they are mentioned are noted. It would be nice to have a cross referenced index with the sections listed in order & the people referenced to the sections as well. Overall this is a wonderful resource.

We've taken a number of church history trips, and of course the same names keep popping up, but in different contexts and settings. This book really helps tie together the various places where a particular person from church history shows up, helping the reader understand the story of that person's life, and their part in church history.

A useful background read and companion to the Doctrine and Covenants Book. Bringing to life the characters in this book. Enriched my understanding.

The Lord then revealed what he called “my preface to the book of my commandments” (D&C 1:6, emphasis added). Joseph sat down near a window and dictated the words slowly as Sidney Rigdon wrote them down.
